"My name is Rylee, and I am a Tracker."

But this isn't Rylee's story.

It's mine. Before I lost my ability to think like an adult. Before my body became stuck between wolf and human.

Before I knew the supernatural and Rylee even existed. This is the last of what I remember before becoming a werewolf. . . .this is the last of what's important to me.

And the moments I fought so hard to hang on to.

My name is Alex, and this is my story.

**14k Word Stand alone short story**

Haven't read any of the Rylee Adamson books? This short stands alone and is a great intro to the characters.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.

I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)

Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.

I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)

As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.

Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.

Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.

Aw, Alex. So heartbreaking! This short story was a look into the beloved character that is Alex from the Rylee Adamson series. A submissive wolf who we know is fun, simple and lovable, is also a victim. He was forced into what he is now and while this story gives hope that his future might be looking up, there was something so heartbreaking watching his mind disappear. Everything that was important to him and his youth were stolen away. I seriously hope there is more to Alex for the rest of this series and justice for what was done to him is coming. A must read for fans of this series.

Short but sweet

Good short story showing us Alex's past and how he became a werewolf. I enjoyed seeing things from his perspective. He is one of my favorite characters.

Yuppy doody! thinking of fang face...

Yuppy doody! thinking of fang face...

Scooby Doo has nothing on Alex, best sidekick ever. Better even, than Mouse and Mister. Great fun series, well written, well edited(Thank you!) and well thought out. I'd bet Ms.Mayer went about it like JK Rowling did, writing the ending first, then how it gets there. The heroine, Rylee has a major potty mouth but I'm sure I would too if I had her job.Good character development, like them all, love a bad guy who isn't all that bad and a good guy who isn't all that good, and this story is all about what's good and evil. No malfunctioning relationship writing vehicles. Can't wait for next installment, when they'll be kicking (what Rylee would say) and taking names, again!

Alex is a Rylee Adamson novel short story prequel by Shannon Mayer relating the story of how Alex became a werewolf and met Rylee.

This story is told from Alex's point of view in the 24-hours after he became a werewolf. In that time, he meets Rylee and goes on his first salvage, all while trying to get a mental grasp on what's happened to him as his higher reasoning melts away.

Alex, the ever cheerful, supremely loyal werewolf sidekick, wasn't always the happy-go-lucky wolf we've come to love. But meeting Rylee will change your life, no matter if you're human or werewolf.

I knew from the first page I was going to love this series and it has become one of my favourites. I read it years ago and now I am leaving a review.
Rylee has the best and the worst job, to find those who are lost, the ones no one can find but it is not all sunshine and roses. Sometimes it will break your heart.
It is an intriguing, suspenseful, and mysterious thriller filled with tension. The story includes alliances, threats, betrayal, riddles, and plots, all infused with a touch of humour to keep the pages turning.

4.5* An absolutely delightful novella and a must for anyone who loves Alex. Told from his POV, it describes his transformation an meeting Rylee. Funny, sad and sometimes heart-breaking, it delivers a potent punch in a compact package. More then ever I want to give him a hug. Just great!

“Alex is a short story in Shannon Mayer’s Rylee Adamson Series.

Alex was a human turned into this thing against his will and now he is stuck. Not quiet a human or Wolf, he is a werewolf. But when his maker tries to have him killed he runs into Rylee, who protects him. Now he must do whatever it takes to make sure Rylee doesn’t get rid of him.

Though I haven’t read this series yet as I am slowly going through this books, it’s great seeing how these characters all meet up. I know book one “Priceless in the synopsis it mentions Alex and I am so glad that I was able to read his little story prior to getting to see him and Rylee together.

So thank you Ms. Mayer for writing these short stories for characters that are part of this series.

Alex seems like he is the perfect distraction that Rylee needs especially with the madness effecting Giselle. I can see it now that his and Rylee friendship is going to be epic.

But I am also very intrigued with Agent O’Shea.

Beauty is a bitch in every sense of the word. It’s pretty stupid on her part to go around turning guys she meets at bars in an attempt to find an Alpha. She and her pack would be better off merging with another group of werewolves that already had a strong Alpha.

