★★★★ Addictive, Kinky, and Absolutely Unputdownable

Thank you to Raya Morris Edwards for the ARC of Deacon—I’m officially obsessed with this series. While Sovereign still holds the top spot in my heart, Deacon was a wild ride that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.

Set in the same dark, seductive world introduced on Amazon and the author’s site, Deacon follows a closed-off, antisocial MMC who is equal parts damaged and dominant. Yeah, some of his behavior could raise red flags in real life (hello, stalker alert), but let’s be real—this is fiction, and it works. The FMC totally balances him out, pulling the humanity from beneath all that broody armor. I loved watching her break through his walls.

Fair warning: this book is explicit as hell. If you’re not into heavy kink, this might push your limits. There’s a lot of BDSM (which, full disclosure, I still don’t fully get), and yes, the “Daddy kink is alive and thriving in these pages—personally, I find that part kinda gross, but hey, to each their own.

Trigger warnings include: obsessive behavior, mental health themes, violence, addition, abuse, death, and graphic sexual content.

Still, the emotional payoff and the intense chemistry between the leads kept me hooked. Raya’s writing pulls no punches, and I genuinely can’t get enough of this world she’s building. Bring on the next one. ]]>

5 Stars A Perfect Blend of Heart, Heat, and Suspense!

Beautiful Exile by Catherine Cowles is another standout in her Sutter Lake series, and it hit all the right notes for me. The premise—a fierce, guarded woman trying to find peace in a quiet town, only to cross paths with a protective, broody hero—hooked me immediately. But it was the execution that made me fall in love.

I absolutely loved the feisty personality of the FMC. She’s strong, independent, and carries emotional scars that make her layered and real. Watching her walls slowly come down as she connected with the MMC was such a satisfying experience. The chemistry between them was electric, but it was the emotional intimacy that truly got me. Their relationship builds in a believable, heartfelt way, and the love that grows between them feels earned.

As always, Catherine Cowles delivers that perfect touch of suspense. It’s not overwhelming, but just enough to keep you on edge and emotionally invested. I love how she weaves danger and vulnerability into her stories without losing the focus on character development. This one had a bit of mystery, a touch of danger, and it elevated the romance beautifully.

The story brings together some of my favorite tropes: small town romance, grumpy/sunshine, protector, forced proximity, found family, and a touch of danger. You really get the best of a few worlds—deep emotion, steamy slow burn, and edge-of-your-seat moments.

If you’re into romances with strong heroines, heartfelt love stories, and just the right amount of suspense, Beautiful Exile is a must-read. I’m obsessed with this series and can’t wait for more. ]]>
