The epic conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane urban fantasy series.
Sabina Kane is on the hunt. Her prey: Cain, the father of the vampire race and the one who murdered her family and her friends. Unfortunately, Cain is hunting Sabina, too. The one man who holds the key to defeating Cain is, of course, Abel. A mage with secrets to spare and, hopefully, the power to match it. Unfortunately, for Sabina, he's in Rome and may not want to be found.
Sabina sets out for Italy with her friends, Giguhl and Adam Lazarus, to track down the only man who can get her the revenge she hungers for. But will he help her or oppose her? And just who is Abel, really? Worst of all, when Sabina figures out the goddess Lilith has a plan for her-she realizes this trip is getting deadlier by the minute.

A buddy read with Maria at the MacHalo Group:):) We are getting our vamp-witch on!!!!
The mission, if you choose to accept it : Find and disable, if possible Kill Cane, the father of the Vampire race and creator of Murder!!! Make sure he does not reach his obsession, the Mother of the Dark races, Lilith! ... This message will self-district in 10 seconds....
Of course, Sabina Kane, a half Vamp- Half Witch of the tender age of 54, is going to put this Mission Impossible on her doubly marked shoulders and get her friends and loved ones deep in it, just in case someone gets unscathed from the experience... Or as their very wise Rock Musician Mage friend says:
" ... “No, what’s insane is thinking that you’ll be able to defeat Cain. This whole ragtag team thing you got going here is charming and all, but this shit is as serious as it gets. Cain hasn’t survived this long because he’s dumb. You won’t be able to trick him into letting his guard down. He’ll keep coming for you until he gets what he wants. “Which means your plan to run will only delay the inevitable, Adam said. Erron raised an eyebrow. “Extra time will give you a chance to weigh your options and form a real plan. Not this half-assed quest that was doomed from the start. Besides, if being a coward means I get to live a few extra years, I’ll always chose that option. You should, too..."
So, Cain is in Italy and our gang goes there and proceeds to fall in every possible trap set up for them, making the lack of planning they have obvious even to the unobservant...
“I thought I told you to leave Rome. I raised my chin. “I am not yours to command. “Well someone needs to. What the hell were you thinking? I frowned. “With which part, exactly? Giguhl snorted. “Your teammates filled me in on your ludicrous plan. I crossed my arms defensively. “At least I had a fucking plan. Unlike some people who are ready to surrender before the real battle’s even begun. “Your sarcasm is both unwarranted and unnecessary. “Your existence is unnecessary, I shot back. “Ouch, the vampire chick said. “Can we put aside family dysfunction hour for a few minutes so we can formulate a plan to get very far away from here?..."
As I was saying...
SO, Sabina and friends had to go to the Underworld and reach Lilith in order to figure out who exactly is The Chosen who is fated to destroy Cain ones and for all. Sabina is put through some horrifying tests, such that I actually got very emotional when the dead Vampires who rule in the Bloodlands took their toll for passage... That was just cruel and nightmarish... On top of that, this Dog-g-d was being a douche and made their lives even more miserable... So, as is expected, going through the levels of Hell was Hell on Sabina and her companions...
In order for you to find out how things worked out, you guys will have to read the series and the book. The books are interconnected, so you can not read them as stand alones or out of order. This is the last book in this series and I have to say, it had its issues, but it also had many positives and a ton of humor. The preachyness got a bit OTT in the middle and upper half of the book, but it ended on one of the more hilarious conversations I have read as of late... So, everything balances out! I might even miss the characters, especially Gighul! This is hillarious, but it is also a spoiler form the last part of the book, so I will treated as such... Open at your own risk!
I wish you all Happy Reading and Lots and Lots of Laughter!!!!
I just keep saying goodbye to one series after another this month. It’s oddly disconcerting. I’m starting to feel like some sort of book undertaker. To be honest, the Sabina Kane series was never among my all-time favorites like Newsflesh or Sirantha Jax, but I still had a lot of fun with it, especially Green-Eyed Demon.
Blue-Blooded Vamp was all action, with a few delicious, swoon-worthy moments and a long sort-of-epilogue that was equal parts cute and annoying. But I’ll get to that later. I should probably tell you what the book is about first.
Cain, the father of all vampires, is still determined to destroy everything Sabina Kane cares about, but even more, he’s dead set on kidnapping his love Lilith from Irkalla and bringing her to the mortal realm, a move that means certain death for all dark races. Sabina, driven by her need for revenge, embarks on a mission to find a mage who calls himself Abel in the hope that he’ll help her discover a way to kill Cain without killing everyone she cares about in the process. It is strange for Sabina to have that many beings she cares about. Until she met Adam and discovered that she has a twin sister, she never really got close to anyone. But the last year of her life changed it all and now she has people to protect and people to avenge. Not necessarily in that order.
My lack of emotional connection with Sabina was never more painfully evident than while I was reading this book. I just never fully warmed up to her, and the only reason this series worked for me is the fantastic set of secondary characters. Luckily, there was always someone I actually cared about with Sabina, so that in the end, all the important moments had some weight for me. If it was a Big Thing between her and Adam, I was happy for Adam. If it was a lovely friendship moment between her and Giguhl, I was usually laughing too hard at something Giguhl said to notice Sabina was even there.
