Neale Donald Walsch is a modern day spiritual messenger whose words continue to touch the world in profound ways. With an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, Neale spent the majority of his life thriving professionally, yet searching for spiritual meaning before beginning his now famous conversation with God. His With God series of books has been translated into 34 languages, touching millions of lives and inspiring important changes in their day-to-day lives.
In addition to authoring the renowned With God series, Neale has published 16 other works, as well as a number of video and audio programs. Available throughout the world, each of the CwG dialogue books has made the New York Times Bestseller list, Conversations with God-Book 1 occupying that list for over two and half years.
The With God Series has redefined God and shifted spiritual paradigms around the globe. In order to deal with the enormous response to his writings, Neale created the Conversations with God Foundation, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to inspiring the world to help itself move from violence to peace, from confusion to clarity, and from anger to love.
Neale's work has taken him from the steps of Macchu Picchu in Peru to the steps of the Shinto shrines of Japan, from Red Square in Moscow to St. Peters Square in Vatican City to Tiananmen Square in China. And everywhere he has gone-from South Africa to Norway, Croatia to The Netherlands, the streets of Zurich to the streets of Seoul, Neale has found a hunger among the people to find a new way to live, at last, in peace and harmony, and he has sought to bring people a new understanding of life and of God which would allow them to experience that."
OMG!! As a practicing Catholic for nearly 50 years, it was such a GIFT to read about the GOD of my heart versus the vengeful, task master, condemning God of the religion I still love. Neale put an actual personality to my God that I've loved and serve and showed me through His words that our God IS LOVE and acceptant and unconditional. Some might disagree with me but let me say this. I wish I would have read this book in the 1969's so I wouldn't have struggled so hard to try and understand my religion of an angry, vengeful, damning God. Reading this book allowed me the peace to love the God I've ALWAYS had in my heart, the God and Father I've always known to love me unconditionally. I've purchased several copies of this book for friends and family in the hopes that they too can read about our perfect, loving, HEAVENLY Father!! Great job Neale, your 'Conversations with God' has transformed my life!
This book could almost make me believe in a personal God. At least this God is intelligent, even funny at times, and wise. He is not mean or in demand of our worship and submission. I recommend this book to anyone alienated from faith, as I am, and seeking to take a second look at the spiritual side.
These books were part in turning my life around and speaks to my soul (read my review under Coversations with God #1), Since reading 'Conversations with god' I've discovered several other books, speaking the same Truth, in different forms, but this book is like a first lover, one that will always have a special place in my heart.
These books speak of a God, or power, or whatever you wish to call it, that is not just wise, but also funny. One that doesnt judge or condemn, but one that is always near, and always willing to help. The kind of God I have always believed in.
If you're a religious fundamentalists, then these truths may be outside your will to accept, but not outside your capacity to embrace. Don't be limited by beliefs you were once told in the past were the only truth then were neglected to be challenged without question. Think for yourself! These books make a lot of sense, but only if one drops their present belief system which automatically labels everything counter it as "wrong". If you're looking for truth, then challenge your beliefs. If you're looking to be "right", then go on believing your beliefs are true just because you agreed to believe them. This book makes sence, but only if the road you follow extends from your inner truth and is lit from the light of your common sense. Don't follow a belief system blindly, discern the truth in the path as you lead. Inner wisdom (which everyone shares) has always been the source of books, not the other way around. This book will help you uncover your own inner wisdom if you look within. Truth is like a river that is always refreshing and never ends, this book will help you step into it.
The best book I've ever read about God. You could debate that the author is crazy for claiming to have had this conversation but you won't find any suggestions that God is full of wrath, extremely judgmental, petty, needs you to kill in it's name nor does he/she/it hate anyone. Sounds awesome to me. I believe that, even an atheist could agree with or, at least, not hate some of the ideas presented in these "conversations" because there is no hate. You're not "wrong" or looked down upon for disagreeing with the idea of any form of spirituality. This type of God is love based rather than fear based. I grew up in a traditional Christian household but became more open mined about who or what I thought God is. I think this book explains everything. At the very least, it has some very interesting, inspiring, empowering and uplifting ideas about God and our existence. I love it.
