The world has fallen in love with Nick Gautier and the Dark-Hunters.

Now Nick’s saga continues in the next eagerly anticipated volume...

Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That’s the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn’t the average teenager. He’s a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him.

He’s learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive and keep a girlfriend so dang hard? But that isn’t the primary skill he has to master. Survival is.

And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known.

Or he’ll be the one who ends the world. With enemies new and old gathering forces, he will have to call on every part of himself to fight or he’ll lose everyone he cares about.

Even himself.

holy green lantern glowing Nick ,
the cover is glowing and blinding me! lol love it!

The world of the Dark-Hunters is unlike anything you’ve every seen before. It’s dark. It’s gritty. It’s dangerous

And it’s a whole lot of fun and a lot of laughs.

My name is Nick Gautier and this is the story of my life.

First off, get the name right. It’s pronounced Go-shay not Go-tee-ay or Goat-chay (that has an extra H in it and as my mom says we’re so poor we couldn’t afford the extra letter). I’m not some fancy French fashion designer. I’m just a regular kid well as regular as someone with a stripper for a mother and a career felon for a father can be.

Review:
And now I’m seriously hooked to this series!

First off, I’d like to let you know this is the first series from Sherrilyn Kenyon I ever read and LOVED . I read the first book of Dark Hunter, the Night Pleasure (last month) and as much as I like the characters I didn’t enjoy it as much as the Infinity. I’m still scaling if I’ll continue reading the DH series, "chronologically". Or Ill just skip and read the books with Acheron and Nick story. (Two of most character I seriously want to know more about)

Infamous like the previous books in the series is a rollercoaster action with sharp witty humors that absolutely hooked me to this series. Unlike in the , with zombie attack and , with the killer coach, this time Nick Gautier is walking the fine line between good and evil. He has to deal with demons that are trying to enslave him and his father trying to kill him. With lots of sidetrack like school bullying chaos and his mom drama thing. It wasn't as exciting to me as the past installments, but that was mainly because the author spent a lot of time laying the ground work for the series. The series is starting to take shape, but the main story plot seemed loosely threaded throughout the book to string together the bullying aspect. It was so strongly intertwined with the other story lines I felt it got lost at times, which I found made the plot hard to follow in the middle of the book, before things came together in the end. Not only that, I have to say there were so many characters introduced in chapters that it became difficult to follow who was who. It’s kind of hard specially if readers didn’t read the DH series just like me. However those characters that did stand out enough to be easily remembered provoked interest and empathy and certainly kept me reading on.

Did I mention that I totally love the audio of this book?
Except to Jim Dale, the voice of 'all' the characters in the Harry Potter audio book series, I’m officially in love with Holter Graham's narration of the three books of Chronicles of Nick. He did an amazing job with creating wonderful voices for each distinct character. Matching the voice with the character's personality and their accents is truly admirable. It adds another dimension to the very character that I trying to visualize in my mind. I recommend if you want to read this go for the audio book !

As you can see from the number of books in the DH series, it has a massive range of Greek mythology, demons and other creatures. I probably try to read that series because I have a feeling that this 3rd installment is the start of whack up intertwined between and .

All in all, Infamous have interesting plot with interesting characters. It is action packed with a lot of emotion and great quality writing. And the well-sarcasm and witty humor of 'my' Nick? - priceless .

Some of my favorite Nick moments:

“That’s right. Uh-huh. Uh-huh, Nick said arrogantly. “You
might know karate, boy, but I know gorilla, and I’m a levelforty
champion in it. Let’s hear it for Diddy Kong! Ew! Ew!
Ew! Ew! Ew! He mimicked the sound of a gorilla as he
held on for dear life.
...
Thorn: You've no real powers, do you?
Nick: Oh contraire, mon frére. I'm able to annoy all adults in ten syllables or less. Sometimes, I don't even have to speak at all. I just walk into the room and it rankles them.
Thorn: I can see that.

Infamous, by Sherrilyn Kenyon pretty much says it all.. who needs to actually write a review? But I will try. When JK Rohling wrote Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I hated it. It wasn’t because it was dark, I got that, it wasn’t poorly written, it wasn’t about the fact that the world was out to get Harry, No. It was about the fact that 15 year old Harry had a huge attitude. It took me forever to realize that it was the only realistic thing in the book. I had a 15 year old male child at the time and it was like reading a mirror description of what I had at home. Why speak of Harry Potter in a review about Nick Gautier? Well because he too is 15 and Sherry got it oh so right. Yes, his trademark, Nick Gautier attitude is there but so is this dark, seething, brooding male of the human species.

