This is the second installment of the Compelling Fates Saga.

I am not going to lie, like a lot of other people, I struggled to get my bearings and get into the book in the begining. I think partially because I am in a slump, but also because it had been awhile since I read the first book. Which meant I was trying to regrasp characters and remember the ending events of book one and figure out where we were picking up from. It is also a bit of a slower start as Lessia is decompressing and healing from some of her traumas and struggling to accept herself and her gift, but once it picks up, does it pick up!

I love the glimpses into Merrick's life and the trauma/burdens he carries. Definitely helps us relate to this dark, brooding, MMC.

Definitely a good, slow burn romantasy with some politics and a world in termoil.

This is the second series I've read by Sophia, and I can't say she's ever been let me down.

This book is a freaking roller coaster! I am not going to lie, I struggled with the first half of the book. I read her other series, so I knew she had some tricks up her sleeve and just needed to keep trucking. It was just slow going for me personally, but once thongs started rolling, boy did they roll!

Lessia absolutely annoys the ever living crap out of me in the beginning, until she really starts to get her bearings navigating the hand she's been dealt. My heart absolutely breaks for her in the end. Not going to lie, I really hope her and Merrick end up together; they would be the ultimate, scorned, power couple. Loche and Ardow are very interesting people that have complex stories, I hope Sophia deep dives a bit more into Ardow in the next book.

The ending of this book threw me so dang hard I think I got a concussion! I've read a few other books by M.A. Frick. She is definitely one of my favorite authors at this point! Her writing is beautiful, the characters are well written and relatable, and you JUST. CAN'T. PUT
