Jessica's Ultimate Guide to Relationships. (How not to date someone who acts like a crazy coward)

2 Stars

* Warning I am going to Rant there will be spoilers*

Signs you might be dating someone who acts like they are a crazy coward

1. They are like 2 different people

Does your boyfriend or girlfriend smile, crack jokes , and laugh one minute and then rip your head off the next?

2. They are fearful of being with you

Does your boyfriend or girlfriend run from you, push you away constantly, and do they show fear at the thought of being with you?

If so chances are good your are dating a someone who acts like a crazy coward!

“Don’t love me, Nicolas. Don’t do that.

WTF Really? I love Christine Feehan and I am a total fangirl, but I gotta keeps it reals. I can't stand Dahlia. OMG she drove me fuckin crazy. She is suppose to be a strong heroine that survived the outside world without any help, and have this kick ass power, but she was one of the biggest Crazy, Coward I have ever read EVAR!!!!!!!!

“I’m still careful. I don’t know how this all happened with you. I try not to think about it too much or I want to run.

This is Dahlia the whole book with Nico:

"I want to kiss you Nicolas." "No Nicolas don't touch me you perv." "Hey Nicolas you wanna look at my boobs" (flashes boobs). "God Nicolas why do you keep looking at my boobs in lust you have a problem you perv". I think Nicolas is so good looking. OH GOD I think a man is good looking I need to run away! Kissing Nicolas on a boat. Wow this is fun Kissing Nicolas on a boat. OH GOD Kissing is scary I have to get away( jumps off the boat into gator filled water!) "Lets make love Nicolas." "Maybe we shouldn't make love Nicolas what if I burn you with my powers?" Making love is awesome ! Fireworks everywhere! Wow 3 times in a row what a beast! "Lets snuggle and sleep." OMG I dream we could be happy and together so now I am scared again and need to run away! "What you love me NO Nicolas you can't love me I am unlovable !" "Awe you are so nice to me Nicolas and it scares me." "Awe you are so supportive and understanding Nicolas. STOP IT I can't trust you and I don't want to depend on you!" ( Makes love to Nicolas many many more times) While making love to Nicolas mid stoke he says "Dahila I want to be with you forever". OMG That is scary! "NO Nicolas we can't be together I am not normal, this is scary and I need to be alone I don't trust you even if your penis is inside of me right now, I can't trust anyone!" "What you love me OH GOD the L word is so scary!" While I push you away lets still have sex like every 10 minutes. " What you want to marry? OK, but I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop and I ain't saying the L word!" (LAST SENTENCE ON THE LAST PAGE OF THE BOOK) "Ok I love you Nicolas but if you are playing with my feelings I will set you on fire!"

“Damn it, Nicolas, I hate to whine and feel self-pity. It’s useless. But I can’t do this. I can’t be with all these people and not overload. How in the world do you think there’s going to be a happily ever after? You’ll have to go your way, and I can’t go with you. And there’s Lily. Her voice broke off and she leaned into him. “I don’t want to read her letter or see her. I don’t. I can’t. She’ll be everything I ever wanted in a sister. Everything I ever remembered, and I won’t be able to have her. I should never have started anything with you. Never.

“Of the two of us, you’re far more afraid of emotional commitment than I am. I may have limits, but at least I put myself out there. You’re so busy taking care that nothing disturbs your perfect tranquility that you’ve forgotten to live your life.- Nicolas

Not only was she a coward with Nicolas and their relationship, but she was clearly Bipolar. One minute making jokes and laughin and the next she was hateful or depressed. I can't even tell you how many times she was rocking her self knees tucked up under her chin just rocking like she was having a break down or curling into the fetal position. Her powers sucked. She would be going on about how she can take care of herself and girl power and all that good shit, yet she couldn't be around anyone because their emotions fed her powers, causing a overload of power that would make her sick. When she was overloaded it caused her to blow fire balls out of herself, setting things on fire , puking, passing out, and having seizures! Really? I am suppose to believe she works for the government, sneaking around stealing important things for them. Yea right. I can see it now she sneaks into an office to steal a top secret file. All of a sudden a guard walks by, he has Hemorrhoids bad, and they are driving him crazy. They are Itching so bad all he wants to do is scratch em but he knows the cameras are watching. He gets irritated and bam she is puking, or fire balls are blowing up everywhere. Really I sure no one will notice right! Pfff whatevs!

When you discover you are in fact dating someone who is a crazy coward the best course of action is to end the relationship.