Infamous is much darker than the previous two books and we see Nick’s battle really gearing up. His relationship with Ambrose starts to make sense and we begin to get a peak at how Sherry is going to combine this Nick with the Nicky we have already met and fell in love with the early days of the Dark Hunter Series. We get a lot of information in this book and it leaves the rollicking good time concept of the first two books. But that makes sense, Nick is growing both as an adolescent human and as the Malachai.. The good news, even though it is most indeed darker than the previous books it in no way compares to Sherrie’s offering to suffering and despair, Archeron, although it has it’s moments. I suppose to really understand a character of such depth that Nick is turning out to be we must first understand how they came to where they are. Fortunately for us, we get Nick in pieces instead of all rolled up in one book. This way we still get to see the charming, snarky, pain in the derriere that we call Nick.

Infamous in many ways is about relationships.. Nick’s relationship with Kody, Caleb and most importantly his mother. We also find out about Bubba and his family and get to meet his mother, the dynamics of this relationship come as quite the surprise. It also embraces the concept of creating a family, knowing who your friends are and in learning to trust them. We also learn that sometimes those that you think are on your side, aren’t.

This story begins, the real story not the prologue, as Nick, Kody and Caleb walk into home room and discover that something nasty is happening at the school. First off there are horrid pictures of Brynna Adams (yes one of those Adams) manufactured and posted on computer.. then students are posting rumors and innuendo on another person’s locker.. Then all heck breaks loose as Nick and crew try to get to the bottom of things. Nick has to battle Demons both inner and outer, in this realm and other ones.. He has to fight his mother to be heard, truly heard and worst of all, he is in constant battle with true evil, humans.

Along the way he is beaten, betrayed and not believed. Every time he does what is right, what we know is right someone takes him down for it. He has to battle his way through demons, makes his first sneak appearance into Azmodea and enjoys a rather strange first meeting between Nick and Asmodeus. Ok, could a meeting between those two be anything but strange? But I giggled my way through it, I couldn’t help myself. Adarian Malachai makes his presence felt and in doing so we learn a few interesting facts about why Nick can be saved.. Nicky also makes a deal with someone that infuriates an unbelieving Ambrose.

As I previously stated Infamous is a dark, brooding, cacophony of the demons that control us but it has it’s fun moments and it is endearing in the way Nick continues to really want to be normal, human and good. Yes, Nick has way more battles ahead but he shows such promise. Maybe Ambrose will finally be happy. Do I recommend this book, heck yeah.. it is a must read for those who are following Nick’s chronicles but more than that it stands as a wonderful example as why Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of the leading PNR writers today.

Reading this book, I found a new side of myself that I honestly never thought existed. Now, before you think I mean that in a good way, stop. I bought this book the day it came out. I was first in line for it. I read it in one day and it took me until today to write the review because I just could not trust myself not to blow up in fury.

Never in my whole existence have I EVER wanted to reach into a book, wrap my hands around the neck of a fictional character and squeeze. I have never felt so furious then I did reading this book. It was only because I spent $20 on the book that restrained me from pitching it into oncoming traffic, setting it on fire and then pouring acid on the ashes.

I LOATHE Cherise Gautier! I loathe her the way I.... no, there is nothing I loathe more than I loathe her. There is no other hate as strong. I have never felt this much hatred for someone made up. She is evil. I don't know where people get off thinking she's so wonderful and amazing. She is the poster child for what a mother should NEVER BE. Forget the vampires, the zombies, the monsters; she is it! I have two boys of my own and I would skin myself alive before ever treating them the way she treated Nick in this book. I never made it any secret that I wish she would just die, but I really, really wish she would already. It would be the best thing to happen to Nick. I SWEAR. In my eyes, she is the antichrist. If it wasn't because I adore Ms. Kenyon's writing, her Dark Hunters and her imaginary world, I would just forget this series and never look back. All because of Cherise Gautier and the bullsh*t she represents.

*Deep cleansing breaths*

Okay, enough of that.

On a happier note, I did like Cody much more. I didn't mind her in the other books. She was there. She was cool, but I liked her in this book and the more I read, the more I thought maybe, just maybe, Ms. Kenyon was trying to make up for the lack of affection and love shown from his mother by the things Cody said and did, because I felt a lot of love from her in this book. She was awesome. Nick needs all the love he can get and I am so, so, SO happy that Ms. Kenyon surrounded him with people who BELIEVE in him and TRUST him and know he's a GOOD KID! (Unlike certain people who SHOULD know these things, but is too stupid and Mary-sue to do so).