I bought this some time ago and, to be honest, only read the first book. After that I couldn't read any more. I give this volume a 2-star rating, and here's why:
My boyfriend and I watched the movie together. We saw it in Blockbuster and thought we'd give it a shot. Well, I liked the movie so much that I soon paid $26 for this volume so I could read the words for myself. I was excited... finally, to know what God himself is thinking! I got through the first book and got many headaches and heartaches along the way. This book was very much misrepresented in the movie, for starters. Secondly, it just was not at all what I was expecting. The basic message I got from this book was, "Do whatever you want, as long as it makes you happy. Everyone is going to Heaven anyway." (And Heaven isn't even that great, from what I understand.) It left me feeling that the greatest thing this world -- and the next -- has to offer is temporary happiness. Is that it? Even ferrets are capable of temporary happiness. I thought we were destined for so much more.
In addition, it made God out to be some guy who just doesn't seem to care about the people he created. Sure, he doesn't want them to suffer, and wants them to be happy, but it's not much deeper than that. He doesn't care about what we do or why we do it, or even if we have a relationship with him. As long as we have a good time, learn a few things, and be happy.
So really, I did learn one thing from reading this book. It's just a book, like any other, and if I'm looking for God, he can't be found in a book. Everyone thinks they have the answer. Many people claim that God speaks to them -- yet it's always something different from each person.
So why not give this book only one star instead of two? Honestly, because so many people have at least accepted the idea of God from reading this book. Accepting that there is a God is a very good first step. Hopefully, people will eventually be led to a greater idea of God than what this book has to offer.
I've read 7 of Neal Donald Walsch's books, and heard him speak 3 times when he's visited England. Of all the many spiritual books I've read these are the ones that resonate with me and make the most sense. Highly recommended
One Thing : Do not waste your time reading the reviews! Just pick up the book and read , read with an open mind, read as if you have never known anything and absorb, absorb every single detail. I read the series two times, its absolutely wonderful !
Reader Beware! Many organized religion attendees have found the ideas and concepts in this book to be blasphemous. Discussions of these concepts may cause arguments with friends and family.
The title says it all, Neale has recorded his communication with God for the purpose of sharing with us the important messages of our day. To believe or not to believe is the question you must answer while reading, the choice is yours. Freewill is our ability to choose and that is what life is about. New ways of thinking and living our lives flood forth from these pages. Sorry, I got a bit biblical there 鈥 anyways on with the review.
Before reading Conversations with God (CWG), I was searching for answers and spiritual meaning to life, love and the universe. Thanks to God and Neale I have some clarity and found that many of my own feelings, thoughts and ideas to be true (or at least shared by others). CWG is easy to read and follow but does require an open mind and focus to grasp the messages within. I have read many of the chapters over an over again, making sure I understood each before moving on. I will now take some time to briefly summarize some of the concepts found in these pages.
My Aunt had nothing but praise for this book, and reccommended that my mom read it. As usually happens, my mom didn't have much time for reading, so she asked if I would read it for her and give her the essential bits.
I started to notice strange things right off the bat, little phrases and notions from the author that seemed anything but congruent with the Judeo/Christian God from the Bible. Never the less, I shrugged it off and continued through the book, but the further in I got, the bolder the author became in stating his blasphemous beliefs- and claiming they were direct from God.
Never the one to shrink from a challenge, I thought I could take some notes, and mark the passages in the book which were incorrect- but after my highlighter died, I realised how pointless the task really was. I quickly came to the conclusion that there simply wasn't enough highlighter ink in the world to bring light to the anti-christic principles in the book.
The author clearly embraces Pantheistic and New-Age beliefs, which are entirely at odds with Christianity. For example, the belief that we are all god, is an incredibly stupid and egocentric idea which is very popular among new-agers, but how does it fit in with what the Bible tells us?