To go back to the annoying part of the ending, it would seem that there is such a thing as TOO happily ever after. Gah. Who knew? Not only did Jaye Wells tie up all the loose ends, she tied them up a bit too neatly, in my opinion. Did I hope for a happy ending after five books? Of course. Did I expect it? Sure. But I just can’t get over how fairytale-ish it felt! I almost wished for someone to die horribly and permanently, just to spice things up a little bit.
While it’s always sad to say goodbye to a series, I must say I think it’s the perfect time for it to end. These five books have been fun, but I have a feeling Jaye Wells next project will be amazing.
Buddy read with Choko. Thanks for being so understanding, sweetie!
4 stars might be an overrating but damn that final conversation was hilarious! Even if the book had been a crapfest this alone would have made it worth reading :D
After 4 books we're finally ready to take the fight to Cain! Or so I though at the end of the previous instalment. To be honest Sabina does try to do it. She just sucks at strategic thinking. Anything beyond a fist fight is a bit too much for her. It's not that she isn't smart. It's just she doesn't like to use her brain. And that gets her and all her friends in countless messes. Good thing she's hard to kill otherwise she would have dies long before reaching this point.
So when she and the gang get to Rome to hunt the Father of all Vampires, Sabina proceeds to get caught in every trap Cain sets. She also gets to meet Which is a shock for all of us. And Abel proceeds to proved that he can easily win the competition for the biggest asshole in the series even though he has stiff competition. Including a really annoying and acting like a spoiled teen god of healing. Who, by the way, is a complete idiot with an IQ in single digits. The way that particular plotline was resolved was hilarious. I loved Asmodeous. That demon king needed more page time! Why couldn't we have more Asmodeous time instead of stupid test performed by Abel before he would let Sabina go through more tests by Lilith herself? There were some pointless scenes and chapters here and there. Though I mostly think their point was to make us hate Abel. And talking about pointless I remembered my hope that all the drama from the previous book would have some point as a setting for something here. Guess what? There was no point at all. It was drama for drama's sake :/
Anyway, those test I mentioned before, the ones by Lilith, were pretty cool. It was my favourite part of the book. We got to see Irkalla, meet the Great Mother and her hubby and see how much Sabina has grown in the last 4 books from a self-centred assassin to someone worth fighting and dying for. I liked the idea behind the Chosen. The prelude to it was a bit over the top and way too sappy but it was a good one nevertheless.
Overall it was a good and satisfying ending to the series though I don't think I'll ever reread any of those books. I'll miss Giguhl and seeing him as a but you can't have everything, right?
I FINISHED THE BOOK and it only took me like 5 months.
A quick run down of the series because I cannot be bothered with a review:
-Only the first 3 books are worth it.. the last two have tons of cheese and the 4th one was just a whole bunch of misunderstandings which was kind of a pain in the ass to read.
-The female lead remains kicks ass but it reads like a try hard kick ass instead of a genuine one. Also she is a special snow flake. Oh and has a tough armor and will not let anyone get through. You know, THAT cliche? Sometimes I wonder if she has any survival instincts... it's a wonder she is alive with the stupid decisions she makes. LIKE COMMUNICATION WOMAN. It's a thing.
-The jokes seem a little over done. Now I am not one to complain about humor, I LOVE humor, but umm when even the Gods talk 'funny'... there is definitely something fishy going on here :P
-Adam is umm.. like a pain. He was great for the first 3 books but in the 4 book, his personality went down the shitter and well he could never really be redeemed IMO
-The plot is practically non-existent in this one. Okay so things are happening but.... really... no. There're just tests. For the finale, I expected, hell I wanted a big show down and a show down I did not get.
-Woahh the cheese. *shudders* and the romances... like what?
-Gighul was an interesting character but the ending did not work for me. It just turned him into a love sick fool and that's not funny anymore. It's just... puke worthy for someone like me who hates cheese.
-One word to describe the series: MEH
I'd recommend it to anyone in dire need of brain candy but otherwise, you might want to skip it... especially if you like finishing series. The last two books are a headache and stretched out for longer than they should have been. The paranormal aspect is pretty decent so that wasn't an issue. It's just that this series was so MEH...
Jaye Wells delivers in the epic conclusion to the Sabina Kane series. The half-vampire, half-mage kickass heroine readers have come to know as Sabina has her hands full as she tries to hunt down her next prey. This time the man she is after is far more powerful than the last enemy she faced down. The biggest, baddest chick is hellbent on exacting revenge on the man who murdered her friends and family , Cain the father of the vampire race. Nothing is ever easy for Sabina because it seems that Cain also has his sights set on getting rid of her too.
The only way Sabina and her awesome demon sidekick, Gighul and sexy hexy boy toy, Adam Lazarus can defeat Cain is by finding Abel. However, it seems that locating Abel is a task in of itself. So Sabina is en route to Italy where Rome holds the solution to all her problems. There, she runs into people whom she never expected to encounter.