Of course, there is another part to the series coming out next year. I think I read somewhere that there would be one book every year until Nick is eighteen? or twenty-one? Which means we have a long, long, time before this series ends. Normally, I would be ecstatic by the news, but knowing there may be another eighteen more books with Mother Monster... I can only cringe. At the same time, I am praying we see very little of her in any other book.

So, in conclusion:

Will I read the next book? We'll see.

Will I tell my friends about this book? Unlikely

Did I enjoy it? After skipping about 70%... yes-ish.

There are distinct comparison from an emotionally-draining read to emotionally-tugging read. I think Infamous had pulled the latter best. This is a heartfelt read, even when you read crazy things like demons possessing people or crazy rich billionaire heir who worked as busboy.Yes, its in this one book that I claimed to be heartfelt. It is because it caught me at times when I least suspected. The vulnerable part of emotions being portrayed by the casts; Nick, and especially Cherise had left me with more awed with their unbreakable son and mother ties. I love that sneaky part that somehow played a huge role in this book, more prominent that the first two books in the series.

So, the story began with disaster struck the school ground again with darkest secrets being spilled and people started to accuse each other.Seriously, they should have bathed that ground with holy water or something. First cannibal zombies eating jocks, then football coach demon killer and now this? At this rate, I think the school should be close already. But enough about that, its Nick where we concerned here. So the annoying but kind teen boy Nick was, he was accused of doing all sorts of things that he didn`t do.It kind of fired him up to unleash his Malachai`s powers, but luckily we got Kody to kiss away his grief and dismal. So, yes. He got kissed a lot here, and beaten to death too..Like 3 times? Thus the worried mother. I swear that Nick`s mom got to be the best kickass mom ever written in history of mankind. She absolutely cherished (like her name) her boy. So everytime the kid took a beating, she was all sad like part of her was dead.

I think in this book, Nick had definitely evolved to become a mature mandork and Malachai. Although future still hold uncertainties for him, he was adamant on not repeating what Ambrose did in his past. In this book too, we learned more about the Demons, Gods, Malachai, and little about Kody the mysterious girl that Nick loved. I love the various characters here.Bubba`s mother was a good surprise. We got to see more of Acheron,Kyrian, Caleb, Adarian and even glimpse of goddess Artemis. So yeah, the casts were filled in this book. The writing were witty as usual, more than the second book I think, so yeah.Love that. But the ending I hate. Damn cliffhanger.WTH?!? Who was it..Kody? Jill? I had this feeling that told me Bryanna likes Nick. And Grim...Grotto. Thats a joke for those who`ve read Lemony Snicket`s. Anyway, done for this review..

A good read!Enjoy this one a bunch eventhough the mood was dampened by the realizations that I got tones of assignments to do and school is about to start yet...

Nuff said~

I started reading this series when I was in the middle of Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. If you've read them, then I'm sure you know about where I was when I just had to know all the things about Nick. All the things!

This series just gets better and better. It's funny, fast paced, full of quirky and fun characters, and there's cameos from the Dark Hunter-verse. Once I pick one of these books up, it's hard to put it down.

Nick and his friends find themselves in all sorts of shenanigans, once again. But, more importantly, Nick finds out more about himself and who he is. Oh lawdy, does he find out! Sheesh. Dude has some serious powers, now if he could just figure out how to use them better...

He also needs to figure out what the heck is going on with Kody and Caleb *gives them major side-eye* They're seemingly loyal to Nick, but... I don't know. I have a bad feeling about them.

The side characters are all kinds of awesome, I especially enjoy Kyrian (duh!) and Ambrose (double duh!), but my heart truly belongs to Nick. He's quickly becoming a top favorite character of mine.

WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Another awesome book by . I have been waiting for this one since and it was so worth it. Nick continues to grow but never losing his hilarious cajun roots. I was literally laughing out loud on serveral occasions, which was not good because I was at working listening to the audiobook. Are you trying to get me fired Ms. Kenyon? And the cliffhanger at the end. OMG! I won't spoil it for those who haven't finished it, but it is going to be a shocker. I didn't see that one coming out for a long time. Poor Nick.

The book was none stop action and discovery, with well developed characters and great writing style. It kept me guessing from beginning to end with one twist after another. I loved loved loved it. The only problem I have with the series it that I have to wait a whole year for the next one to come out. Hurry Ms. Kenyon!