"Hear, o Israel, The LORD our God is one LORD." Deuteronomy 6:4
"Unto thee it was shown, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside Him." Deuteronomy 4:35
"That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else." 1 Kings 8:60
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5
Another common Idea in the book is the thought that we will all go to heaven when we die, regardless of religion or works. Does the author sincerely believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are in heaven? That statement freaked me out as much as the first one, and I'll tell you why. Hidden in the innocent wishful thinking of that idea (who wants to think that people go to hell, it's a terrible place!)
This trilogy completely changed my perspective on every single aspect of my life. It is truly a masterpiece of spirituality that more people need to open. If everyone on this planet read this trilogy, the world would shift in such an unprecedented way that all of our problems would seemingly disappear over night. The key is not getting stuck with the question of whether or not you believe Walsch truly contacted God or not. That isn't the point of this book. For skeptics of this book, I challenge you to forget the foundation of this book. Forget the "conversation" part of it and try to only focus on the messages and insights being offered to us in the text. Then, will you truly be able to take what is said in these words to heart. It is truly a fascinating piece of spiritual text that has changed my everyday life and will continue to be read by me for the years to come. This book essentially explains the core beliefs shared in every "New Age" spiritual book you can find. That is the beauty of it. While I will continue exploring my spirituality, the honest truth is that nearly all of my questions were answered in this trilogy. For the truth is that every question can be answered with one word: Love. And that is the heart of this book. Love yourself, love everyone, love the world. When all of humanity gets to that point will we finally be able to move past our trivial problems and live in a world of true peace and prosperity. If you're even considering reading this book in the slightest, just do it. You will not regret it. That, I guarantee!
I read the whole trilogy over the course of a month.
These recurring spiritual ideas resonated with me:
"thinking 鈥渙utside the box.鈥 They are thinking 鈥渆ither/or.鈥 They might try thinking 鈥渂oth/and.鈥" "The very act of your giving something away causes you to experience that you have it to give away." "You will not have that for which you ask, nor can you have anything you want. This is because your very request is a statement of lack"- scarcity complex versus abundance mentality (don't ask, be grateful because you already have it)
"The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew.... knowledge is conceptual. Feeling is experiential." (what you have is already within; life is the experience to manifest this knowledge)
"It is in not struggling that the process proceeds. It is in surrendering that the victory is won." (what you resist persists because you give it life and truth; lean into it)
"Doing is a function of the body. Being is a function of the soul." (The soul exists and observes; mind--body-soul; the mind creates reality)
"Worry is pointless. It is wasted mental energy. It also creates bio-chemical reactions which harm the body, producing everything from indigestion to coronary arrest.." (negative thoughts are poison you drink)
"Effect is created by thought, and that manifestation is a result of intention." (Law of attraction begins with intention, thought/belief, manifestation)
I cherish the whole conversations with God books, 1,2, and 3. I found the book comforting, enlightening, yet it resounded with me and felt right. I wish all of humanity could read this book, because it teaches us so much. Especially our many endless fears, and how they affect us. You can read this book over and over. Each time you will learn more and take it in literally. Again, this is the best book, in my opinion, that I have ever read in my life. It literally helps to free you. It is very humorous and I found myself laughing out loud many times. God has a great sense of humour! But I guess that shouldn't have surprised me. As we were made in his/her image. It is more than worth the money. I have hard copies and kindle copies in my library. Enjoy your journey through these books:)I love this book.
I tend to stay clear of anything that references God from a Christian point of view. I'm not a fan of that religion, but I like to keep an open mind and well-rounded education of all religious and spiritual beliefs - it's one of my personal passions. My biases aside (I'm not perfect) the book was quite good from a non-Christian, spiritual perspective. It got a little hokey towards the end, which had the effect of making the best parts of the first book a bit less credible, unfortunately. Some of the "answers" to the questions the author asks seem a bit too solid, and others too modern, which left little room to the imagination at times. Still, a valuable book (to take with a grain of salt) to expand one's spiritual awareness or explore an interesting point of view.