As the final book in the Sabina Kane series, I was expecting something epic, something that would give readers that one last shebang before we say goodbye to Sabina and the gang. Wells delivers a perfectly paced story with that that refreshing bite of humor that I can never resist. I plowed through this book even though I knew it was the last one. I meant to savor it, but those plans were promptly thrown out the window once I opened this book and read the first line. There’s just this ease to which Wells writes. It’s effortless, fast-paced and a guaranteed a good time.
Sabina Kane was grown throughout the entire series. She’s gone from a being a kickass tough girl with a chip on her shoulder to a daughter, a lover and a friend. Finally, the biggest, baddest girl on the block has opened her heart and allowed people to touch her life in a way that leaves her vulnerable. Sabina still has her trigger-happy temper, but now she has people in her life like Adam and Gighul to tell her to slow her roll.
I also have to mention Wells stellar plotting. Everyone who has made a significant appearance in the series is back in some way. It was nice to be able to recall those moments as we met them again in this last book. Wells does a great job of closing out a great series that has captured many hearts and spellbound readers of urban fantasy. It’s sad to say goodbye to the snarky Sabina, the horny demon and the sex hexy, but as the saying goes, “All good things come to an end. I just hope Wells has more up her sleeve to tide us over. I want more pitch-forked penises!
Sabina gets to have her time with the father of the dark races after all, in this final installment.
We find her and the entourage in Rome looking for Abel. I think most of the readers have guessed who Abel really is. Well, apart from that, he is arrogant and very difficult to reason with.
Sabina has to prove herself though out the book and she gets to learn a lot as well. There is good enough action where she still is the badass we all know but with a bit of consciousness this time around.
The book could have gotten more stars, just for the sake of it, but the last 60 pages of the book where so ridiculous that I couldn't believe what I was reading. I am well aware of the fact that Jaye Wells is not the best writer out there if I hear the word dude and chick one more time but up until now she's managed to compensate with quite skilled story building. I know I am reading fiction and I don't expect everything to be realistic but somethings are just plain stupid. I can't say much more without spoilers but let's just say that Lilith, Asmodeus and the whole bunch are very bad caricatures.
Generally I liked the series but I am not sure I would recommend it to anybody.
Sabina Kane, the former vampire-mage assassin, is on a mission. Her mission is to find the mysterious Abel and ask for his help in stopping Cain once and for-all. Abel is after all the only person who has had any sort of success in stopping Cain. Now, he is needed more than ever to prevent the destruction of the dark races. Along the way, Sabina will be tested and her patience tried over and over again until it comes down to her or Cain.
Sabina, along with boyfriend/mage Adam Lazarus, minion Giguhl, and Recreant Mage Erron Zorn, find themselves in Italy searching for Abel. Sabina knows that without Abel’s help, she will have to fight Cain all on her own which is a major task to say the least. Several new characters including the vampire Nyx, who the god of healing Ascleopius has sent to find, join the cast and the fight against Cain.
Cain believes that Sabina has the power to cross over into Irkalla and help him kidnap Lilith away from Asmoedus, the King of the demons. Sabina knows that if she kills Cain, she and 6 others who are close to her, will die thanks to a magical spell that was placed on Cain.
When we last left Sabina, she was suffering from the loss of her twin sister Maisie at the hands of Cain. Sabina still questions the fact that she is the so called Chosen one who is said to be able to bring all the dark races together in peace and harmony. Somewhere along the line she realizes that it’s not just her that is needed to stop Cain and stop the war between the dark races. It’s become a team effort that includes those who have passed into Irkalla.
There is so much that happens in this, the last installment of the Sabina Kane series that it is hard for me NOT to spoil what happens. Lives are lost; reunions are made with those who were thought to be dead. And, a major confrontation happens with a surprising revelation that will leave readers either speechless or clapping their hands in excitement.
Wells really knows how to drive the horse towards the finish line. This series ends on a winning note and it should be noted that I’m happy to see it go out in style and grace, rather than a whimper and a struggle.
As for our snarky minion Giguhl, I am glad to have him back in his wise cracking ways instead of worrying about other things like his relationship with Brooks. I also loved the fact that he gets a reunion of his own and a shocking surprise at the end of this story.
Of course, it would be rather boring if the story was all about Sabina’s rage against Cain and her desire for retribution for her sister. The romance with Adam actually heats up and the story leaves room for imagination in where their love is headed.
Overall, this was a fantastic ending to a great series that leaves me sad but hopeful that Wells has something else in the bag for her readers and loyal followers. I’m happy that this series didn’t drag on to the point where Wells was struggling with storylines, or changing her character so much that you no longer recognize her or where the series is heading.

I was curious to read this volume and at the same time knowing that it was the last of the series, I preferred to keep it as long as possible (yes I know, it does not change much in the end). I think it’s always interesting to have the end of a saga such as this one and at the same time it’s still pretty sad to say that we will never see the characters again. Well now we know that we have them in some novellas, but it’s still always a little different. So here I am with the fifth book in the Sabina Kane saga. I was curious after the last one and as I wanted to see how our heroine would be able to face Cain after what happened, especially with Maisie. I must say that the fourth volume has messed the life of our vampire.
Sabina therefore goes to Rome with her friends to find Abel, who could help her to destroy Cain. But finding him sounds more complicated than expected and when in addition the God who worked with Sabina asks her to kill a vampire that nobody seems to know about, it does not help her business. I can not say more not to reveal the big surprises of the novel but it has many twists and turns throughout the chapters.