Seems shitty to me that once Beauty turned Alex she set her pack on him because he was a submissive.

He manages to get away from his pursuers and arrives on Rylee’s doorstep. He convinces her to take him along on a salvage. His memory as a human is rapidly deteriorating but there is something about this particular case that calls to him.

I love a good character POV and I absolutely adore Alex in the series. So it was a special tidbit to get his backstory. It’s also nice to know why his pack is constantly chasing him. I didn’t realize he was so young when his life turned upside down. I’m guessing it’s the Mother Goddess that directs Alex to Rylee and he immediately bonds/imprints with her. As his transition time approaches, he leaves behind the only thing worth keeping in the human world.

It’s definitely chock full of all the feels as we follow Alex on his journey. It’s funny and heartbreaking to say the least. I just wanted to keep him and give him all the cheeseburgers.

An absolute must read... If you have read any of the series at all, then this short story about Alex will help flesh out what has been lacking.

Inn this short, we find out how Alex was turned, who Alex is, and the start of his crucial role throughout the series...

This short touches on Milly, Giselle, O'Shea, Charlie (the Brownie) and Diedra (who's name has popped up in the book's but we don't really know who she is.)

A total 5 star! I read this short after reading the 5th book in the series..

Alex has always been a funny favorite of mine. I always loved the way he answered people. This book dives into how Alex became who he is.

It is an awesome short story that brings the characters really to life. You get a peek at his life as a human and figure out he talks the way he does. I think I the best part is the drawing at the end that shows what Alex would!d look like.

I would recommend this book to anyone reading the rylee series. I did read this out of order and it doesn't really make a difference as long as his character has been introduced.

Interesting back story

I could have taken or left this story. Some backstory is necessary the more you write about a character, but for some characters it's overkill. At this point of the series, we haven't even MET Alex yet, so I found the story confusing & superfluous. Later on I may be thankful for the history of Alex's change, depending on how he's introduced. But right now, it really wasn't worth it. 4â for the writing.

Super

I have been in love with Alex ever since I met him in the first Rylee epilogue I read. He is goofy yes, but so very intelligent and entertaining with it. He is the truest friend you could ever have and has made every story the best. In the last book, Blood of the Lost, I cried more for the loss of Alex I think than anyone else Rylee lost. This series of books has genuinely made me cry.

This is my first introduction to Alex as I’ve just started the Rylee Adamson books and have begun with the novellas. I fell in love with Alex’s character straight away and it’s sad to see him lose a little piece of himself everyday. But I have a feeling that there’s more to him than meets the eye! Intriguing and I’m looking forward to meeting him again during the other books. Short, entertaining little piece of magic!

I really enjoyed this book. I bought the graphic audio version, (just released today), and as always, their production was great. Can't say enough about graphic audio and their amazing productions. Really enjoyed this production of alex. I'm sure I would have liked the story had I read it on Kindle, but the full cast audio just makes it so much better. Fun short story, and one I think any rylee fan would enjoy.

Such a great novella that gave us background on how Alex became a werewolf. I just love him. It was nice that this was told in his POV. It’s kind of heartbreaking to see him lose his memories throughout the 24 hours after being turned, but very insightful. I also liked that Shannon included a sketch. It definitely helped since I’ve struggled with what I thought he looked like!

Great character building!!!

what a fun read. It’s a great short story which gives you the background on how the character, Alex from the Rylee Adamson series became the werewolf we all adore. I wish the story was longer but that’s just because you can’t get enough of this sweet, funny character of Shannon Mayer’s. She never stops amazing me.

Love Alex

Ah Alex, sigh. I think he is my favorite character in this series. He is loyal and loving and has an innocent heart. But he is fierce when protecting those he loves. He is also very, very funny! So happy to read about how he became a werewolf and who he was as a man before he was turned.

In a personal origin story, we get vividly innocent, loving, loyal, funny, fan favorite companion Alex helping Rylee on their first case together. In addition to the beginning of life for the submissive wolf that can’t shift to human and why those wolves keep trying to kill him.