I AM STILL CONFUSED ABOUT EVERYTHING.

Infamous was a bit better than the previous two books in this series and YET I am still confused as to who is bad and who is good. I feel like I need a massage with all of the whiplash I received from this book. It was a short audio, just like the second book, but I'm just utterly confused about things.

The one thing I'm not confused about: Nick and Koda. They are definitely cute and I liked getting to see a certain someone's jealousy side. It was adorable and I was all for it. Then there's his adorable relationship with his mom that just made me smile. I usually read books where there's a parent-child relationship with the father more so it's interesting to see the mom's side of it.

Other than all of that, these cliffhanger endings will be the death of me. I just want answers!!

Warning May Contain Course language and many spoilers.

Oh and sometimes i may be just yelling at a invisible Sherrilyn Kenyon. so dont freak out :D
Now dont get me wrong i absolutly love this series, so my bashing coming out next means no disrespect to those die hard fans out there, and i know you're there.

this is very long. so if you have already read this book i encourage you to read this, but if u havent read the book yet, most of what im saying will seem like gibberish to you so, either read the book and come back, or just dont read the book. its either ignorance or arrogance, you choose.

Okay so so much to say about this book. First, this entire book was just an excuse for character developement. the conflict was never really relevant.
we spend so much time watching nick learn and grow, and no time at all finding out who or what is the problem here. near the end im not ever sure how they figured out it was the person who did it.

Which brings me to my next point. sherrilyn created a character all in the last ten pages to take the fall for the plots conflict. and you could tell the ending was rushed, like "i need to finish this book by tomarrow, so lets make someone to be the bad guy, even though were so far already into the story." that was very slopy writing there. she created this characted that was NEVER relevant to the plot, or even existed for that matter till the end, just because a scape goat was needed for the ending. at this point it would have been better if it was Stone or someone like the jock assholes was the "bad guy" so we can still identify where we have our good and bad in this story. also with the new character being possed by some evil demon set out to stir shit? where the hell did that come into this, and nick can just talk to it to in a language he never learned at the end? this brings me to my next point.

Nick thoughout this book developed the ability to learn to do things when the story calls for it. this isnt Dragon Ball Z. how can he learn to go Super Sayan Malachai in the middle of the book just because hes "Angry". that makes perfect sence. he has all this raw untaped malachi power, and learns to create magic armor that takes "years to master" in seconds because the plot calls for it. cause when i get angry i learn new skills instantly and can preform them without flaw. so when im really upset i can just fly, and do whatever the hell feels right? no this made this book extra shitty. sherrilyn if u want nick to know how to blast demons, teach him to blast demons. dont just write "with his anger, he gained the ability to blast demons". Sloppy sloppy work.

Next the plot changed soo much from where we left off in invincible. nick was supposed to learn how to control his powers and kept safe, on the contrary that didnt happen. nothing close to that really. all that went on was 1. something dangerous/bad happens 2.Nick gets hurt, and goes to hospital. 3. Nick gets better. then repeat these steps until we run out of pages. i swear if this book was a bit longer i could tell you what happen next based on this pattern that formed. it was as if sherrilyn took a basic plot, and just kept repeating it, and repeating it. all this buying time for character developemnt.

This book left too many questions than it answered. especially with some characters. why do we only get little glimpses of character developement from some characters, *cough* Adarian *cough* Grim *cough* Caleb *cough* (the list goes on). why do we never see there motivations for doing anything, just that they did it. like a child we dont get yet understand why something is the way it is, but for now we have to accept it. please explain why adarian loves cherise, just so i can sleep at night. this goes against all his other actions. like beating her around when he used to live with them, but now HE CANNOT HARM HER BECAUSE IT WOULD HURT HIM SO MUCH ON AN EMOTIONAL LEVEL. O_O when did the ruthless killer with no emotions get a heart? cause mere minutes before this he was a cold unfeeling monster who was going to murder his own son for his own selfish gains. AND GRIM!? why is he ploting in the end to hurt nick, this makes abosolutly no sence with what he was in the previous book. Previous book grim-" i must help teach and nurture this child untill he blosoms into a beautiful flower". This book grim- "i must end this childs life in the most painful and horrible was possible". is it just me or do you not see the transition too.

The ending of this book was a sad excuse for a cliffhanger. once again calling kody's loyalty into question. WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THIS! why would she put herself everything shes been through for him, make us fall in love with her, give the two of them a unbreakable bond of love. and now try to turn us against her? fuck off already. (not u sherry im just mad) why are you making this your cliffhanger?! we already know that she has a duty and nothing will change where shes from, or what shes supposed to do. but my gosh u made this story. dont forget the shit u put them through!

