For almost a century, the Realm’s most deadly assassin, Chalton Reese, has left war and death in the past, turning instead to strategy, reason, and technology. His fingers, still stained with blood, now protect with a keyboard instead of a weapon. Until the vampire king sends him on one more mission; to hunt down a human female with the knowledge to destroy the Realm. A woman with eyes like emeralds, a brain to match his own, and a passion that might destroy them both—if the enemy on their heels doesn’t do so first.
The Hunted
Olivia Roberts has foregone relationships with wimpy metro-sexuals in favor of pursuing a good story, bound and determined to uncover the truth, any truth. When her instincts start humming about missing proprietary information, she has no idea her search for a story will lead her to a ripped, sexy, and dangerous male beyond any human man. Setting aside the unbelievable fact that he’s a vampire and she’s his prey, she discovers that trusting him is the only chance they have to survive the danger stalking them both.
New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti has published more than seventy novels and novellas, which have been translated into several languages, with millions of copies sold world-wide. Her books have received Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus starred reviews, favorable Washington Post and New York Times Book Reviews, and been included in Amazon best books of the year.
Rebecca has ridden in a locked Chevy trunk, has asked the unfortunate delivery guy to release her from a set of handcuffs, and has discovered the best silver mine shafts in which to bury a body…all in the name of research. Honest.
This book was just okay for me. Chalton was okay for me. I really liked the little bits of him I got in all the other books but in this one he was a little flat. I liked Olivia but she didn't really stand out to me. And Chalton and Olivia together was just blah. The whole I like you but I will mate for life your bf because she is dying but lets sleep together now thing just didn't work for me. I also would have loved to got more of a peek at past couples.
So, after the story of Kayrs brothers and their closest friends which served as the backbone of “Dark Protectors series, the story of the three Reese brothers follows. The three vampire brothers are presented in three short novels from the 1001 Nights series:
1. Teased for Chalton Reese 2. Tricked for Jared Reese 3. Tangled for Theo Reese
Chalton used to be a deadly assassin for most of the 300 years of his life, until he had enough. So for the last 100 years he has been transformed into a computer geek. It’s also been 100 years since the last time he saw his two brothers. When their roads were separated, Chalton started working for the Realm. On the other hand his two brothers continued being paid assassins.
In this book the Realm/vampire king sends Chalton on a mission that involves mostly hacking and research. He has to discover the journalist who threatens to expose the secrets of the Realm. She doesn’t actually know who she is messing with and who the real source behind these revelations is.
Olivia has been always looking for the truth. This time, she is really determined to discover what the secrets behind the research of a specific laboratory are. What the extra chromosomes mean? The life of her best friend may depend on it.
Chalton is about to discover his feisty mate-to-be and to be reunited with his family under a common threat.
Ok, I admit that nerds especially the ones that are also warriors are my weakness. I love every story that it written with such a male character as a leader. Thus, I loved Chalton and I also liked his weird family.
BUT I really do not like heroines with a low self-esteem. Especially the ones that keep repeating how unattractive they are; while the heroes are keep reassuring them about their beauty. Thus, I had problems accepting Olivia. Plus there is the fact that she has been too stupid to live too many times. I think she is the main weakness of the novel.
Teased by Rebecca Zanetti From the Dark Protectors world, book 7.5. This is the first of three brothers written for the 1001 Dark Nights as stand-alones. Best read if you are at least a little bit familiar with the world building. This is Chalton’s story of finding his mate who is an enhanced human female. You meet both brothers who get their own books in Tricked and Tangled.
Humorous, sexy and a quick daring adventure. I won’t include spoilers but loved the reason behind the whole event. Aka the manipulative story source. I can’t wait to read the two brothers stories. This one was really fun.