I must say that I was curious to know the real identity of Abel and I think it is impossible to even suspect who he is. But it was great to meet him and see how Sabina behaves with him. Many new characters are introduced here and some old ones return as well. It was lovely to see them all in full force. Sabina has a quest to lead but it’s much more complicated than what she thought at first. We will also discover the demons world and its subtleties. It was interesting to see that this world is more complex than we might think and that the characters are very different. The relationship between Adam and Sabina is also changing significantly, and it is a pleasure to see her so happy.
This novel was a nice conclusion to the series and I think that the fans of the series will not be disappointed. We had a lot of things from beginning to end and we never get bored for a second. I was quite surprised by the direction of the story but at the same time it made sense compared to what we had learned before. It was a very nice volume and I’m still a little sad that it’s the end.
After the harrowing events of the last installment, Sabina has only one goal in mind. Revenge against Cain, for destroying everything she holds dear. She's bound and determined to kill him, even if it is the last thing she ever does. Problem is that doing so comes with the steep price of the deaths of the seven people closest to her, a sacrifice she isn't willing to make. But a powerful mage that goes by the name of Abel may just know of another way to defeat Cain. Problem is, he has his own agenda and secrets that will forever change everything Sabina has ever known. It will be a fight to the bitter end with everything and everyone on the line.
As I think back to where this series started, I cannot believe just how much Sabina has grown. Don't get me wrong, she is still the same Sabina at the core, stubborn, obstinate, and one heck of a fighter. But the past few months have really shown her so much that she been able to finally let go of a great deal of her anger to become who she was really meant to be. In fact, she's grown so much that everyone else is finally taking her seriously and giving her the respect she deserves. But, more importantly she has finally started to accept herself, both the good and the bad, and she is so much stronger for it. In addition to her own self-acceptance, she has also learned some very hard lessons, including how to trust others and knowing when to ask and accept help.
Everything in this series to date has been leading up to the final showdown with Cain. I especially enjoyed the pacing of the build up to that final battle and then the aftermath was handled. In many final installments, 3/4 of the story will preparation leading into an extremely intense ending that a lot of time ends rather abruptly, not leaving the reader much of a cool down before everything is said and done. In Blue-Blooded Vamp, the pacing was much more even as the action was incredibly intense throughout the entire book rather than just the ending. Then one the final showdown was completed, the story continued for a while in resolution, giving that much needed break from the action while still continuing on. What was even better was the inclusion of the epilogue. I am a huge huge fan of these, as I love the chance to see where the characters end up in the future after their troubles are finally behind them. I'm a sucker for a happy ever after, no matter what form it takes.
I got everything I could have wanted and more from this final installment in the Sabina Kane series. Everything about it just screams epic and intense making for a seriously thrilling roller coaster of a read. Yet in between the almost non-stop action there are still stolen moments of emotion that really pulled my heartstrings, and only dragged me further into the story. Blue-Blooded Vamp could not possibly have been any more perfect of a conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane series.
Merely few days after the event in book #4, Sabina Kane, her mancy lover, Adam Lazarus, and her Mischief Demon familiar, Giguhl are going to find the mage known as "Abel", the one who has trapped Cain, the father of Vampire race years ago. They need to stop Cain from barging in to Irkalla, to kidnap Lilith, since it will be the end of dark race as they know it, if such things happen. On top of that, Sabina must also fulfills the two favors she stacked up from asking the help from god of healing, Asclepius. It will be the battle of all battle for Sabina and her loved ones ...
-----
This is the second series that I say goodbye to this year (the first one is 's Connor Grey series), and personally, I think Ms. Wells definitely keep the best book for last.
It only takes first few chapters for me to get hooked, especially when I find out the real identity of "Abel", which is probably one of the best kept secret for five books (). I postpone my other current reading and consume the whole 467 pages of it. It has action, twists, sacrifice, love, and well execution of the concept of "good guys win, y'all!".
While I still cannot say that Sabina is one of my favorite heroines -- she is too stubborn sometimes, and definitely need some sort of anger management class -- but I do think for the course of this book, Sabina learns the great deal what it is to be part of a family. Also the lesson of being a true leader.
Sabina's relationship is Adam is rock solid (no stupid thing like in book #4) and in here I clearly believe that Adam finally accepts Sabina for who she is. The whole mixed-blood thing. While hers with Giguhl is the one that I love the most (even more than her with Adam). Giguhl has stolen my heart since his first appearance. He's probably the only constant (and first true friend of Sabina) in Sabina's life since their first meeting. There is one scene ( that manages to choke my heart because their friendship is such a treasure.
I love the change of scenery of being in Italy. I love the description of the areas of the Immortal Realm. I think the final battle in Irkalla is awesome. The idea of the Chosen is smart. And of course, the wonderful, happy, festive celebration in the epilogue FITS what a story in a final book should be. PERFECT way to finish a series and I'm completely and wholeheartedly feel satisfied.