Sherrilyn kenyon, please dont make a book like this one again. if the next one is as bad as this one was, im dropping this series. not threatning you just asking you to please. PLEASE! do better next time.

But it has a silver lining, heres the some things and in the character developement i liked.

Archeron- He never changes, he remains constant thoughout the entire thing. always remaining badass, and dude props for making Adarian shit himself just by looking at you. u need a trophy. a "i made a extremly dangerous and scary man shit himself in fear, just but looking at my awesomeness" trophy.

Cherise Gautier- you see her change for a mom who only looks at you when you do bad, to someone who genuinely cares, and understands your struggles, from a emotional wreck who could possibly disown you, to a emotional wreck who sort of gets you.

Kody- Kody becomes this amazing dream girl people wait there entire lives for. shes there when you need her, always looking good, and knows what to say and do to cheer you up. as she and nick grow closer you can really see how big of a influence she will be in this series

The message of cyberbullying and suicide was very inspiring. showing how everyone is special and life is a gift to be treasured, and dont let the haters win.

Good freaking night! This poor kid gets really put throught the ringer in the worst ways. Someone please give him a break. I'm not sure how much more his momma can take, honestly that poor woman.

Of course everyone is still kind of after Nick, but in this book the story turns off a bit to a side character who out of jealousy summons a demon who causes chaos throughout the city. Nick and Kodi get closer and closer together. Nick takes a beating again and again and most of the scenes seem to occur in the hospital. There were a ton of both monologue type moments with great messeges.. especially from both Caleb and Bubba lol. Nick and his self depreciating humor as well as his hilarious relationship with his mom and his total teenage boy-ness continues to endear his self to me and worm his way into my heart.

I just wish this series had a more solid background plot instead of kind of being all over the place.. hes evil.. hes not.. hes going to kill them all ... hes not. I'm starting to get the whiplash! I'm hoping as the series continues we get something more solid and stable.. there are alot of books in this series for it to be so wishy washy. Also that last minute throw under the bus there by Grim... grrrrr.

Nick seems to now be on everyone's radar to kill and take his powers. Someone is actively working to influence his thoughts and feelings in an effort to turn him toward his demon side. Simultaneously, someone at school has launched a giant smear campaign against fellow students, including several of Nick's friends, and Nick is caught up trying to figure out who is behind it before anything tragic occurs.

Ok, here's my problem. I like this series. I like Nick. I like his close friends. I like the idea of him being bred to be violent and dark, but still wanting to be good despite all the pressure on him. I even like that convincing his mother of his good intentions is one of his biggest struggles. But things are still confusing to me and the action bounced around a little too much for my liking. I literally got lost while reading it and thought I had jumped a few pages. I'm going to keep going, but I think I need a few answers and I really hope that things are simplified a little over the next couple of books, otherwise the author might lose me despite my fondness for Nick and his friends.

This installment revealed more about Nick and some of the characters pasts but I am still torn on what I believe Kody will be revealed as. I found the plot in this one just a tad slower than the first two books but still enjoyed it a lot.

My quick and simple overall: still feeding my Chronicles of Nick addiction so on to Inferno now!

Nick Gautier's life becomes more complicated and unbelievable as he realizes he has the potential to become the most evil and destructive creature in the universe. And a few months ago, all he thought he had to worry about was disappointing his mom, wearing tacky shirts and getting beat up at school. Will he be able to keep hold of his humanity or will he lose it all?

I am a huge Kenyon fan. I'll be upfront about that. I've read her Dark Hunter series for years and became hooked on The League when it was republished. Even with all that I was worried when the first of her young adult series, the Chronicles of Nick: Infinity, came out a 3 years ago. I wasn't sure she would be able to incorporate everything I love about her work into a young adult format, but I was so wrong. All the humor, sarcasm, and style remain; all that is missing is the sex (and hey, he's a teen so it's not there yet).

From what I've read she intends to have a book in this series for every year of Nick's life up until he became a Dark Hunter, so 10 books to cover ages 14 to 24. I'm not sure she's only going to have 10 books to make that goal. The first 3 seem to cover from 14 to 15.