Poor Nicolas! I like him a lot. He is the silent stone cold type. He tries so hard with Dahlia, that somewhere along the way he turns into a kicked puppy. The whole relationship is him being super supportive, sweet, while begging her to stay with him and give their relationship a try. Which just fed my Hate for Dahlia all the more she took this strong sexy man took all his dignity and turned him into a beggar.

“Don’t do this, Dahlia, he whispered against her neck when Kaden made his way off the roof. “Stay with me. I know it isn’t easy, but we can find a way.

“Don’t try to run out on me, Dahlia,

“Do you have any idea how pathetic I sound, Dahlia? This is classic role reversal. Women beg men to talk about relationships. Men never want to talk relationships. You’re supposed to want this conversation.

Dahlia, don’t go so far away from me. Nicolas made his tone as intimate as possible. I know you’re tired and upset, and you have every reason to be. If you want to toss your job with the NCIS, I’m behind you all the way. Just don’t put me in with the rest of them.

The only thing I enjoyed about this book at all is the boys. When the Ghostwalkers got together there is such a cute and funny comradery that I couldn't help but love those parts of the book. Which is why this book is a 2.5 star book instead of a 1 star. The guys are the only thing that kept me from smashing my kindle against a wall! I will say that the first time Nicolas and Dahlia have sex was hott, but I didn't enjoy it as much because she was trying to run out on him the next minute. I get that she had a hard life. I can understand some fear and mistrust, but when it is taken to a point of extreme it's just annoying. I can even understand that her powers would make anyone depressed but damn she just kinda had the give up on life attitude. I hate that! Just like I can understand Nicolas going slow and being so understanding to a point, but when he is pleading with her to stay the whole book it's time to cut your losses and find someone else. She so isn't worth it. I am so disappointed with this book. I hope the next one is better. God let the next one be better! Below I leave my favorite moment. No surprise it's with the guys.

"I know you’re holding a gun on me, Nico, Gator’s voice called from the front room. “Put it away. It’s not very nice when I’ve been so hospitable. Suddenly Gator was framed in the doorway, grinning at them, his black, unruly hair tumbling into his face and his piercing blue eyes bright with laughter. “Oh, I see you are most friendly with each other. And Lily was so worried. He turned his head. “Ian, Tucker, come look at this. Our man has found himself a little kitty cat. “Shut up, Gator, or I’m going to shoot you. Nicolas put the gun away and looked down at Dahlia. She had the covers pulled up to her chin. Her eyes were enormous and getting bigger by the moment as more GhostWalkers crowded into the doorway to gape at the sight of Nicolas, the loner, in bed with Dahlia. “And you said he didn’t know what to do with a woman, Tucker Addison accused the tallest of the group, Ian McGillicuddy. “I stand corrected. Ian gave Nicolas a small salute. Dahlia made a small distressed squeak. Nicolas picked up the gun. “I’m going to start shooting if the lot of you don’t get out and close the door.

Reread during August and September:

I listened to this at night on Audible and I had to keep rewinding it because I would fall asleep. It's not an idea way to reread a book. It feels very disjointed. I did love experiencing the book again. Dahlia and Nico are two of my favorite couples, although I really love them all to varying degrees. Dahlia is really feisty and I love that about her. Nico is so controlled, but not with Dahlia, and it's kind of funny, especially when the team sees him being so goofy about her, which is very unusual for him. I wish I had my paperback, but it's in Texas. I will have to pull it up on my Kindle to reread my favorite parts. :)

**
Reread in the Month of July, 2016 (Buddy Read with Lacy--she's still on the first book. :)

My thoughts:

I love Dahlia and Nicolas together. They fit together. Both of them so isolated from others and yearning for connection and significance. Dahlia is feisty and doesn't take crap. She can handle a tough, scary guy like Nicolas. He fell like a ton of bricks, which is how I love my heroes. The action was on point as usual, and the romance was luscious. I love the scene where Dahlia calls Nicolas on staring at her breasts (because of the psychic connection, she could feel it). That as priceless.

I just fall more and more in love with these books. Each reread is a new horizon in my discovery and love for them.

****Thoughts on Reread from May 10-May 13, 2012

I was very intrigued with Nico from Shadow Game, for his dark, lethally dangerous, very controlled aura, and how he seemed to fade into the shadows. I thought he'd make for a very good hero in his own book. His story lived up to his potential, both the first and second times.