I cannot wait to read what other stories Ms. Wells will bring us readers. Hopefully she will present another amazing one ^_^
There are any number of series about ass-kicking, supernatural, wise-cracking chicks with a chip on their shoulder, but the Sabina Kane novels have always stood out from the crowd in my eyes. Blue-Eyed Vamp is the fifth and last book in the series, and I'm sorry to see the end of this unique universe, but author Jaye Wells has wisely decided not to stretch out the story-line too much, unlike some authors I could mention (yes, I'm looking at you Laurell K. Hamilton). Perhaps she may revisit other parts of this universe in the future, as there is a lot of stories still to tell, and I for one will be waiting to reading them.
Sabina has to undergo a series of tests in this tale which may determine the future of all the dark races in the world - failure will means the death of everything and everyone at the hands of Lilith. I don't think it would be much of a spoiler here to say she succeeds against all the odds, and does so by finally learning the lesson that she has been trying to reject throughout the story -
In among all the angst and bloodshed, there is still time for a few laughs, mostly supplied by Mischief Demon Giguhl - I will really miss this guy in particular, he's hysterically funny whenever he opens his mouth (which is often), and the scene where he gets to meet his future in-laws is just outrageously good. There is a happy ending for pretty much everybody, and what more could you ask for a story like this. The final couple of pages gives us a reminder of what Sabina was like when we first met her, and we can all see what a journey she has made in the last five books.
I can't wait to see what this author does next - but a Giguhl spin-off would be my preferred option!
So far, the best of the series and I do not say that lightly.
This is the first book where there is no problems with Adam and Sabina. It was really really nice.
The book pretty much starts where we left off in Silver-Tongued Devil, with the gang just getting to New Orleans. They are gearing up with the now loose Cain. They need the help of Erron, the Recreant, to get a hold of "Abel" to find out how they can get Cain back under wraps. Little do they know "Abel" is someone from the past and a MAJOR person in Sabina's life.
I really disliked "Abel" the whole book. Even in the end he couldn't be what Sabina needed. It was sad really, but he MADE the book. From New Orleans to Rome, Tuscany and to Irkalla, this book spans the Globe and below. ;)
Lots of character's show back up, those that are Dead and Alive. That is only part of why this book was great. Hell it even ends with a wedding! The story kept you constantly enthralled. There was still laughter, but the fact that the story never slowed or lagged was awesome. Tons of fighting and well, Sabina is just one kick ass heroine.
And so the series ends here - and right on time too imho.
Sabina sets out on her 'fool's errand' with Team Awesome (of course) to finally do for the father of the vamp race, Cain himself.
I was glad that certain character's who had outstayed their personal welcome with me didn't get a whole lot of prime time in this finale, namely: PW aka Brookes, Mac, Georgia and Zen. Also, if I'm being honest, Maisie was getting on my nerves a bit too - perhaps the writer felt the same and concentrated her efforts on the main characters.
I never really warmed to 'Abel', but let's face it; he had a cliff face to climb, without rope, and he never really gave it a try. I did like Nyx though.
I was pleased that the end didn't stop with the action of the last hurrah, but gave us a proper HEA with nicely tied bunches for all the characters. I would say this series gets better with each book, ends at the right time and is an action filled, interesting (I loved the mythology and hierachy), funny and well written vamp series. One of the best I've read in quite a while.
This book is the perfect ending for the series. It combines past and present in a satisfying quest to Irkall (the underworld) in order to defeat Cain.
This series has a little bit of everything - vampires, witches, demons, faeries and werewolves - heck even Cain, Abel and Lilith. What more can anyone wish for? I like how all the loose ends were tied in a neat little bow and Sabina (and her gang) only had to jump through a hoop or two (or a hundred). I'm going to miss Giguhl, he is hilarious. I agree with the masses, a spin-off featuring Giguhl would be amazing especially with Valva and the kids. I can just imagine the hijinx that gang would get into. A laugh a minute for sure.
I'm not gonna make this long, this series was a great ride. I love the whole gang. The journey they had to travel and the sacrifices Sabina had to go through in order to achieve balance was worth it. It was a happy ending indeed. Definitely enjoyed this series. Highly recommended. =)
I can hardly wait for this final book to come out!! I don't know about everyone else, but I have a strong feeling that Abel is going to turn out to be Tristan!! Hmm....just gonna have to wait then. =/
For fans of the Sabina Kane series, this book rocks!
Blue-Blooded Vamp is the perfect series finale, bringing together favorite characters past and present for an amazing quest through the many levels of Irkalla.
Blue-Blooded Vamp begins in New Orleans, where our gang is assembled. Sabina, Adam, Erron Zorn, and Gighul are getting ready to go after their nemesis Cain. They prepare themselves with all sorts of magic and some of Madame Zenobia’s voodoo spells. (Love her name!)
Flash to Italy. Yes, flash, the preferred method of travel for mages. No airports and long security lines for these guys. Our gang is now hunting the reclusive Abel who is to lead them to Cain. Big surprise as to the identity of Abel and Sabina gets put to some tests. Poor Sabina. Her daddy issues just seem to get worse and worse.
Finally, Sabina and her gang must enter Irkalla where she must pass many more tests. Should Sabina succeed, she would be considered worthy of being a “Chosen and then would be able to kill Cain without repercussion to her family and friends.