While I liked Nick in the Dark Hunter series, he was never my favorite. Now with his own series, you get to know him better and see the background and thoughts behind all the snark. I think he may end up becoming my favorite of all her characters. He is smart, has a great if self deprecating humor, and a good heart. That does seem to be her template for heroes though. They are all smart, good looking, snarky, and must overcome a horrible past to be able to accept love. Even with that template, the books never feel formulaic or repetitive. She brings a fresh feel each and every time.

She also generally has a lesson or moral to her tales. For parents, the underlying themes are great ones for kids to learn.

"Life was so strange. Seldom did it make sense. As her brother would say, 'life isn't a puzzle to be solved. It's an adventure to be savored. Let every challenge be a new mountain to climb, not an obstacle to get in your way and stop you. Yeah, it'll be hard, but once you reach the summit of it, you'll be able to see the world for what it really is. And at the top, it never seems to have been as difficult a feat to climb there as you first made it out to be. Most of all, you'll know that you beat that mountain, and that you rule it. It does not rule you.'"

And, this one, which is in all of her writings. I wish more people thought of life like this.

"People aren't just ants rushing around over a crust of bread. Every life, no matter how isolated, touches hundreds of others. It's up to us to decide if those micro connections are positive or negative. But whichever we decide, it does impact the ones we deal with. One word can give someone the strength they needed at that moment or it can shred them down to nothing. A single smile can turn a bad moment good. And one wrong outburst or word could be the tiny push that causes someone to slip over the edge into destruction."

Words matter as do even the smallest actions. Even when you're tired, smile, and share a few friendly words. Say please and thank you. Be kind. Everyone has bad days and your actions may be the only pleasant thing in that person's day. This is something that hits me whenever I read one of her books.

Every time I start thinking life might be looking up it knocks me down and kicks me. When I read one of Kenyon's books, it gives me hope because her characters face so many horrible things, but they keep moving forward through the pain and fear trying to be better people. They remind me that what doesn't kill you may hurt a lot, but it still makes you stronger.

Did someone swap out the Ms. Kenyon I've been dutifully following? I did not like this book at all. This book was a hot mess for me. Or perhaps this is how it supposed to be since it's a young adult book. If this is what young adult books are supposed to be like, then it's a damn good thing I never had books like this when I was a young adult.

The characters

In this timeline, Cherise is a cunt. There is no other word for her. She also needs to see a shrink because she's obviously bi-polar and also passive aggressive. The Cherise in the other timeline is a loving mother who does her best for her son. In this one, she's a shrieking harpy. She's the one who stands out most in this book.

This book is a clown car. The cast of characters coming out of this storyline is like the circus clown cars where no one is exactly sure how all those clown fit in it and when another one will pop out. I can't even list everyone who showed up as a minor part.

The plot

Everyone wants something from Nick. That is basically what I see. This book is littered with caricatures of concepts which are beaten over our head over and over again. Never love a woman; she'll betray you. Suicide is the most selfish act in the world. Clockwork Orange syndrome Nick refused to defend himself to please his psychotic mother. These are just to name a few.

I honestly don't know what happened here. I love Ms. Kenyon's books. They are usually books that I enjoy because someone is doing there best at a second chance for redemption. While this book on the surface seems to be this way, with Nick fighting his in born nature, the entire book leaves me feeling dirty with the sheer amount of malice, teen angst, drama and petty violence. I'm a bit disgusted and quite disappointed.

The story jumped around and at one point I was wondering if I was tripping acid. From the nether realm to the hospital confrontation of his maternal grandparents and the Fringe...was I at a play where I left during key parts of certain acts so I missed the transition? At this point, I don't care. This book is the last in the series I'm going to read. It just doesn't do it for me. I can't fathom who I can recommend this book to read.

Infamous is the third installment in the Chronicles of Nick series and finally we are getting to some good stuff. That's not to say that I didn't have problems with this book, because I did but I'll get to that later.

Someone is causing problems at the school spreading horrible rumors and photo shopping things to make them look real and kids are going nuts. The complaint I had with this is I felt it went a bit far as almost everyone was believing them and some of the victims were contemplating horrible ends. That lead to one of my problems with the book and that was the long, drawn out, life lesson narratives! And there were way too many of them.

The other problem I had was all the comeback lines. I know this is a YA book but it was just overkill and some of them were really cheesy!

So let's get to the good parts:

Nick is starting to think...and starting to use his powers ~ his way and it's so great. I also love him and Kody. They are really sweet together and it was interesting how Kody affects Nick but I was surprised at the intensity.

Ash...need I say more? Obviously I'm a big Ash fan and I just loved that he had a bigger role in this book. So many little interesting facts in this book, most we already knew but it was great hearing them again.

