うみべの女の子 2 [Umibe no Onnanoko 2] by Inio Asano
"The tie in with side character friends is nice but they could've had more pop ins/personality before. So the theme of unrequited love and shallow relationships is going strong. That blog and those dreams of a girl by the shore never get addressed enough. It's never even clear what either is about. I don't see what could be so scary about the dreams, the inactive ways they're drawn and even once I have an inkling, I don't see how it fits being the title is about a girl, not a guy, on the shore.

A few yrs have passed since the beginning, which would be nice but the pace isn't even enough to feel as obvious w/ changes as Punpun did. As always, I like the backgrounds of the city, rain, and especially the beach and pool/picnic area. When we find out more about the blog, it feels like it was forgotten for too long to come off clever. More should have been done about the birthday.

I'm glad we see the girl stand up for herself even if it's at a snail's pace.... Is the hiatus implication that she knows they both have feelings and she'd rather someone die than have to face them? The time jumps are really annoying in this volume. The part w/ her dad comes out of nowhere because we never see her parents, let alone them fight, so that wasn't the big moment it coulda been.

The one revenge plot is well timed w/ the storm and angst and when we come to understand certain dynamics. Things are a bit more emotional than I expected despite all the half-ass problems. The splicing of tension with the funny school festival is cute. Towards the end the boy looks young again even though they're older, for a ch I assume that means this is a figment and what was set to happen since the beginning did. But then maybe not. It is a good role switching for everyone, and reflects how abrupt it all usually seems to girls when they realize their partner really is letting go.

The last ch is unexpected, disappointing a bit but realistic. Old habits die hard and a distraction is always welcome. I get the title and meaning at the end but it's a little cheesy and unfortunate everyone is still kinda bad."

A Girl on the Shore by Inio Asano
"The beginning is like what I wished Coin Locker Babies was: more feminine, a search along the shore for hidden treasures w/ a loved one, beautiful tragedy. The boy and girl look a li'l too similar so that can be confusing aside from telling where dialogue bubbles are infinitesimally pointing to. I see a tad of Punpun in the art, but the girls look like baby monkeys and the guys look just as childish, smelly on top of being wannabe players to dummies. Is that Seki?

Very pornographic for 11 y/os! The girl clearly doesn't want any of it, but keeps doing it like a replacement for cutting. Seems she has more mommy than daddy issues. They're both a-holes to each other but slowly become friends, the guy clearly more into her than he lets on. From afar, Koume's mom looks like a Punpun bird.

The girl on the phone looks like the mom young? I get she secretly likes the twerp and gets jealous but she acts so backwards... So, am I supposed to think the guy is gay or bi or maybe he brings up his bro so much cuz he was molested by him? I don't really feel bad for him over anything, he's such a user, just obviously insecure about it. The ending of vol. 1 is a good double twist though.

What a Wonderful World!, Vol. 1 by Inio Asano
"Meh. The girl is hyped up for being everything she doesn't wanna be. She wants to be more feminine and taken care of but everyone comes to her w/ their problems, thinking she has everything figured out. She reminds me of the tomboy from the Weekenders. There's just not too much going on. She should have one better friend or enemy. "