Rebecca zanetti's Dark protectors series from 1001 dark nights is a world of some of the hottest alpha vamps I've read!!! In Teased we have chalton Reese ex assassin now computer hacker and technology expert and Olivia Roberts a journalist who's been stirring up trouble with her articles about a special species (vamps).Charlton is sent to find out who her source is and to get Olivia to stop with her articles,but when these two come together their chemistry is off the charts and no matter how these two try to fight it between a match making king and queen to brothers Theo and Jared and the informant Charlton's mother these two are destined to be mates!!! If you love totally hot,sexy take charge alpha's who know how to rock your world,check out this series! Can't wait to read the rest of this series!!! P.s. a mad vampire is so friggin hot!!
It was such an absolute treat to return to the Dark Protectors universe. This series is and will probably always be my number one PNR go-to set of books. Rebecca Zanetti has crafted such a diverse and unique set of characters and story-lines with the original series of books that as a reader you are constantly kept on your toes and emotionally invested in each and every continuation that now comes along, whether it be spin-off series based on other character groups or additional novellas like Teased that give you a welcome return to the Realm, with secondary characters from the initial books.
"I'm a guy who gets the job done, no matter the job. Work with me... It's your only option."
Rebecca pitched the alpha male, and the feisty female perfectly with Chalton and Olivia, Chalton isn't one for going on missions so much himself anymore, and has spent the last few decades firmly ensconced with his computers working behind the scenes at the Realms underground headquarters. But when the King asks, who is he to refuse.
"We all need saving once in a while."
Olivia as a reporter has been given information in relation to the special chromosomal differences between humans and vampires, and although she doesn't have all the facts or details in relation to the research, her published articles are proving to hit a little to close to the mark for certain factions in the Realm. As you would expect the chemistry between this pair flares quick and burns hot, and once again Rebecca's sexy-times leave your Kindle a little hot under its protective cover!
"I'll take the night... Without sleep."
What Chalton first expected to be a quick in/out mission turns into so much more when the Kurjans and other enemies start to pop up wherever he and Olivia are, not to mention the timely reappearance of his brothers; Theo and Jared after a century of silence.
"You're my brothers, and I carry you with me at all times."
I could go on, but I won't. If you have read any of the previous books in this series you know what to expect, and you will not be disappointed. If you are a reader new to this author and are picking up one of her books for the first time, well I can only say 'welcome' you are in for one hell of a (joy)ride!
I am pretty sure this is not the end of this little revisit to the Realm, Jared has a story to be told, its beginnings are visible in Teased and knowing Rebecca, I would bet money that Theo won't be far behind.
ARC generously provided via Inkslinger PR, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.
I forgot all about this series and these novellas sat waiting on my Kindle. This was an action packed novella and a good intro to Chalton's two brothers.
I wasn't overly fussed on Olivia, I really have no tolerance for TSTL and Olivia trying to project the badass ninja warrior vibe? Total fail. 🙄
Chalton and Olivia were pretty good together. I thought this was a good short novella added to the end of a series. Now I am hoping Rebecca Zanetti will continue the series.
Another great one from Rebecca Zanetti. It was short, but full of action and introduced us to Chalton's family. We will see his brothers again and RZ set up the next book nicely at the end.
Overall series review: Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Insta-love, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book.
I really had to reach far back to remember who Chalton Reese was in the prior books. There has been minimal mention of the assassin in the prior Dark Protector series, but not enough that his name jumped out at me.
In this installment, Dage (the King of the Realm) orders Chalton, to find a journalist named Olivia Roberts because she may have uncovered information concerning the Realm and most importantly, a clue to who their leak might be.
In the typical Dark Protector fashion, there is an instantaneous attraction between Chalton and Olivia but because this is a novella, the romance was a fast development. That’s the only real downside to reading short stories about relatively new characters, everything happens in a blink of an eye.
With that said, Rebecca Zanetti is one of my favorite authors and her writing NEVER disappoints. Her heroines are strong, smart and resourceful. Her heroes are definitely alpha males, but they are also sweet and sexy, even for a computer geek like Chalton. I enjoyed this book and I am glad we got a tiny peak of what Dage and the Realm had been up to since Janie Belle saved everyone.