This book is a complete GEM. From the very start it draws you in and is a captivating experience. I believe any great philosopher would love and appreciate this book. It is not told in a "must do" tone but one of complete self awareness! I truly loved the experience of this book and the insightfulnees of stepping outside of traditional restraints many relions place on what God is and how we should please him. So if you are open to stepping outside of the traditional into new territory then this book will be a complete wonder for you!
I really liked the first book. The second and third books had some good insights too, but it started to feel pushy and justification driven whereas the first felt genuine.
Book 1 -God will keep sending the same message until we understand -God shows Himself in many ways, man doesn't fully accept any -God doesn't care about the particulars, He wants us to do good and experience joy, we decide how to get joy- for kids imaginary play or tag, neither is right or wrong, either can bring joy -There are only 2 emotions, love or fear. All stems from one or the other -you only have power to change when you say I did this, take full responsibility -becoming like God, it's our destiny, move forward, others will feel threatened or drawn to it, if all accepted it there would be no hatred, if we could all recognize this in others this world would be different -Turn things to love instead of anger, the ego protects, love forgives -give your anger to God, release it no matter what others do to you, story of being stood up on a date -Acceptance inspires growth, criticism kills it, it comes from the ego, can still guide, but do so in love, turn it to God, God will direct your words when it comes from a pure place, not from the ego -Marriage is from either from ego or Holy Spirit, growing in God together, entire world is blessed by healed individuals -if we resent our mothers we will not be able to accept ourselves -Your most basic self is love -We can't accept happiness because we don't think we deserve it. We wrong ourselves far more than others wrong us. -Those who participate in solutions are less distressed about problems -We find threat in others success. Find joy instead. I learned this from a teenager in my neighborhood when we were discussing social media and how others lives aren't be really that good. She said "or we could be happy for them." That is love. We shouldn't play others down to feel better. Love instead. "In Heaven everyone is allowed to be successful." -Change painful perceptions into light and knowledge. -the world is not bad, it's wounded, seek to heal, seek light and love -The question isn't what we've done but instead what we've done with what we've done. -We are afraid of hell, so put ourselves there first- defense, fear -the best leaders aren't the ones with the most followers but the ones who are most effective in inspiring independence -God wants for us what we want for us -You always get what you create and you're always creating -come to a place where others believe you can love them, not want something from them -See all as sacred souls in a sacred relationship -Must see yourself as worthy before you can see others as worthy -you will come to a day when others actions won't hurt you -ask what would love do now? -treating self with dignity, not allowing be abusers is love, love to help them stop their destructive behavior -opportunity not obligation, he talked about the 10 commandments this way too. -There is never harm in treating others as more than you see. Never see them as the enemy. If others feel you see them as more, they will live up to it, including how we see ourselves -Act, say, eventually it will become part of you -being, not doing, that is Spirit, I want to help my kids learn to just be, this is a great problem with technology today.听 I can see why there is a rapid decline in knowing God, we can't know God if we can never sit and be -soul: indicates mind: chooses body: acts -Make a life rather than a living -Jesus thanked God in advance before performing miracles
Book 2 -soul speaks in feelings, sometimes we think we get it wrong because it leads us learning, we label growth- trouble and standing still- safe -Live in the present. Check yourself often. I've heard this many times, but in an interview during "conversations with God" Marianne Williamson was asked a question and told she was good at doing this. It hit me what that really meant and how often I don't do that. -We are not separate.听 We need to function as a whole in society, in families, with anyone. -"There is no wrong, there are only things that don't serve you."听 I agree with the second part.听 I disagree with the first. There is right and wrong. -Guilt and fear are our only enemies.
Book 3 I keep thinking that a lot of these things are true, but you have to be at a certain place in life to accept them.听 We must guide our children on the path of right and wrong.听 Without experiencing true principles what you think you want is what you'll follow but it often won't serve you.听 There is a foundation needed before a lot of these ideas will work.