Oh, and some of Sabina’s past does come to haunt her
I only started reading this series about 6 months ago and as I read this book, I was surprised to find out that the entire series takes place over a four month period. The amount of character development and growth is remarkable especially in this book where Sabina comes to terms with herself and her identity. The epilogue takes place eight months after the end of this book and it allows the reader to see Sabina’s future.
As I was reading this book, I enjoyed the scenery literally. New Orleans, Rome in the weeks before Lent, Tuscany, even Irkalla all the sights were so romantic (well, not Irkalla, but it had its own special charms). The time of year also contributed to the story. Sabina and her friends arrived in Rome in the weeks before Lent. There was a crazy wild masked party on the plaza. The catacombs added a special touch of creepy. Rome made a beautiful backdrop for the story. The author used its touristic areas well. I loved her sense of humor: Sabina and her friends stayed at the Hotel Caligula. I had to smile at that.
The journey through Irkalla reminded me a little of a video game. Each part of Irkalla was sectioned into separate areas for each of the dark races. As Sabina and her friends passed through each level, she needed to complete a test. The tests were difficult. Sabina had to fight her comrades, face zombies, and so forth. At the same time the god Asclepius is after Sabina to complete a task for him. I really liked this part of the book because some of the characters from past books made an appearance and their stories found some sort of closure.
Things are going well for Sabina and Adam in the romance department. They are still together and in love. I was very happy for Gighul as he gets a little romance too. Gighul is still my favorite character. He gets all the best lines.
Blue-Blooded Vamp is an excellent series finale. You really couldn’t ask for more in an end to a series book. I will miss Sabina Kane, Adam, and especially Gighul. I hope Ms. Wells has some great books coming out in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit for a review copy of this book.
Days after the ending of Silver-Tongued Devil, Sabina, Adam, and Giguhl are in New Orleans heading to see Erron Zorn to talk him into helping them find Abel, his contact in Italy who knows all about stopping Cain. But a wrinkle occurs, Asclpius the god Sabina owes not one but two favors to makes a dramatic entrance. Asclpius is taking priority over killing Cain with his trump card, and wants Sabina to kill someone and return a magical item to him. The ace is, this vampire's in Italy as well. Sabina and her crew find their way to Rome looking for a man full of secrets...many of Cain and containing him, and many more. With few leads Sabina has to find a man hidden away for decades and a gorgeous vampire, two separate cases. The vampires in Los Angeles are rioting with out a strong leader, the previous leaders dead and one remaining turned tail and ran. She needs to be found and convinced to return. While the vampire system is falling apart can Sabina find someone to lead them in time? Can Sabina prove she is the Chosen One, even if she never believed it before, in order to take care of Cain? And actually make it through all the trials to do so?
EVERYONE makes an appearance in this novel. Whether we see them or talk about them in memory, they are here. It was bliss to be reminded of the people we lost along the way, and visit the memories again. To see where Sabina came from and where she's come to. Sabina has to do a few things that we would have never have thought her to think about a few six months ago where this started. Sabina and Adam have some issues to work through in this book, and find a way.
I was happy, mad, and cried with these characters. Then sad that it ended. But Jaye didn't pull any punches in the end. She laid it all out for us, rough to our hearts as it might be.
Jaye had to have known exactly where she was going from the first words of the first book, Red-Headed Stepchild. Everything we (and Sabina) experienced along the way leads to this finale. Whether to wear on us and worry us or to help us to the answers. The pieces fit together perfectly. This series all comes together as one and closes completely. BRAVO JAYE!!
This book could have been better if it had been cut in half and edited down to a basic plotline. I had such a hard time getting through this book that it's not even laughable. I listened (to the audio book) to this book in 30 minute increments because anymore then that and I'd start dozing off. That's how interesting it was. Also consider that out of the seven hours and some minutes, almost 6 hours was a big filler with a lot of drama.
I like Sabina, but having to deal with all the drama and problems she has it's a miracle that she's even alive. Everything seems to transform itself into a dire problem that seems impossible to solve, but gets a miraculous resolution by the end of the book.
Adam served almost no purpose this time around and I'm still angry about what happened in the last book so I was rooting for his demise, but don't worry my wish didn't come true. Tristen was another character that I wanted gone, but I still feel he got a happy ending. He was such a pain to everyone and delayed so much of the story because of his idiotic skepticism. One more thing that bothered me was that Mac's happily ever after was nowhere to be found.
The ending saved this book from a below average rating because it finally felt like something was accomplished by Team Awesome. I enjoyed Giguhl and his antics. I also liked how Sabina finally got to be respected by her peers. I'm so glad this series is over. Let Sabina and the gang rest.
The Audio Book:
My problem this time around was solely on the story. The audio book was awesome.
Superb, awesome, outstanding, thrilling...I could go on and on, but you get my drift. We first met the lovely, deadly Sabina Kane in The Red-Headed Stepchild, her world revolves around being raised as an assassin for her maternal Grandmother, the cruel head of the Vampire race and having prejudice all around her because her "never in her life" father was a Mage, whom the vampire race abhors. A wonderful reunion with her identical twin sister opens a whole new lifestyle for Sabine...and then things go downhill. Her sister Maisie under the control of Cain, the father of the vampire race, releases him from his prison and he takes from Sabine the most important person in her life. Sabine is torn apart with grief and goes on the hunt for Cain intending to kill him once and for all. Her only hope of ending the all powerful Cain is a mysterious mage known only as Able. And so the hunt begins as our kick-ass Sabine, her mage sweetheart Adam and the ever funny Demon Giguhl begin a trip that could mean the end of everything and everyone involved with the dark races.
