* Thank you Netgalley for giving me the audiobook arc to review*

I really enjoyed A Tropical Rebel Gets the Duke! It’s not your typical historical romance, and that’s exactly what made it stand out for me. Luz Alana is such a dynamic and refreshing heroine—fierce, intelligent, and unwilling to let society dictate her worth. Watching her challenge the British aristocracy as a proud, independent Caribbean woman was empowering and satisfying.

James, the Duke, pleasantly surprised me. He wasn't just a romantic interest—he genuinely respected Luz Alana’s strength and goals, and their partnership felt equal, which I loved. Their chemistry was strong from the start, and the romantic tension built nicely before things got steamy.

The historical and cultural details were another highlight. Adriana Herrera does an amazing job weaving in Afro-Caribbean history and identity, and it gave the story a depth and richness I don’t often find in this genre. I also appreciated how the book tackled issues like race, class, and colonialism without losing the heart of the romance.

That said, there were a few pacing issues in the middle, where things dragged just a bit before picking up again. But overall, I was invested in Luz Alana’s journey—both in love and in business—and closed the book feeling fully satisfied. ]]>

4.25

I really enjoyed Funny Story by Emily Henry—it was such a heartfelt, funny, and charming read! I’ve loved her other books, and while this one had a slightly different tone, it still delivered that emotional depth and swoony romance she’s so good at.

Daphne was a character I really connected with. She’s thoughtful, a little reserved, and someone who tries so hard to do everything “right. Watching her slowly rediscover herself, take chances, and open up again was really beautiful. She’s quietly strong, and I was rooting for her the entire time.

And Miles—oh, I loved him. He’s fun, warm, and the total opposite of Daphne, but in the best way. He brings this lightness into her life, but he’s also surprisingly deep and emotionally mature. Their friendship felt so real and natural, and the slow build into something more made their romance feel truly earned.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the balance between humor and vulnerability. Emily Henry does such a great job of mixing laugh-out-loud moments with quiet, emotional ones that sneak up on you. The small-town vibes and supporting characters added a cozy charm that made me want to stay in that world a little longer.

The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars for me is that a few parts dragged just a bit, and I would’ve loved even more time with Daphne and Miles as a couple after everything built up. But honestly, that’s just me being greedy—I was so invested in them by the end.

All in all, Funny Story is heartwarming, funny, emotionally rich, and full of hope. It’s a story about unexpected beginnings and the kind of love that grows in the quiet, steady moments. ]]>
