I passed this course with an 8 on my exam, which is quite a miracle. No shade to my lecturer, but this book is what pulled me through. The overwhelmingly complex formulas are explained in a very clear step-by-step manner, which made statistics not that hard in the end.

One thing that sucks about this book is that only the uneven numbers in the practice questions have the answers at the end of the book, and the answers don't include the computation. More than once I wanted to practice more, but what use is practicing the even numbered questions when you can't check if you got the right answer? And what use are the answers without computations if you get a different answer than the given one, how many times you try again?

This book serves as a clear guide for understanding quantitative methods. It uses reasonable language and memorable examples. Unfortunately, it has an array of mistakes that matter because of the topic's nature.

Thankfully the explanations are (a lot of the time) quite clear and good in this book.

Read for: SS5780 Research and Analysis in Psychology I & II

It's so accessible that most Asian 15-year-olds can follow the book ...but it is indeed helpful, if too beginner-ish.

easy understanding, but if you want a more in-depth statistical approach you have to read a more mathematical or a classical book about statistics.

Recommend for political scientists!

Listen... or Look because you can’t really listen to me...

I absolutely detest math, but this book isn’t as dry and boring as I thought it would be. It provides the information and some really interesting examples to show you how statistics work in the behavioral sciences. Will I use this stuff again? Probably not, but at least I’ll have an idea of how to interpret and understand educational data.

Good foundational statistics textbook for undergraduate statistics courses. I enjoyed teaching from it. Lots of step-by-step examples of working through problems. At times the content seemed a bit dry, and perhaps could have been livened up with more applied examples. However, it was a helpful resource nonetheless as I incorporated it into my course, and my students noted the text was a helpful resource as they learned course content.

The textbook that made me like math. After completing several university level algebra, calculus and stats courses that left me loathing math, this textbook was a breath of fresh air. The content is easily digestible thanks to the straightforward explanations and interesting examples of real world applications. The writers break down statistical tools and procedures into step-by-step processes that make sense logically. Honestly had a really great time with this one.

This is an excellent statistics text with examples from the behavioral sciences, primarily psychology. It is a good resource if you want to understand the theories and formulas behind the analysis performed by computers. The good thing is that you don't need to memorize these formulas because SPSS does all the work for you. You only need to learn how to interpret the data.

This is a great book for beginners. I couldn't bear the obscure language in our course textbook, and gave this a try. I didn't expect such a simple and clear approach to statistics. It covers the basic logic and procedures of common statistical techniques in psychology research, including descriptive statistics, probability, hypothesis testing, ANOVA, correlation and linear regression. I only wish it could talk more about advanced but important topics like Bayesian statistics, the general linear model, ANCOVA, and meta-analysis. Still, it presents a solid foundation of statistics that will help you appreciate more advanced methods.

For my first attempt at educational statistics, this text enabled me to (mostly) wrap my mind around its complexities. I appreciated the chapter beginnings, which put the statistics in context, and the examples throughout were meaningful and helpful. I wish I had access to ALL the problems at the end of each chapter, though, so I could check my work more (I used them for practice). Sometimes I wasn't always clear on the organization (some concepts were mentioned and then much later clarified), but perhaps that is due to my limited knowledge.

This textbook's language was very clear, easy to understand, and provided great exercises to work out some of the material for practice. Highly recommended as a resource for learning statistics applicable to the behavioural sciences.

This is the first math textbook I’ve actually read from cover-to-cover. At times hard to find which appendix you need to use but all the information and examples you may need is in there.
