The charm of Tamil+Malayalam in Jayamohan's writing is not as visible as it is in "Mindachennai"here. Still the story and the interview at the end makes it a worthy read. Its amazing how many stories he is able to dig out and how.
(4.5 stars) I really liked the story. Loved the audio version of it. While JeMo is batting for the Gandhian idealism and wildlife conservation, I sensed a tinge of misanthropy and a bit of phobia on tech and economical growth. That really left a bad taste and I couldnt enjoy it fully.
1. The first Tmail book I read in my life. 2. The depth of writing. Jeymohan can move the reader with his writing. 3. I adore elephants, and this book helped me understand a bit about the challenges they face in this heinous human-dominated world.
JeMo is a wordsmith! Whatey wonderful short story this is! It urges me to read his full stack "Kaadu" novel. A doctor's story - feels so real with JeMo's writing. A fine short tour of forest and a glimpse of elephant and wild life. Sprinkle some philosophy and some hard hitting truth, we have yaanai doctor.
Written by Jeyamohan, "Yaanai Doctor" is a Short story based on Doctor Krishnamurthy aka Doctor K whose techniques of treating wild animals mainly Elephants are used by the Indian Forest department. Reading "Yaanai Doctor" was truly a profound experience for me. It just travels like a Conversation between Doctor K and a Forest officer and I was engrossed in it. Doctor K's Principles and his selflessness made me feel in awe. Everytime he blends his even small tea talk about elephants gave me a lot of new things to learn about those lovely creatures. I loved the last part of the story where he condemns the domestication of Elephants by Indian Temples and Royal Services over the cost of a spectacle. Just like the forest officer, every encounter with Doctor K with the forest beings makes us feel small in the grand scheme of things. The setups and pay-offs are so worth it. Especially the end part where the elephant herd calls for Dr.K brimmed my eyes with tears. In a nutshell, "Yaanai Doctor" is truly a soothing and satisfying short story that emphasizes on being harmonious with nature!

About the Book: Yaanai Doctor (Elephant Doctor) from writer Jeyamohan is a must read short account of a real-life veteran veterinarian doctor who is an Elephant expert. The story is narrated by a colleague who works closely with Dr K who gets instantly admired and later trying his best to get the deserved recognition for the Elephant Doctor.
Review: The reader can easily connect with the narrator and visualize the beauty of wildlife and see how inspirational Dr K is. This short read will make you go to nature and communicate with it.
A magnificent book about a magnificent life! I do wish more people would read this book as it has vital knowledge for all of mankind.Simply written,to the point and yet emotional.