Nico--

I like his controlled, ice cool persona, but also how Dahlia penetrates through his icy facade when no one else does. I also liked how he was very smitten with her early on and wanted to find a way for them to be together. He was protective and caring for her, but he realized that Dahlia was an independent woman, and he respected that about her. Even though she was going to go do her job, he was waiting for her in the shadows, there to protect her. I saw growth in his character from Shadow Game, or at least an expansion of his dimensions. He isn't or will ever be gregarious, but I was able to see how important Dahlia, the GhostWalkers, and Lily are to him. I also appreciated his dual background as Lakota and Japanese. I very much appreciate Asian main characters, and Nico whets my appetite for more!

Dahlia--

Dahlia is tough as nails. Despite her considerable disabilities, she manages to live a productive life. I certainly wouldn't want her abilities, with the horrible cost that comes with them. I can see why she feared she couldn't have a future with Nicolas, but I was very glad that they were able to work it out. Nico wasn't going to give up on her, and she needed someone to believe in after what Whitney had done to her, and the half-life she'd been living. I like that she also has depth as a character. Not a stereotype, but a full-fledged person. She's beautiful and delicate in her looks, but highly agile, and very strong for what she's dealt with her in life. I like that she doesn't back down from a challenge, and can handle a somewhat commanding man like Nico. I was very glad to revisit her character, and I hope she shows up again in Sam's book.

Overall Thoughts--

Great sexual chemistry, and otherwise. I loved the interchanges between Nico and Dahlia, and between them and the other characters. I loved how the GWs world expands with the introduction of Jesse Calhoun and his team of Navy SEALs. This is the book where we get introduced to the Norton twins, and they build expectations that they live up to very well. Some of the suspense elements were a bit hard to follow, but interesting all the same. I liked this book even more on reread, maybe because I had more time to focus on it when I read it the first time.

Next is with the smooth-talker Gator and his Flame. Looking forward to it!

Original Review

I was so excited to read Nicolas' story when I met him in Shadow Game. And I was not disappointed. He was a great hero. I loved his ability to stay in control, but also the fact that one person, Dahlia made his ice cold blood turn molten. He can't seem to understand why this one little woman is the person who can turn his brain into mush and light his body on fire, when he is known for his ability to do what needs to be done without letting emotions get into the way. This is why he takes on the mission to bring in Dahlia when she is known to be a potentially dangerous loose cannon from Dr. Whitney's group of young girls he experimented on.

I thought that the chemistry and the connection between Nicolas and Dahlia was classic. They are a perfect couple and the scenes of them interacting were memorable and delightful, and not just the love scenes, which were pretty incendiary, if you ask me. This book had a lot more action and intrigue than Shadow Game, and Dahlia is a lot more tortured than Lily was. I felt sorry for Dahlia to be so affected by other people's emotions that they made her sick or made her manifest the excess energy as fire. Her situation is a tough one, but Nicolas is there to help her and protect her every step of the way, and he stakes his claim early on and isn't about to let anything take her away from him. You start the book wondering how this couple can get the happy ending that you crave, but you don't end this book disappointed. I was quite impressed with Ms. Feehan's imagination. I have read and watched books with people who are psychically gifted, but the direction that she took with the subject matter was different and exciting.

Mind Game was the kind of book that was hard to put down, and also makes you eager for more stories about the GhostWalkers. Meeting all these delicious, dangerous men is like getting invited to an All Books One Cent sale (or chocolate, whatever your addiction is). And we get introduced to even more GhostWalkers who are just as yummy, such as Jess Calhoun, and the Norton Twins. Can't wait to read their stories. Oh, wait, I do have other books I have to read that aren't Ghost Walkers books. But at least I can look forward to more Ghost Walker books with anticipation. Again I enjoyed the camaraderie between the Ghost Walkers and their gentle care and adoption of Dahlia, who has always felt like an outsider, and has lost the little family that she ever had. I really enjoyed this book, and finished it knowing that I am thoroughly addicted to the Ghost Walker series.

Liked it better on re read.

Prior comments:

3.5 stars.
After finishing this book I feel...elated. Why? Because it took me almost 3 days and, for me, that is a lifetime! Books rarely take me longer than a day to finish. The problem is there was no specific reason for this book to take so long. I do believe it was drawn out longer than it needed to be. The scenes in between the action were kind of unproductive and boring. But not so bad that it kept me reading for so long. U

Unfortunately, neither the couple nor the story could hold my attention for long. I liked them both. Neither of them annoyed me, but they were just not compelling. Nico was almost too nice, too accommodating and on his heels with Dahlia. She was too insecure to be leading the relationship, so I felt it just floundered around. The story sort of lacked a real point. Recovering the data? Really? It just was not that interesting. But it was still good.

