Q:
‘The key is deciding beforehand, Andy explains. ‘It lies in being psychologically aggressive with yourself and consciously seizing the initiative. That way you take control of the situation and impose your will on the task rather than letting whatever it is you’re doing dictate your mental state.
‘Stick with it and after a few goes you’ll find that being average actually feels great and that what feels even better is when you start to notice other people “trying too hard. There’s nothing more uncool!
‘In the Regiment you’re taught from Day One to be the grey man. To not stand out in a crowd. And you know what, Kev? Forget the licence to kill. There’s nothing more liberating than the licence to bore the shit out of someone!
(c)
Q:
WHAT YOU DO
Become a gamer
WHAT IT DOES
Fiendishly clever research shows that symptoms of PTSD may be tempered by playing the video game Tetris right after experiencing a traumatic event. Sounds bonkers but not only is it true, the logic is water-tight. Here’s how it works.
On the one hand, biologists studying the phenomenon of neuroplasticityfn2 have discovered that memories are ‘consolidated or laid down in the brain over a period of approximately six hours. On the other hand, cognitive scientists have demonstrated that the brain’s capacity to consolidate memories is limited.
Put the two together and it follows that an intensive mental task such as Tetris should, if played in the ensuing aftermath of a bad experience, successfully compete with the formation of negative images and thereby disrupt the development of traumatic flashbacks.
Of course, this doesn’t just apply to bad experiences. It works for any experience. So if the evils of work are preying on your mind and you want to keep them firmly on the other side of your front door, then why not get your tablet out on the train home?
‘Who’d have thought it? laughs Andy. ‘A tablet to block memories rather than enhance them!
(c)
Q:
Put the kettle on
WHAT IT DOES
Napoleon Bonaparte once quipped: ‘The reason I beat the Austrians is they did not know the value of five minutes.
Horatio Nelson made a similar observation: ‘Time is everything; five minutes makes the difference between victory and defeat.
And it’s true!
It’s amazing what you can get done in five minutes if you allow yourself to.
‘And it’s also amazing just how many five-minute periods there are in a day! laughs Andy. ‘It’s good discipline, five minutes. Sometimes, I lay my boring paperwork chores out on the kitchen table bills, expenses, that kind of thing put the kettle on, and aim to polish them all off by the time it boils. It’s a little game I’ve played for years, and I’ve always beaten the whistle.
‘But it’s also a great workout for the mind. Keeps you fit and flexible. Brain cardio, I call it.
Good advice that, from Andy. Because once, like him, you start to get five-minute-fit, you begin, quite literally, making short work of everything.
So why not put the kettle on and give it a try?
‘After all, says Tea Boy, ‘what have you got to lose? At the very least you’ll get a brew out of it!
(c)
Q:
Just do it.
WHAT’S IT TO YOU?
Research shows that procrastination uses up valuable mental resources, and, a bit like leaving the lights on in the car, constitutes a subtle drain on battery power. So next time you find yourself putting off filing that report:unchain your inner psychopathjumpstart your motivationtoughen your resolve
and ask yourself this: since when did I need to feel like doing something in order to do it?
‘I can honestly say, comments Andy, ‘that the only time I ever feel like doing something is when I’m actually doing it. The decision to do it is always cold and clinical.

It is a good sequel, however i think it should have a different name due to the title clearly saying it's basically a psychopaths advice but rarely mentioning it. I am aware that Andy is one but it's not as effective as the first book. it wont ever be as iconic as the first book.

4/5 fiindcă are un limbaj mult prea simplu.

Looking to nail an INTERVIEW?
Want to make a better first impression on a DATE?
Trying to make your MONEY go further?
Bet you never thought being a bit more PSYCHOPATH could be the answer.
Time to grab that bullsh*t by the horns!

unlike the first book this one is shorter and more of a field guide on things that you should follow If you want to get the most out of your life. as it says in the book quite a few well enough people read the first book and struggled a little so this field guide is more for them. and it works really well I still use what I learned in the first book and no doubt I will use what I've learned in this book also as it elaborated on a few things making them a bit more stream lined and clearer to follow. it's a great read and a very well written field guide I would recommend this for anyone having troubles in life or at school or at work or college and dont have the time to sit and read the bigger first book which id still say when you have free time read it because theirs things in both of these books that can be used anywhere and that's why it's so helpful and i really think it deserves more eyes on it then it has gotten so if you don't have the time pick this book up and give it a go and see if you can get the most out of your life.

Average book full of tidbits and scientific articles without reference. It's like a book composed of Twitter status updates. Some 4 quadrant, 4 words graphs also thrown in to fill some space on the page, such as axis x Attitude(no attitude and attitude) and axis y Skill(high skill, low skill) : 4 quadrants from top right, clockwise = winner, potential winner in the making, forget it, runner-up. Seriously? Somebody needs a graph for that? Just feels like the info in this book has already been digested and you're left with... Umm... Highly processed material with extremely little nutritious value. There are some golden nuggets, hence the 3 star rating, but you could easily sum them up in 20 A4 pages max. Also full of British slang and references

The dictionary definition of a psychopath is a mentally unstable person especiallya person having an egocentric and antisocial personality, so I was intrigued to see where this popular book was going.

I found the links to actual psychopathy tenuous to say the least and it's more a book about mindfulness and stoicism, which was a relief in a way because it wasn't the toxic alpha male barrage I was expecting.

It's not necessarily a bad book, I just didn't get anything out of it. A positive would be the comedic structure in which the book is formatted. There are some funny stories and metaphors.

This book is the Shangri-La for those who yearns do to well in business and in work.
It does highlight some tips on relationships but the main focus of this book
is simply to acquire the skills that you need to increase productivity,
manage time well, and to learn the art of persuasion. (Business stuff to
make it short). Its also very straight forward and for those who find "curse" words
and bad inside joke rather disparaging, you might not want to take it personally.
Imagine yourself training in the military camp. That's how set fire this book is.

Wouldn’t recommend it. Slang, some info, hence the double stars, but had the impression it was written over the course of a month, 4 weekends of bar tales. Kevin is clearly idolizing Andy and it came of as self promotion more than hints to help you out. Could’ve easily been wrapped in 10-20 pages. Easy to read, if you don’t mind some English slang. But a lot of other books that have more valuable content are out there.

I didn’t enjoy this book at all. There were a ‘few pearls of wisdom and good points to take away, but I really disliked the writing style. There were too many irrelevant stories and jokes ... and I get that’s the point and the authors were aiming for something a little more quirky or ‘real....but it just wasn’t for me. I wouldn’t read anything else by them or recommend

Doar daca cineva doreste sa citeasca tot, atunci...

Great book reflecting on the every day life of social situations and career obstructions. Like the book mentions, "Sometimes bullshit can get you to the top, but it won't let you stay there."

Worthwhile to read.

"Since when did I have to feel like doing something in order to do it?" - a useful little question this book now has me asking myself every time I'm procrastinating ...well, not every time! I still haven't finished my decluttering! ;-)

A good, short, sharp reinforcement of things most of us already know, but seldom use.

Some nice, entertaining anecdotes usually by, or at the expense of, "Andy McNab".

This is a simple / humorous self-help book.

Some of the points made in this book were very good, but I don't know how much of it will stay with me and whether I’ll ever use any of the strategies described.