If you are a follower of the Dark Protector series, this book falls right in line with the prose you are acquainted with. If you aren’t familiar with the series, this isn’t a good starting point. While the author does a good job of giving background to this world, this series should be read in order starting with Fated, Dark Protector Book 1
The computer whiz of the Realm, Chalton, is sent out on a mission to stop the articles that leak information on his kind, and finds Olivia, a sassy reporter determined to get to the truth and protect her source.
Turns out that Chalton is not the only one after Olivia, and her other pursuers are happy to silence her permanently, but Chalton saves her life and takes her to a safe house. There, he tries to convince her to give up her source and give in to the attraction between them, even if only for one night.
Eventually it is revealed that , and the couple gets their happily ever after.
I had forgotten how much I enjoy this world, and I'm looking forward to Ronni and Jared's story next in .
I love Rebecca Zanetti!! It was so amazing to get to read another Dark Protectors book. I loved Chalton and of course it was great to see Dage again. I can't wait to read books about his brothers!

REVIEW: TEASED, a paranormal romance storyline by Rebecca Zanetti, is the December 2015 entry into the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights novella series, as well as Rebecca’s DARK PROTECTORS series. This is Realm assassin Chalton Reese, and journalist Olivia Roberts storyline. TEASED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Chalton and Olivia) TEASED follows Chalton’s hunt for the human female trying to ‘out the supernatural world. Chalton has been assigned, by King Dage Kayrs, to locate the woman responsible for releasing secret information about the possible existence of another species. What ensues is a cross country journey wherein Chalton realizes Olivia is his mate but not before the Kurjans, and Chalton’s brothers focus their sights on Olivia, as well.
TEASED, like the name implies, is a little tease involving Rebecca Zanetti’s world of the Dark Protectors. With the introduction of Chalton’s two brothers, there is the potential for two more storylines (perhaps novellas) especially one that may involve Chalton’s brother Jared, and Olivia’s best friend Ronni. Ronni is dying, and Olivia is hoping to save her BFF anyway she can.
Rebecca Zanetti pulls the reader into a fast paced, suspense filled, action packed novella that sees another vampire finding his mate. There is a little bit of sex, humor, fear, and the push and pull that only Rebecca writes with dueling mates. The familiarity and connection to the original series comes with the cameo appearance of King Dage and his mate Emma. The premise is entertaining and intense; the characters are fun and charismatic; the romance and $ex is a quick build to a happily ever after-but then again, in Rebecca’s world of the vampire falling in love is always immediate and fierce. TEASED is a welcome addition to the Dark Protector series.
I have been waiting for Chalton to get his story and I'm glad that it's finally happened. The Realm’s most deadly assassin, Chalton Reese is just as skilled with a weapon as he is with a keyboard but he put down his weapons to wage war from a keyboard. When the Realm's secrets are in danger of being revealed by an ambitious journalist, Chalton is the only person the King can trust to unearth the traitor and contain the situation. What is expected to be a quick and easy mission becomes anything but when enemies and other interested parties make their presence known, including Chalton's brothers whom he hasn't seen in about a century.
Olivia Roberts's career as a journalist is very ideal because she's very nosy and persistent and when the secrets she's privy to have the potential to save her best friend's life, she is willing to go to any lengths to make that happen. But she doesn't expect her well-being to be threatened nor does she expect the sexy and lethal male who comes to her rescue and makes her burn for him, but he's the only one she can count on to keep her safe.
This was a fun ride from start to finish, with a feisty and smart heroine, a brooding and dangerous hero, danger, suspense, humor and a romance on the go. Chalton is logical and controlled and it's only fitting that he gets his world upturned by a woman who is his direct opposite in temperament. When you add a matchmaking mama, a long-overdue reunion among brothers and a revenge plot, you get a fast and action-filled book that can't be put down until the very last word. I only wish that there was more, especially about his background and the exploits that made him the greatest assassin ever.