Caleb and Grim are two characters that I'm still on the fence about and it's hard liking them and not liking them!

So, overall a decent addition to the series...wish there was a bit more action but hopefully there will be in the next book ~ especially with that last line!

Favorite quotes:

"In the land of Bad Ass, Acheron reigned supreme."

"Never underestimate a backwoods Cajun in a fight, old man."

If I could I would give this book 4.5 since I am a hardcore Kenyon fan and I did love this book. However, while there were many pros, there were some cons as well.

Pros:

- The story was wonderfully fast-paced and action packed. It was also as intricate and mysterious as all her books. I don't know how that woman stores so much in her brain, but she is a spectacular story teller.

- The dialogue was hilarious, relatable and full of depth and meaning all at once. Kenyon truly understands emotions and how people think and function. It's impressive how she well she knows pain, loss, fear... etc. as well as love and friendship.

- The book was packed full of good lessons and touched on issues with teens today. Cyber bullying was covered, teen suicide was covered, as was inner strength and taking the moral high ground. Infamous is filled with real life lessons, but it is done in a way that isn't preachy or annoying. It was thought-provoking and both teens and adults can relate to what is said in this book.

- Seeing more of the older character's from Kenyon's adult series, like Thorn! Yay Thorn!

Cons:

- While the story did move forward, I would have liked it if it had moved just a bit more. I felt slightly unfulfilled, like I needed a couple more chapters. I wanted more revealed and less mystery in certain areas.

Overall I loved Infamous. This is the type of book that can touch a lot of readers with its depth and understanding.
I can't wait for more. I am so unbelievably obsessed with the complex world Kenyon has created.

Reread 08/2021 review- The last two points of my original review are still true, however, I’m not sure this was better than the second one anymore.

**Nekoda calling suicide the ultimate act of selfishness pisses me off, and severely strengthens my dislike for her 😬**

Original 03/2020 review--This book felt so short =(
-For me, this was better than the 2nd book
-I’m glad I got to see more Acheron & Kyrian 😍🥰
-In the 2nd book Nick kind of got on my nerves a bit, but I think he was better in this one

Book 3: Gossip & Interloper

Nick discovers Ambrose's true identity and reveals to Nick the different possible paths his future could lead, each one worse than the other.

New development: Nekoda is now his gf; his dad makes an appearance and learns Cherise was the one who threw him in prison, he may love her. The possibility that Adarian loves Cherise means Nick was conceived by love and natured by love. First for a Malachai.

Nick and his mom's relationship is ever so irritating and glad they finally had a yell-fest and got all the hurt and anger out.

A hurtful website depicting lies shown at school causes him to end up in the hospital when a student overreacted. Nick learns when he's under medical-enduced coma, his spirit drifts into the Nether Realm. Meets Thorn and Bane who protects him and brings him back. Meets grandparents, they're horrible people. He realizes all those he cares about surrounds and grounds him; he is loved by many.

Yet clouds of doubt, self hate, and pain consumes him when the next lies throw him into jail. He feels the power of malice, understanding his dad for the first time; he could feed on the rage or let it fill him with suicidal thoughts.

He ends up in the hospital again after a student's father attacks him. Nick falls into the Fringe with Kody when the hospital gives him a sedative and he battles his dad (who followed him) who severely injures Kody; impaling together by a spear, Malachai blood is poisonous to her. Nick bargains with an unknown enemy to save her life.

For the first time, Nick has a new future. He knows he will eventually become a Dark-Hunter, that part will not change, but the catalyst has changed. He sees a future where the difference this time, either his girlfriend dies or his mom dies, either one will wreck him.

This is Kenyon's third installment of the series Chronicles of Nick and just like her latest book, I did not enjoy this one at all. It lacked good action and her characters are not interesting anymore.

Nick: Nick (older, DH version) is more interesting than this kid who keeps on getting grounded by his mom. This Nick is just a high-school kid going through puberty and learning about the DH world. Some people may like this Nick series, but I don't because I just don't find the kid version of him interesting. Caleb, Kody, etc.. they're just not interesting. Besides, we all know Nick is going to die at some point and become a DH. If anything, Kenyon should have made a 1000-page on Nick like she did with Acheron and what she's going to do with Styxx (I'm pretty sure he's going to get a big book). Nick's series just adds more confusion to everything that's going on right now.

