"Trapped with his Virgin Duchess"
by Claire Devon

Claire Devon delivers a steamy and emotional second-chance romance in Her Heartless Duke, a Regency-era tale full of grief, passion, and unexpected promises. At 22, Charlotte Lovell loses everything in a single day—her beloved uncle and her betrothed. Alone with only her loyal lady's maid Edna for company, her world is upended once more when Jeremy, a titled duke, arrives to fulfill a vow made to her uncle: to marry and provide for Charlotte.

The story unfolds through alternating perspectives between Charlotte and Jeremy, allowing readers a deeper insight into their inner struggles and the unspoken emotions simmering between them. While the beginning can feel a bit disorienting in terms of setting and character relationships, it soon settles into a compelling rhythm. Once the pieces start falling into place, it’s easy to get caught up in the heartache, tension, and undeniable chemistry between the leads.

Devon’s writing captures the emotional turmoil of loss and the slow burn of rekindled attraction. The romance is rich with sensuality—definitely suited for adult readers—as it builds toward a satisfying happily ever after. Overall, this is a passionate historical romance that rewards patient readers with heartfelt moments and a worthy payoff.

Recommended for fans of Regency romance who enjoy a bit of heat with their history.

Capri Winslow has crafted a delightful introduction to a new cosy mystery series with The Secrets of Cedar Grove. This book is a promising start that has me eager to see what lies ahead for Lila and her charming B&B.
Lila, the owner of a quaint bed-and-breakfast, finds herself embroiled in a gripping mystery when Dr. Blake, one of her guests, mysteriously vanishes. True to her curious nature, Lila can’t resist diving headfirst into the investigation, much to the frustration of Detective Ryan Cole, who repeatedly warns her to steer clear. The dynamic between Lila and Detective Cole adds an engaging layer of tension to the story, while the assistance of Lila's spirited friend Jane and her loyal Beagle, Barkley, provides warmth and humour.

The plot is sprinkled with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. Winslow does an excellent job of balancing suspense with the charm of Cedar Grove’s small-town atmosphere.
It’s a highly recommended book for fans of cosy mysteries, and I can’t wait to see how Lila’s sleuthing skills evolve in future instalments.
A great read for curling up with a cup of tea and letting yourself be transported to the intriguing world of Cedar Grove!

From the moment Jack brings the box home, the suspense begins to mount, and Garcia’s masterful storytelling ensures that every page brims with tension and unease. The box's influence over Jack is as captivating as it is horrifying, pulling readers into a narrative where the line between reality and the supernatural becomes increasingly blurred.

Adrian Finney has done it again with Strange Nottingham, weaving tales of eerie encounters and unexplainable phenomena that will leave you questioning the shadows around you. From dark figures lurking on the edges of perception to chilling whispers that send shivers down your spine, each story is more haunting than the last.

The tale that struck me the most was the heartbreaking and mysterious story of the man who would board a bus, climb to the upper deck, and vanish into thin air. The poignancy of wondering if he's still waiting, stranded in time for a bus that will never come, stayed with me long after the audiobook ended.

Peter McGiffen’s narration is, as always, impeccable. His voice perfectly captures the suspense and atmosphere of these ghostly tales, drawing the listener deep into the haunted streets of Nottingham. Every intonation adds a layer of unease, making the stories come alive in a way only a skilled narrator can achieve.

Having enjoyed several audiobooks in this series, I can confidently say that Strange Nottingham is a standout. Whether you’re a seasoned ghost story enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this audiobook will keep you hooked from start to finish. For even more spine-tingling fun, I highly recommend following Adrian Finney on social media for details about his spooky Sheffield ghost tours!

A masterful blend of storytelling and performance, Strange Nottingham is a must-listen for anyone who loves tales of the supernatural. Just don’t listen alone in the dark ]]>

House Down Dirt Lane by Todd Hugie is a masterfully crafted story that blends intrigue, suspense, and just the right touch of terror. From the first chapter, I was captivated by Samantha, a brilliant CIA analyst whose discovery of a monstrous fallout from atomic bomb testing sets the stage for a pulse-pounding journey. The story’s premise is fresh and inventive, with its environmental undertones adding depth to the high-stakes action.
Hugie excels in creating a vivid cast of characters, each bringing their own unique charm to the narrative. Samantha’s intelligence and courage shine, but the brave group of children, the eccentric elderly couple, and the eerie, derelict house rumoured to be haunted all play pivotal roles that keep you hooked. The interplay between these characters and their fight against an unimaginable threat is both gripping and heartwarming.

Aaron Smith’s narration takes this already exceptional story to new heights. His ability to bring the characters to life with distinct voices and expertly paced delivery added to the tension and excitement. The subtle tonal shifts were the icing on the cake, heightening the eerie atmosphere and making it nearly impossible to hit pause.

House Down Dirt Lane is the perfect mix of thrills, scares, and heartfelt moments. Hugie’s storytelling is richly layered, keeping you guessing and glued to the edge of your seat until the very end. If you love stories that blend mystery, action, and horror, this book is a must-read. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable ride! ]]>

Nicely Out of Tune
by Julia Florrie

Julia Florrie’s novel, "Nicely Out of Tune," is a delightful jaunt through the picturesque corners of a small Welsh village, where the rhythm of life pulsates through the laughter and camaraderie of a local band. With its vibrant characters and heartfelt storytelling, Florrie's work emerges as a charming celebration of community, individuality, and the beautiful imperfection of both music and life itself.

At the centre of this enchanting tale is our protagonist, a young woman with a longing to find her footing amid the nostalgia of missed opportunities and self-doubt. She bravely steps into the world of music, not as a virtuoso, but as a seeker of belonging. The novel thoughtfully portrays her struggles—those moments of insecurity that resonate deeply with anyone who has ever felt like an outsider. Florrie artfully captures the essence of her journey towards self-discovery and empowerment, reminding readers that sometimes the sweetest melodies come from embracing our flaws.

The band, a vibrant tapestry of eccentric and lovable members, breathes life into the narrative. Each character is imbued with quirks that render them relatable and profoundly human. Their interactions are ripe with humour, often causing readers to chuckle at the absurdity of life while simultaneously providing moments of unexpected poignancy that tug at the heartstrings.

Her prose dances effortlessly across the pages, inviting readers to lose themselves in the delightful world she creates. The author’s knack for blending lighthearted humour with deeper emotional themes makes this novel accessible to all, transforming it into an uplifting escapade.
While the plot may follow a familiar rhythm, the novel’s true power lies in its exploration of themes that resonate universally. Florrie subtly emphasizes the importance of community, the bonds of friendship, and the gentle acceptance of one’s true self. Each page encourages readers to cherish the unrefined moments, reminding them that life, much like music, is often more beautiful when it’s not perfectly composed.

In conclusion, "Nicely Out of Tune" is a mesmerizing debut that deserves a place on your bookshelf. Its easygoing pace and endearing characters make it nearly impossible to put down. Embark on this delightful journey through the charming hills of Wales, and you’ll soon discover a world where every wrong note contributes to a richer, more beautiful symphony of life.
