Another free-on-the-Web story under the Captain Obvious hidden content, I wrote this story to give a little shading and understanding to Richard Morrell, Monica’s (exasperated) older brother. We first met him in Glass Houses, and I took a liking to him immediately It’s not easy being the son of the most corrupt human in Morganville, while also being the brother of the most outrageous, selfish bully. Add to that a real desire to do some good in the world, and help protect his fellow Morganville residents, and you’ve got a man who has a hard day ahead of him. But one thing’s for certain: Richard does love his sister. He knows her flaws, but that doesn’t mean he won’t go to the wall for her and even compromise his ethics, from time to time. This will be a very bad day to be a criminal in Morganville.
Monica is a sociopath and Richard is fckd for always having her back knowing she doesn’t deserve it. Dude would’ve died anyway considering, but Richard made it seem like it was all over his sister 🙄
This one is completely different to all the other short stories surrounding the series. Due to that I loved it.
Instead of following the events of one of the main four we’re inside of the police department as Richard deals with an out-of-towner who has stepped out of line only to face the dire consequences. It’s a great insight into the world beyond the mania that surrounds the main events of the series.
Without a doubt an interesting read for anyone who wants something outside of the norm.
Wrong place, wrong time was one of the scariest of the Morganville Vampires short stories that I have read. It is a rare and really unique and fairly different from all the other short stories.
Wrong place, wrong time is from Richard Morrell's point of view in first person who is the mayor's son (later Mayor) and Monica Morrell's brother. He is described as fairly handsome with nice features and is shownto be extremely helpful to the Glass House residents throughout the Morganville books.
It is a story of remorse, sadness, shock and surrounds the events of a bank robbery of a few friends from Dallas unknowningly trying to rob a bank unknowing of the 'Vamp' situation. This follows through to what happens throughout the bank robbery, consequences following it till the end result which for me was like a bolt from the blue!
The storyline involves Richard Morrell making complex decisions holding his position of a Morganville cop after the event of the bank robbery. There's real surprise in Richard's personality and actions in this story and there are new revelations of his relationship with members of his family and how he has to decide between family or justice. We even have Monica Morrell playing her part in it as well which always adds a bit of spice to the stories! An excusive chance to get inside Richard's head and get a small but rare understanding of his thoughts feelings and reactions!
If you're looking for something new and a little different from Morganville but still including the characters then this is definitely your cup of tea. My advice is wait no longer and just read as it's only a short story and it'll only take about 5 minutes!...I bet even non-Morganville fans will love this but some knowledge of Morganville is essential to understand the situation and the score in this small, bizarre and extraordinary town!
This is so completely different from any of the other novellas, we get completely away from our main four and it’s like this story has a completely different vibe than the rest. Interesting, but it wasn’t that enjoyable to read.
A short story about the Morganville's town mayor, Richard Morrell handling a robbery case involving his sister, Monica. It's not often we read about him anymore in the main book after book 7. In this short story, he's showing his protectiveness over his sister. But we already knew that he loved her even though she's always giving him a headache.
Here's a recap from book 5 'Lord of Misrule.'
"Richard nodded. “Already done, he said. “My mom and dad are at City Hall. Monica’s headed there, too. He paused, thinking about it. “You’re right. I should make sure she gets there all right, before she becomes another statistic. His face had tightened, and there was a look in his eyes that didn’t match the way he said it. He was worried."
Love the short story! Getting every few into Richard Morrell’s head Was great. I was always curious about his character in this early enough to fill in some gaps.
"Wrong Place, Wrong Time" is a short story about an attempted bank robbery in Morganville. Three travelers decide to stop in Morganville for a quick heist of the local bank when they notice it is open at night. Well, you already know just how stupid that idea was. Therefore, Brian Maitland, only survivor now sat in an interrogation room with Detective Richard Morrell being interviewed.
Good old Brian is clearly in shock; but, he manages to convey the events of the robbery including the deaths of his companions by vampires. He knows he is an accomplice and only wants to confess and be sent away to prison somewhere other than Morganville. Unfortunately, Mr. Maitland didn't realize that the girl he slapped around was none other than............(wait, wait for it!) I am not going to say (hee, hee). You have to read this story to find out who the victim is and just what happened to good old Brian.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time is a short story in The Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine. This story is super short and told from Richard Morrell's point of view. Three out of town criminals spot the bank open at night and try to rob it. Morganville is not the right town for a bank robbery. His two friends are fanged and drained, and he hit Monica hard enough to sprain her arm and cut her head. Richard takes the statement and feeds him to a vamp. Ouch. Richard isn't the nice guy I thought he was. And his protective behavior with Monica is part of the reason why she's a psychotic Biyotch. Seriously, I've been hurt worse playing by myself at the park.

Wow! I never thought Richard could do something like that. Very interesting.
I'm one of those people who remembers small details about the books I read. In the Cat Who mystery series one of the characters is described over the course of the series with 3 different heights. In the Morganville series the one character in question is Monica. It seems sometimes she is described as a blonde and other times a brunette. In this extra...she is blonde.
This short story was about cop, Monica's brother, and future mayor of Morganville Richard Morrell. Pretty good story about a few idiots who wondered into town and thought they would rob the bank...little did they know they wouldn't make it out alive, being that this town is a town run by vampires lol.
Its a great book that gives us some insight into the Morrells instead of the main characters of the Morganville series. It also gave us more insight into Morganville and how stuff gets hidden. Do not think I will read this book again though. x
This is a good little novella to read if you are a Richard Morrell fan. It gives a little glimpse into how protective he is of his family and how difficult it must be to be a cop in a city full of Vampires.
Wow... I guess you don't cross Richard at all. I love these extras that give us glimpses about the other characters... I feel like I'm getting to know them all over again.
Darker side of Richard was interesting to see. But I like him as the good guy even better. As usual he has to protect his rotten sister. This story was just a cut scene, and really was pointless.
A Richard Morrell story. Stupid and corny. No wonder Monica's spoiled. It would do her some good to get shoved around by a bank-robber from time to time.
