Where I would give The Peripheral 4.5 stars, I give Agency 3.5 stars. Both average out to 4 stars, but these are very different books in the series. The Peripheral is stronger in plot and character development.

That said, I enjoyed this read, once friends told me to keep going, that it starts slow but gets better as it goes along. They were absolutely right about that. I'm glad I stuck it out.

A word about the title, which has to do with the Agency of sentient AI hybrids, not on the part of humans, though many humans in the story do make considered choices as a result of their own growth.

An enjoyable read. ]]>

Very good. I enjoyed the streaming show (only one season was made). The book is slightly different, of course, and I find that I like both versions, though the ending of the TV version seems a little more believable. The book version ends way too neatly.

I was actually surprised that there was a sequel, because the first book did not seem to leave a lot unresolved to work with. This read entirely as a standalone story.

I've started the second book anyway, and I'm not sure it works as well, at least so far. ]]>

Never Say You Can't Survive by Charlie Jane Anders
"I expected this book to be more on the essay side and as it turns out it was more on the writing tip side, as someone who only writes fiction as way to process things but with no intention to ever publish anything I don't think I was quite the right audience. That being said, it was very readable and sweet. "

Sucker Punch by Scaachi Koul
"I loved this book! SUCKER PUNCH: Essays by Scaachi Koul is a remarkable collection of personal essays that are written with wit and intelligence. Koul talks about growing up in the 90’s, dealing with her exes, body image, her mother’s health, the pandemic and her divorce. It’s one of my fave nonfiction reads of 2025 so far and I just love the bright cover!

Thank you to Knopf Canada for my copy and the publisher via Libro.fm for my ALC!"