I love the growth shown with all the characters involved in this wonderful adventure. And though this story is done, I hope we can look forward to a NEW set of thrilling tales from the talented Jaye Wells.
Funny excerpts: "Bael's balls, it suddenly smells like Cupid farted up in here." Giguhl yawned and stretched. AND: When the Vanity Demon) didn't respond to my voice, I tapped her very hard on the shoulder. Some might call it a punch, but potayto, potahto.
One of the best books in the series IMO, full of action and drama. Some twists were completely unexpected, some not, but I didn't get bored for a minute, even when I rolled my eyes at the stupid or unrealistic scenes taking place in front of me. I would prefer that the ending was not as sappy and sweet as it was ; It was just too sweet and Hollywood-like for me. And for yet one more time, Gighul was the star of the show:) He's one of my fave heroes ever and I laughed like crazy in most of his scenes.
As for Adam, I'm glad to say he was not the sanctimonious ass he was in the previous books, but I've never really warmed up to him I'm afraid.
All in all, I'm sorry I didn't read this sooner, because it was a very nice book, better than most in the series.
I liked Sabina more this time around. I actually found her to be justified the few times she lashed out at someone. Considering the major things she learned, I really couldn't blame her. I won't mention them because they are some serious spoilers.
The mancy was as hot as ever. I love Adam. Gighul was his usual hilarious self.
I will say that the journey through Irkalla and that final showdown with Cain seemed a little too easy for my liking. I'd have liked something a bit more engaging, but I'm glad that it worked out the way that it did.
I enjoyed the series and look forward to whatever Jaye Wells writes next.
I have issues with this. Really. It frustrates me.
1) Sabina's constant recklessness 2) Her rage, her mouth 3) Cain 4) Daddy's issues 5) Not getting straight to the point. Beating around the bush 6) Catching Daddy 7) Whatever tests Sabina has to go through 8) The final showdown
E-read/Fantasy: Well, it's over after five books. I'm going to miss Sabina and Giguhl. In a way I'm glad the author finished the book on a high note instead of dragging the series out for 18 books. Each book could be read on its own, but they should be read as a serial.
Fifth (and last!) in the Sabina Kane urban fantasy series about a half-vampire/half-Mage woman.
My Take If I gotta be stuck with this OCD disorder that requires me to finish books and train-wreck series, it's a good thing that I read fast. I wasn't impressed when I started this series, but I did like Adam and Giggles. And I was curious as to where Wells would take this world she created. Unfortunately, it's overly dramatic and cliched.
Why does Sabina think she can get away with ignoring the favor she owes a god? Yeah, this so sounds like something a god would do...or our own justice system: protect the criminal who has killed.
Well, from what I see of Tristan, he's absolutely no loss to anyone. I want to stick a stake in him!
Daddy Dearest kept careful track of one daughter and couldn't be bothered with the other. What. A. Sweetheart.
Sabina's track through Hell is interesting to follow.
For supposed professionals, I am so NOT impressed. This whole series has not impressed me. it's all a case of [fools] rushing in, unprepared and unthinking.
The Story Cain is free and Sabina needs to track down Abel ASAP, but Aesclepius wants his favor down NOW.
It's a round-robin of putting off Paul to pay Peter and nobody is happy as they play a form of treasure hunt and keep bumping into obstacles.
The Characters Sabina Kane is the High Priestess of the Blood Moon with the noble bloodlines of mages and vampires running through her, giving her Chthonic mage powers. She and Adam Lazarus, a mage with the Pythian Guard (think secret service plus special forces) are on the outs. Yup, the same 'ol, lame 'ol excuse for drama.Giguhl/Gigi, a.k.a., Mr. Giggles when he shifts into a cat, Sabina's Mischief demon, hooks back up with Valva, a Vanity demon he was dating back in , 2.
Tristan Graecus is a mage and Sabina's father; he died before she and Maisie were born. Phoebe is their vampire mother who died giving birth to the girls. Birch Jericho was the mage who tried to kill Tristan. His friend.
Brooks/Pussy Willow is a Changeling who has moved back to New Orleans and his old job with Madam Zenobia "Zen", a voodoo practitioner in New Orleans. The overly ambitious Alexis Vega was part of Tanith's personal guard. Now she and Slade "The Shade" Corbin---who's been tossed out on his New York ear are hunting for Persephone. Maeve is the nasty Queen of the Fairies. Rhea Lazarus is Adam's aunt and, with Orpheus' death, the new leader of the Hekate Council. Persephone is the last one of the sisters left to lead the Vampire Council. Shane Bettencourt owns a bar in LA.
The dead include: Maisie Graecus was Sabina's identical twin sister, the Order's Oracle, High Priestess of the Chaste Moon. Tanith Severinus is Sabina's bitchy vampire relatives; she used to rule the Council. Orpheus was the leader of the Hekate Council and commander-in-chief of the guards.