From all three books -Honor your feelings, don't force them -What your body is doing is a reflection of you're feeling -worry is almost as bad as hate. It is pointless and harmful to the body and mind. -It is very difficult to reverse the effects of negative thinking on the body. It takes an enormous amount of faith in and retraining the mind. -Importance of relationships. Provides life's grandest opportunities. Always helping us to see our next step in growth. -fear is important too -white is presence of all color, not the absence. God and love are presence of all things, all feelings, not absence of them. -fear and love are opposite sides of a circle. We go around and around with them. -decisions will be hard if we think too much. Choices cautious decisions will take forever, see expectations. Expectations are dangerous. They often lead to confusion and unhappiness. I've read this in many sources. -when you speak in love it will rarely be taken in a negative or damaging way. -delivery of a message is the most important. Do it with love. -Harry S. Truman "I don't give them Hell. I just tell the truth about them and they think it's Hell." -The way Christ taught was through empowering people. True compassion empowers individuals, it doesn't do it for them. -I disagree with his idea that we can truly transfer what we learn. Every person must experience life. You can love and try to pass the wisdom along, but they must experience and choose for themselves. -good advice on living in love and peace -natural laws. If you hit someone else with a hammer you're really hitting yourself -when you have found God you don't need to talk about it all the time. You have personal peace. You don't need to push or prove it. You know. -If there is something you want, give it to another. If you want more love, love others. Give it and you'll notice you have it. -Those who experience grief can overcome it. If grief is not felt it will stick. -Chronic depression is repressed emotion. Rage is repressed frustration. Teach children to feel these emotions and work through them themselves and they'll be able to as adults. -Individualism, separateness is the problem. We must start seeing things as a whole. We don't just raise our children. Everyone around us does. Grandparents have great wisdom. Listen to them. -strength comes from connection not individualism -"Act as if you are separate from nothing and you will heal the world" -"Power with, not power over" -God to is experiencing and growing -prayer is the highest form of thought control -A clean strainer is open to use better, but has more holes -We can get out of an experience as much as we want to. We will usually mis out on all it has to offer. Be there. Be in the moment. -What you resist, persists. Spread good. Trust you will be where you need to be. Invite it and it will come. -celebrate and see the perfection. -Mindfulness, silence, finding beauty in all things. -Don't worry about getting, only giving. You will get back what you give. -When technology takes over, we lose. It destroys us, overtakes us. -by creating medicine that the body is intended to to the work to heal, we weaken ourselves. -if communication is present, so is love -when you are something, what you do will spring naturally from this.
Logique. Pur. 脡vident. Profond. Intelligent. Riche.
It took me a while to finish this book, and I think that is due to the fact that the start of the book is just really conceptual and didn鈥檛 bring up any questions that I would have asked God if I ever happened to meet them. I feel like when you read this sort of spiritual literature, you just have to extract the parts of it that feel right, you know? And use these parts to your advantage. That鈥檚 what I鈥檓 gonna do. Going through a rough phase, the book gave me a few really enlightening ideas I am going to keep close to my heart. On the other hand though, I can鈥檛 say it was a pleasant read. I struggled to stay focused and was really annoyed that some parts kept being repeated (making sure the reader understands the explained concept to its fullest). All in all I鈥檇 still say it鈥檚 a good book, and I do not regret reading it. I might read it again in a few years, but I鈥檓 not interested in the following ones, yet.
A beautiful read. Explores an uncommon dialogue as the book title suggests, where the writer writes an angry letter to God, and what follows is an extraordinary conversation between him and his inner source, expressing understandings of life's uncertainties and the big questions we might all at one point ponder.
Even though the title says "God," I wouldn't necessarily consider this a highly orthodoxy read; in the sense that it's targeted at one specific religious belief, but actually explores a variety of known concepts and provides new meanings. Despite this, it's really not particularly a religious book, but more of a philosophical one - exploring wonders of the universe, redefining how we perceive time, love, relationships, sexuality and even if we have a purpose on earth greater than our worldly understandings.
I would recommend this book for a number of reasons: 1 - it's exceptionally uplifting 2 - it's easy to read 3 - it's honest 4 - beautifully written 5 - Changes lives (my own especially)
I had a similar experience and, in my book, "The Destiny and Sign of God" I described the ways to communicate with God directly and personally. Everyone is able to communicate with God if that's what they want ... see details in my book if you're interested