The real problem is that, even though I know better, I read 3 books in this series back to back. That is always going to mean I like the books less and find them less interesting because I am too familiar with the overall story, especially when it follows a pretty predictable formula. Consequently I will be taking a break before hitting book 3. But have no doubt, I will continue reading. The GhostWalkers fascinate me and I am really excited to read Flame and Gator's story. But I am also smart enough to know if I rush in right now I will not love it.

Sorry. I know this is not a helpful review. But there are great reviews out there for those interested!

4 stars Paranormal Romance/Romantic Suspense

I enjoyed this second installment in the GhostWalkers series, and I especially love the dynamic combination of paranormal elements, military romantic suspense, and steamy romance. There’s just something about Feehan’s excessively wordy writing style that bogs down the flow and pace of the story a bit for me, which is why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5. But just like with , the intriguing, strong characters and hot love scenes are the best part of the book. Dark, serious, sexy, quietly powerful, and protective half-Lakota, half-Japanese Nico is a deliciously yummy alpha hero, and the chemistry between him and Dahlia is explosive. Overall, Mind Game is an entertaining read with lots of paranormal intrigue, thrilling action, and sizzling, touching romance. 4 stars!

The PNR aspect in this book was stronger than in the 1st book in the series, and it was better explained. Geek that I am, I just love the scientific "mumbo jumbo"! The romance aspect wasn´t too shabby either: Nicolas and Dahlia could really burn down the house - sorry, I couldn´t help the "bad" joke... ;)

I´m definitely hooked to this series and can´t wait to see all the remaining GhostWalkers finding their matches!

I really enjoy the Game series by Christine Feehan. But for whatever reason, I wasn’t in the mood to get into this book this time around. Regardless, this review will be a double thumbs up.

A team of extraordinary men, soldiers of extreme discipline, volunteered to be experimented on in hopes of enhancing her natural psychic abilities.

Recently learning that there are also female victims of the same insane but brilliant doctor, Lily must use every contact at her disposal. Finally, she located Dahlia, a sister of suffering from her childhood.

What the men do not realize, is they will be challenged in a way completely foreign to them. To be taken over by a woman, to fall deeply in love, to crave her body more than breath itself, leaves them vulnerable and uncomfortable with their new reality.

Nicolas is a quiet and intense man. Cold and calculating.

Demanding to be the man to hunt Dahlia down and bring her home to the other Ghostwalkers, Nicolas sets out into the bayou in Louisiana to find this miraculous woman.

He could accept the physical attraction, even though the intensity might be disastrous. He could even accept his deep need to protect her. He was always the one that looked out for his men, and he took the role seriously. That was part of his character and he was well aware of it. But to find himself obsessed-and that was a good word for it- was uncomfortable. He was trying to keep them both alive, and all he could think about was Dahlia. The sound of her voice. The way her smile flashed at him unexpectedly. It was unnerving how much he thought about her.

Dahlia is an amazing woman who has been forced into isolation due to her sensitivity to emotions and violence. Beautiful, stunning, she struggles through her attraction of Nicolas as she runs from those hunting her.

This is a wonderful book and I recommend it to adults ONLY. Strong sexual content and moderate violence with some delicious violence oozing from the pages.

It is not completely necessary to read this book in order, but why not? You will have more appreciate for their totally rockin awesome characters if you read this series from the beginning.

~Happy reading!

My second book by this author and the second installment in the GW Series and all I can say is if I’m ever in need of rescue, would you please send in Nicolas! Wow He is just amazing! And I agree with Dahlia... ”he wasn’t just any man. He was extraordinary..a walking lethal weapon!

Nicolas Travene is a dark, strong, silent, fierce, alpha warrior whose ice is melted by Dahlia Le Blanc, also a product of the late Dr. Peter Whitney’s genetic alteration. Together, they sizzle and create their own firestorm!

It is times like this that I wish I were a writer so that I could submit a review that would do justice to this series. I somewhat feel like Wilbur as he admired Charlotte’s writing abilities. But, I am just a reader so I will put pen to my puny efforts and try to convey my love for this book, this series, its characters and the wonderful talent of Christine Feehan.

