Theories of Personality, 鈥嶥uane P.鈥 Schultz, Sydney Ellen Schultz
At the beginning of each chapter on each personality theory, Schultz quotes a short biography, along with specific notes from the author, and at the end of each chapter, under the heading of the final commentary, evaluates each theory with a critical perspective. And clearly demonstrates its strengths and weaknesses; And at the end of each chapter, Schultz poses questions to the reader as self-experimentation, to draw his attention to the main points of each chapter.
The Best of this book is how the authors explained how childhood affected and shaped each Psychologist's main theory , which is the cornerstone of Freud's theory. Carl Jung's lonely childhood , Fantasies and episodes of neurosis made him think of Intro & extrovert classification and that inner growth of ourselves is more important than relations with others. Freud , the spoiled child and his mother's favorite one , thought that relations with others shape us. Adler's sickness as a child , weakness and inferiority led him to admire people who take the challenge and fight their weakness. His theory was mainly based on this concept. Karen Horney , The little girl who had sought love and security and felt inferior to her brother , later on became one of the earliest feminists whose theory was based on the need for love.
These facts make Freud's principles above them all , childhood shapes most of us.
Es un textbook pero sorprendentemente es informativo sobre las teor铆as de la personalidad as much as del chisme de la vida de los psic贸logxs mas famosos. Me gusta que la manera en que esta escrito es medio v铆bora y quema a todos junto con sus teor铆as jajajaj
Too elementary and lacking depth. Why were key neo-psychoanalyst theorists not included? I find this text racist and gender-biased, incomplete and unbalanced on its presentation of concepts.
This is a good book to recommend for people who want to understand the 鈥榮elf鈥 through the lens of psychology. The book not only details conceptual and operational definitions of grand theories in the field but also gives an account of the background of the theorists who proposed these grand theories. Great read if you find psychology fascinating.
Buen libro lo 煤nico es que incluye otras teor铆as de psicolog铆a que no son necesariamente teor铆as de personalidad. Si no hubiera incluido var铆as teor铆as que no pertenecen a la personalidad hubiera sido excelente libro.
This is about as simple, complete, and all-encompassing as a textbook on personality psychology can get. The writing is easy to understand, the terms are well defined, and each personality theorist's personal history is told alongside the ideas they brought to personality psychology. This textbook is both factual and biographical. I strongly recommend this book as an introduction to personality psychology.
