Jinwoo faces off against the Monarchs for the first time, and while he’s undeniably the strongest hunter in the world, three otherworldly beings prove to be too much for him! But as Jinwoo is about to find out, death means little to the Shadow Monarch, King of the Dead. I am in a state of shock rn. WTF HAPPENED IN THIS VOLUME. WTF WTF WTF. FROM SUNG JINWOOS DEATH TO ASHBORNS BACKSTORY TO THE TRUTH ABOUT THE MONARCHS VS RULERS BEING BECAUSE OF THE ABSOLUTE BEING SEEING IT AS AMUSEMENT TO THE GATES OPENING BECAUSE OF THE RULERS REALISED AFTER USING THEIR TIME RESETTING CUP THAT HUMANS AND EARTH COULD NOT WITHSTAND THE IMMINENT WAR AND BASICALLY CHOOSING TO GIVE MAGICAL ENERGY TO SOME HUMANS (THE HUNTERS) FOR THEM TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO LIVE AFTER THE WAR (VERY THANOS LIKE THINKING) TO JINWOO WAKING UP TO AFTER THE DOUBLE DUNGEON TO ASHBORN GROWING FOND OF JINWOO AND BASICALLY GIVING UP HIS LIFE FOR JINWOO TO RESURRECT😭😭😭 TO JINWOO BEING THE GREATEST FRAGMENT OF BRILLIANT LIGHT! This volume almost had me in tears. Jinwoos dad😭😭 and ashborns sacrifice 😭😭. I am so scared for next volume P.s. THAT NEW SHADOW BELLION IS SUPER COOL
Jin-woo becomes a literal God and now we are going full steam ahead to the end. I loved this series and reading this for the second time in the same year and now let's go and finish the series once again and now let's Keep on Reading.
I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to .
up to chapter 173 (end of main story) + epilogue in a faceoff with the other monarchs, Jinwoo succumbs to his critical injuries and ends up in an illusionary world created by his subconscious where he meets the previous shadow monarch who shows Jinwoo the history of the war between monarchs and rulers as well as the history of war on earth and the ordeal awaiting Jinwoo in the real world. Jinwoo returns to the real armed with the full extent of the shadow monarch's powers and army as hunters all over the world prepare for the final battle with the king of dragons Antares.
spoilers ahead regarding the ending and epilogue Avengers Endgame ahh resolution... and just like with Marvel, it all went downhill from there. whatever happened to the good ol' recovering from destruction and rebuilding strong after war?? but no!! they have to time travel or regress a decade to fix everything. and that too after he's already won the war. because, now listen to this shitass reason (I've lost too many people in this war and I wanna save them all... like barff) and now they just up and undo the last 175+ chapters that a reader has gone through and fixes everything. I don't even wanna waste my breath anymore... the story wasn't memorable, and the side characters were boring or unexplored. apparently even the writer thinks that their story is so unmemorable and insignificant that they can undo all of it in the last 2 chapters where the MMC alone can fix everything (it takes him 30 years but don't worry, he's immortal now, so barely a dent in his ''normal'' life which he can enjoy now cause he's running around playing god). logical plot progression went out the window and it just looks like fan service moments of Jinwoo in high school, meeting his dead friends, and dating. should've left the main story alone and release these chapters not as an epilogue but as an AU (alternate universe) or smth. left a bad taste in my mouth.
When Beru was yelling for everyone to wake up and help jinwoo that scene gave me so many emotions he's such a great shadow he's like a child the way it was jinwoo who got hurt but he felt the pain🥺
Plus BERU CALLING THE MONARCH OF INSECTS A WENCH. iconic 🤣. I thought I was a big jinwoo simp but I'm nothing compare to this cutie.
"I feel like the absolute being was helping neither side to maintain a balance- kinda like light cannot exist without darkness and vice versa. If you think about it, he had created both the monarchs and the messengers so basically his children were fighting among themselves, he probably couldn't take sides. Also, the whole war and conflict was because of the inherent differences between light and darkness, they couldn't help but oppose each other. They needed a reason to fight and the made the absolute being their reason. Did the Dude ask you to fight for his honor or whatever? He was just a silent spectator throughout. The struggle between light and dark is unending- I feel like if he took sides the balance would be destroyed or something..." These words are borrowed from another person, and i agree with this...
I cried when I saw old man previous chairman.
And all this time jinwoo was playing with a restrictions and now he's finally the Monarch of shadows? DAMN!! How much more strong he'd be now.
Beru moi baby cutie pie... idk why but the scene where he asked jinwoo for a permission to have a match with bellion make me smile. He doesn't want anyone else to be so close to jinwoo than him and other shadows asking for special place as well can't believe these cuties are freaking monstrous level in fighting.🤭
Now that Jinwoo's on god-level let's see what happens next. The scene where all the shadow army of previous shadow monarch emerges from the gate DAMN it gave me goosebumps all over I can't wait for it to get animated.

I've seen the complaint and I know it's not perfect (redundant, not very fleshed out etc) but to be honest I think it's still the best in this category of manhwa; The artwork is amazing and the fight scenes etc very great! It kept me engaged throughout and I haven't slept much whilst reading this. I have to agree to some of the critics, hence my rating but I'm a big fan of Solo leveling. I don't think the light novel is better, the anime is lacking to me and so I find the manhwa/graphic novel to be the best of format for this story; well done !