Master Mahan, the leader of the now-deceased Caste of Nod, is actually Cain, the father of vampires. Abel is a mage determined to imprison Cain. Nyx is a vampire who owes Aesclepius for a favor he did her. Richard "Dicky" Green runs a bar in Rome where he sells more than Boddingtons. Donna Chiara Rossi is the Master of Rome. Damiano is a traitorous vampire. Nicolette is the child Persephone gave away.
Erron Zorn, the lead singer, and Ziggy, the deaf mage drummer, are both Recreants (banished mages) and members of the shock rock band, Necrospank. Only, Ziggy has run off with Goldie Schwartz, their full-time hairdresser and self-described "fun-sized midget", and Erron is bandless and friendless.
Michael Romulus is the alpha of the Central Park pack, the Lone Wolves, and Mac's uncle. Mackenzie "Mac" Romulus has been force-mated to Logan Remus. Georgia Rousseau has inherited Mac's bar, Lagniappe, from her. A parting present you could say. Brooks is managing it.
Aesclepius is the god of medicine and healing to whom Sabina owes several favors. Lilith is the goddess of the dark races, the Great Mother, while Hekate is the goddess of mages. Clovis Trakiya is schmoozing around Lilith's court. Asmodeus is King of Irkalla and Lilith's husband. They're both Valva's parents.
The Cover The cover is determined with a subtle shock of contrasting colors: black, red, and a bright blue with grays. The streaky haired Sabina is undressed for success in her form-fitting, black leather vest and belted jeans, a gun in hand as she strides in front of the Vatican.
The title simply points up why she's the choice, this Blue-Blooded Vamp.
With Cain out and free, Sabina is determined to stop him. With Adam and Giguhl, she goes to see Erron, whose contact in Italy was the man who had imprisoned Cain. With his help, it might be possible to trap him again. The problem is that Cain is tracking them as they try to find him, and Sabina will have to accept help from a whole new group of allies that she struggles to trust. It doesn't help when Asclepius decides that Sabina is to murder someone who once tricked him and that vampire is one of Sabina's new allies. The allies have to plan for a trip deep into the realms of Hell to fulfil Maisie's prophecy and end Cain for good.
The group stop off in New Orleans to once again link up with Zen and Brooks, who is no longer living full time as Pussy Willow and he is starting to deal with the attack that he survived. He and Giguhl make up and start plotting a bit of voodoo mischief together! It gives Sabina the time to take Mac's letter to an angry Georgia who eventually agrees to ask her European contacts for anything on the vampire that Sabina needs to kill. Once in Italy, Sabina finds Persephone who is adamant that she intends to hide rather than take control of the vampires, which is not helpful in the middle of a crisis. She has better luck with Erron's contact Dicky, who gives her a message that was left by Tristan but their first meeting does not go particularly well.
Finding Tristan and his group opens up a whole new set of issues for Sabina to deal with. The fact that he was expecting to see Maisie and is less than impressed by her stings more than she wants to admit. Tristan doesn't believe that Sabina can be the Chosen and thinks that they are doomed without Maisie. Sabina has to try and prove that she can beat Cain but even she is unsure if she can do it. She also likes Nyx and doesn't want to kill her but she is well aware of the consequences of getting on the wrong side of a God if she breaks the bargain. Just to add to her stress, Giguhl comes face to face with someone that Sabina hoped he would never see again.
I very much enjoyed this final book in the series. There are several action scenes in Italy with Cain, as Sabina tries first to trap him and then evade him. There is the emotional drama of meeting Tristan, and the face from Giguhl's past making a surprise appearance, which I wasn't expecting. I also enjoyed the Nyx side story which presented Sabina with a bit of a moral dilemma. All of the allies Sabina has also make cameo or bigger appearances in the book which I like to see in the final book of the series. I was thrilled to see Brooks back and loved his scenes in New Orleans with Giguhl. It was also nice to see a bit of resolution for the Mac and Georgia story and the reappearance of Erron who is a great supporting character.
The big finale is the trip through the various stages of Hell. Sabina and her allies have to start by getting through the initial gates and then she has to face down a challenge in the vampire, demon and mage controlled realms of the underworld, all designed to test if she is the Chosen that Maisie predicted. Then it is on to the actual palace where Lilith will be in residence, with Cain and his forces in pursuit. I really enjoyed this mega quest and the challenges faced on the trip through Hell. I liked that there was humour even during these tense scenes and overall I did find the ending satisfying. I hate getting through a series I enjoy and having it go meh in the final book but thankfully this was a good ending to a really enjoyable urban fantasy series.
Don't miss the short stories in the series as they are also good reads.
What a fabulous book 5 to this series. Really pulled alot of the threads together, epic battles, gory details, love and loss, action, adventure, a quest, nasty evil, cosmic good. Good mix of all that stuff, swirled together for a brilliant outcome
Not bad - Although the Abel angle could have been brought in way earlier in the series. But in the end it was a good fast book. Sabina in her greatness, I didn't mind at all. However it's obvious that the author didn't have a solid story arc when she began writing the series. The first three books are all about Lavinia and the next two about Cain. Oh well.
