First Wife's Shadow by Adele Parks
"Gripping, unpredictable, and chilling!

First Wife鈥檚 Shadow by Adele Parks had me hooked from the very first page. It鈥檚 a fantastic example of psychological tension, pulling you deeper into Emma鈥檚 paranoia (or is it reality?) with every chapter. The story is a slow burn, steadily building an unsettling sense of unease until it all comes together in a brilliantly clever finale.

Emma鈥檚 descent into obsession is captivating. Her uncertainty about Matthew, her insecurities about his late wife, and the eerie sense that something is very wrong all build toward a suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat experience. Is she losing her mind? Is Matthew manipulating her? Or is there something even more sinister at play?

And that ending? Absolutely brilliant. So clever, so satisfying鈥擨 did not see it coming. It鈥檚 the kind of conclusion that makes me want to go back and pick up on all the little clues that I missed.

There鈥檚 something about Adele Parks鈥 writing that is extremely compelling and immersive. She knows exactly how to draw you in and keep you questioning everything.

This was another enjoyable sister read that I read with my IRL sister, Brenda.

A must-read for domestic thriller lovers!"

Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors and across so many genres everything she writes just works for me. This is one of my favorite series (and not just because I share a name with the protagonist), but it is fun and full of excellent murder mysteries, what more could a girl ask for? Mallory and friends go to McCreadie鈥檚 sister鈥檚 wedding in the highlands, but things are set off course when the groom鈥檚 best friend is found dead. Despite not officially being on the case when it is clear there will be no other real investigation Mallory, Duncan, and Hugh all work hard to try to track the real killer. I liked that Mallory and Duncan both got closer to something and further as some real barriers/drawbacks were considered in other ways and of course some miscommunication hindered them. I am beyond ready for them to realize how much they care for each other, but I can wait a little longer I suppose. I listened to the audiobook for the first third of this one before I became too impatient and had to just binge the rest with kindle. The narrator was awesome and I really enjoyed the audiobook, I just read faster than I listen. ]]>

I really enjoy this series. This is book 57 in this series and while I haven鈥檛 read them all, but I am slowly getting there. I liked that this one Eve (and the reader) know who the killer most likely is but the search is really about the motive which was a fun twist. I also really liked that it started with Eve and Roarke on vacation and you got to see them be relaxed and in love. A retired IAB captain is found dead and while it appears to be suicide there are signs that Eve can鈥檛 ignore and have her mark it as suspicious. There was an interesting little extra story that I feel there may be more to at one point when a fellow officer can鈥檛 handle that Eve is in charge of this investigation and loses his mind. I did wish there was a little more of some of the side characters, but overall I enjoyed this one. ]]>