Final Battle Arc & Epilogue: ch167-ch179 listen that ending actually made me sad in a way and i wouldve actually been slightly peeved had it just ended like that so thank god there are side stories so i can expect more😭
that scene with grand marshal bellion and the real shadow army coming to meet jin-woo OMG IF THAT WASN'T SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SCENE?? so beautifully drawn and truly after this manhwa purple and black has to be my new favourite colors <3
also was living for the fact that more of the shadows could talk and just the camaraderie between all the shadows omg🥹🥹 beru challenging bellion to a fight for position of grand marshal and then tusk competing with the dragons for who had the most powerful fire blast BYE it was so funny😭 i love them so much
beru really got so happy about being able to stand on jin-woo's left side stop he's so adorable😭
i died at that smirk😭 tusk you savage LOL
but you know i was actually scared jin-woo would sacrifice himself or his powers so truly im glad that didn't happen🤚 the final battle scenes were literally SO epic the panels really had me in even more awe than usual omg???
i'll never get over how it took 27 years in the dimensional crack to defeat the dragon emperor like omg💀 of everyone jin-woo seriously deserves the biggest break and complete happiness BUT I SWEAR I WAS ABOUT TO CRY WHEN THE LAST OFFICIAL PANEL OF THE SERIES WAS HIM AND HAE-IN LIKE🥹🥹 MY HEART IS SO HAPPY
and then of course ending it with the chibi drawing of jin-woo and the shadows🥺 my heart <3 i love this series too much🫶 ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Although I am giving it only 3 stars🌟, the volume was decent and enjoyable.
We got to see our Shadow Monarch, Sung Jin Woo finally get the life he deserves. A family of his own. 🏡🧑🧑
The art was amazing as usual, if not better (and better every new volume).
However, I did feel like that ending was.. very unexpected. I won’t explicitly state it in case of spoilers but it felt like the plot twist ending kind of erased all the past events and challenges Jin Woo went through. They are still there but they’re also not. I don’t hate it but I just felt like it could have been done differently with a better ending.
Since the mid-point of this manhwa series I started to realise that all the character development is being given to Sung Jin Woo. It’s amazing. Yet the side characters just pale too much in comparison. It really feels at times that the other characters are just there, like inanimate statues unless to boost Jin Woo’s image or story. While that is the purpose of some side characters specifically.. it would be best if a good number of them developed as well as the story progressed and I did not see this. I was holding out on the manhwa hoping to see it before it ended. It has ended and it hadn’t shown improvement among its side characters. Fine, not a dealbreaker. But it does take away that extra star. 🌟
Nonetheless, a great manhwa series and I so look forward to season 2 of the anime being released. My most anticipated of 2025, in fact!
Note to Self Volume 12: Chapter 159 - Chapter 168/179 Side Story: 1 - 21/ Chapter 180 - 200
It took me from 2 November - 24 November to finish the whole of the remaining series, which is essentially Volume 12 together with the Side Story chapters.
However, I read Volume 12 in its entirety excluding the Side Story from 2 November - 12 November.
This was overall one impressive manhwa, this story will stay with me for a long time. It sent shivers down my spine and had me laughing and crying, even had me connect with Beru, all time favorite insect. I have yet to finish epilogue, but the real story ends here... This has become one of my favorite stories in a short amount of time... Thank you, Chugong!
SOLO LEVELING MANHWA ( VOL. 1-12 ) by Chugong, Dubu (Redice Studio) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 stars
Easily the fast paced manhwa I read and get to enter on my favorite spot this year. Full of action and adventure. This is your average from nobody to hero type story.
The main character, Sung Jinwoo branded as “The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind" trained himself to become a powerful hunter after a terrible incident that almost claimed his life. Leveling himself while raiding dungeons as he climbed up to the top ranks of the hunters as "The Strongest Hunter."
This is a highly addicting story. I love the characters, Jinwoo and his shadow army, especially Commander Beru who is sooooo freaking cute... I can honestly see the good vibe that these characters brings out as I read the manhwa. Also, I can see now why this series is all hyped up everywhere. It's amazingly good from start to finish!
This is a contradictory volume where a lot and almost nothing actually happens. A sort of dream sequence reboot, flashback, exposition sequence takes up most of the pages. Here the author smooths out the storyline and fractured narrative. However, the stakes, powers, and creatures involved are a bit hard to fathom. Glad that things are moving towards the finale. Summary: A confrontation with three Monarchs overwhelms Sung Jinwoo. That moment allows him to break from the system and meet the original King of Shadows where Jinwoo accepts the choice to fight. The mega gate above South Korea opens and Ashborn's army ledges loyalty to Jinwoo.

Jinwoo is losing his battle against the Frost and Beast Monarchs, but the consequences of pushing him to the brink of death will alter the course of humanity's survival, draw forth unfathomable powers on both sides, and set the stage for an apocalyptical invasion. Chugong delivers a gargantuan entry, full of stunning revelations and a brilliant scope to keep fans thoroughly on the edge of their seats. What awaits the man of shadows when the shadow of death overwhelms him?
i don't know what kind of ending i was expecting but definitely not this. if we can call it a plot twist, it was surely plot twisting.
anyway, i enjoyed the whole manhwa, especially that i currently have A LOT of tests and exams, so it was a nice escape from reality. it wasn't life changing, groundbreaking or anything like that, but it was nice, interesting and kinda addictive.
i have a soft spot for isekai, sns, i need more of it.