While TEASED can be read as a standalone, I do want to say that to get the full picture of Chalton, it's best to read the previous books in the series.

A short story about Chalton Reese on a mission sent by Dage Kayrs to hunt down a journalist who is writing about his species and find her source which ended up a mother trying to reunite her sons who hasn't spoken for a century due to a fight they had. The brothers, Theo, Jared and Chalton met and became close again. Good ending. Very nice story. Happy ending for Chalton Reese and his brother mating someone out of the blue for a noble reason. I wonder if Jared Reese will have a book with his new mate. Let's see.
Love the Dark Protectors series, I have re-read all of the books a billion times. I was excited to read this novella and quite enjoyed it. Great humour, steam, and plot. Seeing some of the old characters while experiencing new ones was also a treat :)
I would have give this book 4 stars if h was not so annoying. I got she had to protect her sources, but her stubbornness annoyed me. And H was totally alpha-male, as he said to h, “Thanks for the fair warning. Here’s one back. Every time you swear at me, every time you physically attack me, and definitely every time you try to kill me...I’m going to kiss you until you stop. How hot!
I really liked this book. Chalton’s character has been so mysterious and basically an enigma for many books now so I was so excited to go further into his character. And I’m pretty happy with what went down in this book. I just wish it would have been longer so I could have stayed longer with these characters and their story.
After reading this book, I’m really excited to jump into the next one! Bring on Jared and Ronni’s book!!
Ugh, was it just me or did the chemistry feel so freaking forced?
Teased was a meh kind of novella for me. I have had my ups and downs with the 1001 Dark Nights series and I just pray that I don't start giving one stars out. The only good thing about these books is that they are so easy to fly through. It just sucks donkey balls when they are completely boring or un-interesting.
In it, you will meet Chalton and Olivia. Both were okay by themselves.. but ugh, so dull when they were together. I didn't get any chemistry from them whatsoever and they also made zero sense to me. I couldn't ship them together because they made my brain hurt so much. Ugh, I'm just glad that it's over and done with.
Une nouvelle dans l'univers des Dark Protectors que j'ai mis bien trop de temps à commencer : légère, sexy et amusante, une histoire parfaite pour se détendre avant la rentrée (j'ai hâte de lire l'histoire des deux autres frères =D)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A novella in the Dark Protectors universe that I took way too long to start : light, sexy and fun, a perfect story to relax before the start of the school year (I can't wait to read the story of the two other brothers =D)
I don't even know where to start from! This novella included everything!
A feisty, strong and very clever heroine, a dark, brooding and extremely tempting hero, the palpable attraction between them, so much action right from the beginning, vampires, shifters, Kurjans (I had no idea what that was, either, before reading this story), passion and a great ethical dilemma the heroine had to go through.
But, let's get first things first...
Olivia is a journalist that has stumbled across a potential discovery that could prove extremely beneficial for her best friend Ronni who is gradually dying of a heart disease. Her source has claimed the existence of another species, more evolved and quite stronger, with 30 pairs of chromosomes on their DNA, instead of the normal 23. But, her information has threatened too many important people, resulting in her being hunted by humans, vampires, shifters and the aforementioned Kurjans!
Chalton, a vampire who has previously been involved in too many wars, to the point that is now sick of guns and prefers to work behind a computer, has been sent by the King of the Realm in order to protect Olivia until he finds out who her secret source is. His mission changes slightly when the young woman he is after proves to be tempting him in more than one ways! After finding out both of his brothers are also after Olivia, though, things start getting complicated.
And, what about Olivia's dilemma? Is Ronni, her sick best friend, going to be saved only by mating with Chalton? And, how are the two heroes going to take this fact, if that's the case?
A terrific story that doesn't let the reader feel bored, not even for one second! The action keeps getting more and more intense, through the novella!
A fantastic read, that is a part of the Dark Protectors series, and only left me completely tempted to start these series, too!
All in all, 5 stars to a novella that more than tempted me to read the rest of the series, as well as other works by the author!