Acheron: because this is a young-adult book, I don't find this guy interesting either. We all know who he is and I just can't find him interesting anymore. To me, Acheron will always be that little bitch because he rarely stands up for himself. Yes, he may have defeated some people, but it's always the "if I touch him, this this and that will happen". It's as if anybody he kills will have an awful consequence. Nick can't die, Jared can't die, Acheron can't die, Artemis can't die, Noir can't die, etc.... Can I please Acheron kill one of the major douche characters please? Other than that, he'll always be a little bitch.

Kyrian: He's annoying.

Amiee, Dev, Remi, Wren, etc.... their books came and went, they're just there now. I don't really care what happens.

I am a fan of the DH series because it's very complex. You have Gods, Demons, Daimos, Malachai, etc... but I feel as if Kenyon is just dragging on to the series (earning more money) to a point where people aren't going to give a shit. The only interesting characters left so far are Jared, Jaden, Thorn, and Savitor. Once these four have their books written, the DH series is going to have to end UNLESS she continues with completely different witht the children of these characters and everything's switched like the children of the bad guys are good instead of evil; but in that case she would have to give it another name. I wonder if that's why EVERY SINGLE FEMALE IN EVERY BOOK ALWAYS GETS PREGNANT?! That's another annoying thing too. Kenyon's characters don't know what a condom is.

But anyway...

Final thoughts on this book:

Again the story line is interesting and strong. I wish the dialogue were elevated a bit more, I think our youth can read better than we give them credit for (think Hunger games, or even harry potter). But what really bothered me in this book were two things. First, like the first book there were many microaggressions of homosexuality. The male characters can show each other any form of attention other than aggression without needing a homophobic remark to prove they weren't coming on to one another. Second, the "rape" in this book just further perpetuates a rape supportive culture in which we assume that women falsely accuse men of rape to exact revenge or make them look bad. The FBI reports that false charges of rape occur no more than false reports of other violent crimes (less than 2% of the time). So putting a fake rape in the book for teenagers does nothing but perpetuate this idea that women are making their trauma up. Please let's change this discourse. Was there not any other story line that could have gotten at the same message.

In the 3rdbook, Nick has even more trouble come his way. Someone is targeting the kids at school and using Nick as a scapegoat and saying he is the one giving the scoops. Nick is arrested and given an outrageous bond when a demon decides to pick on Nick because he refuses to turn evil.

This dark and gritty urban fantasy is the third book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s appeal to a more PG-13 audience. (I hadn't read the previous two books, but I have read several from her adult paranormal romances that occur in the same universe, and introduce many of the overlapping characters.) While it did take a while to center myself, I would argue that there is effort put forth to make this book stand somewhat sufficiently on its own.

Nick Gautier isn't your typical angsty teen from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s also half-demon, and it’s his alleged destiny to destroy the world. Assuming the world doesn't destroy him first.

Here's Nick in a nutshell:

“My name is Nick Gautier and this is the story of my life.

First off, get the name right. It’s pronounced Go-shay not Go-tee-ay or Goat-chay (that has an extra H in it and as my mom says we’re so poor we couldn't afford the extra letter). I’m not some fancy French fashion designer. I’m just a regular kid well as regular as someone with a stripper for a mother and a career felon for a father can be.

Nick, as followers of the series already know, is scathingly sarcastic yet uniquely noble. As far as male teen heroes go, you couldn't ask for much better or more believable—supernatural influences notwithstanding. While he is our primary point of view character, Kenyon doesn’t shy away from using an array of different peripheral characters to further her storytelling. The pacing is swift, the characterization consistent, and the actions scenes abundant. I particularly enjoyed the array of support that Nick has unwittingly built up and how it comes into play as he winds up in a few brutal bouts of trouble.

Themes of bullying and suicide prevention run through and through in this plot arc. Kenyon’s maternal side comes out loud and strong as the narrative repeatedly stresses the underlying value of life and the potential for even minor interventions to turn the tide in someone’s personal struggle. While the extent of these “teachable moments sometimes comes off a bit heavy-handed, this reader greatly respects that the author takes seriously her potential to influence an impressionable YA audience. She’s not simply seeking to entertain them, she’s striving to get them thinking (and coping with adolescence) more effectively.

The biggest drawback to this book? Nick’s mother. -_-
Cherise swings from smotheringly hyper-maternal to dementedly accusatory and back at the drop of a hat. On top of that, she has to be the worst judge of character in the history of literature. >.< Every time she's in a scene, I want to smack her upside the head with my shoe.
Did I mention I’m wearing cleats? >.>