I loved this one as much as the first. While it is different in many ways, Feehan does an incredible job of weaving all the GW characters into this story while keeping the main focus on the H/h. Dahlia’s story will pull on your heartstrings. The genetic enhancements have rendered her so handicapped that she is forced to live as solitary a life as possible. Specially trained, she works undercover for the NCIS. And now, someone wants her dead.
...“for the first time in her life, Dahlia was frozen, unable to move or think. She could only watch as the heavily muscled man closed the distance between them with his long strides. He reached down without missing a step and scooped her up effortlessly, as casually as he would have retrieved a ball, and continued running from the building.
Dahlia with her fiery personality is also a wounded soul, never having a family or anyone who loves her, feeling totally isolated and unlovable. I could feel her loneliness and despair.
And there truly could be no better hero suited to help her, protect her and love her than Nicolas, the leader of the men, all icy reserve and so well disciplined in keeping all emotion in check. That is until he meets Dahlia and by the end of their story, she is his “kiciciyapi mitawa ---his heart.
They are so well suited that she can actually “feel his thoughts. Imagine that, being the fantasy of a hunk warrior and as he thinks, you feel. The intensity of their physical attraction will draw you in. But their story is just as incredibly tender as it is steamy-Hot! What a combination!
...“But he saw those wounds when no one else could, and he knew he was born for her. He was born to heal her.
If you are looking for a well-written, sensual, fast-paced, page-turner that is full of action, suspense, laughter, and tears, you will not want to miss this one. This second book of the GW series grabbed me and held me as captive as the first. I was entranced as Dahlia and Nicolas, along with the others from the GW team, track down the assassin who want her dead all the while keeping her safe. I completely adore this series and the camaraderie of the GW Team. Now...on to the next book!

The GhohstWalkers' motto “nox noctis est nostril ----the night is ours.

-----THE CHOSTWALKER CREED----

We are the GhostWalkers, we live in the shadows
The sea, the earth, and the air are our domain
No fallen comrade will be left behind
We are loyalty and honor bound
We are invisible to our enemies and we destroy them where we find them
We believe in justice and we protect our country and those unable to protect themselves
What goes unseen, unheard, and unknown are GhostWalkers
There is honor in the shadows and it is us
We move in complete silence whether in jungle or desert
We walk among our enemy unseen and unheard
Striking without sound and scatter to the winds before they have knowledge of our existence
We gather information and wait with endless patience for that perfect moment to deliver swift justice
We are both merciful and merciless
We are relentless and implacable in our resolve
We are the GhostWalkers and the night is ours

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️☺️😍😄
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Nicolas - he was special forces and had volunteered for a special project that centered around research and developing psychic abilities. They were called ghost walkers because they can get in and out of situations without making a sound. They used telepathy to talk to each other on missions. However, something went wrong, and their psychic abilities have become too strong and has caused severe headaches. When they complained that the scientist and general behind the project didn’t care when some of them died and others were tortured, they were held captive in cells. Until they escaped along with the scientist's daughter Lily. Now they live with her in her mansion, where they can be away from others and all the human thoughts and emotions that bombard them if they are in a populated area. They still go on missions, and they are also trying to rescue other ghost walkers from the program.

The heroine: Dahlia - she grew up in a research facility where she was experimented on. She was the girl with the most promising abilities, and she can do things with her mind that nobody else can do. She is capable of telekinesis, she can start fires with her mind, she is telepathic with great instincts, and much more. However, when she is around others, their emotions overpower her and cause her to shut down and pass out. The scientist that she worked with, Dr. Whitney ended up setting her up in her own home where she could be safe and protected, when she wasn’t away on missions. One day when she was out, she came back to find her home was invaded by men with evil intentions. A squad sent to kill her. The few people she was used to were murdered, including her handler.

The Story: Nicolas was sent to find Dahlia after Lily found some footage of Dahlia as a child. They could tell that she was a ghost walker like them and that she had unprecedented psychic abilities, and they grew as she got older. They were able to find where she was living, and they knew that Dahlia couldn’t handle human emotions so they knew that they could help her. Nicolas was a natural psychic anchor and just being near him would help Dahlia deal with being around other humans.

I read the first book in this series a while ago and I liked it. I forgot this was a military romance about enhanced psychic abilities (super-soldiers) and that is just the kind of thing I have been reading lately so I thought I would jump back into this series. I liked the thought of this one from the start. I loved the fact that the heroine has the best psychic abilities that are even stronger than those of the Hero.

This audiobook was in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Tom Stechshulte. He is a good narrator and has a deep voice, though he does sound a bit older than the male Hero. Though for me to listen to 14+ hours of a Solo narration, should tell you that I liked him well enough, as I rarely listen to solo narration and when I do, I have to like the narrator of I will give up right away.

I've always enjoyed stories that are a little out there in terms of the Supernatural, and this story definitely piqued my interest.

I liked the characters and the general storyline of the GhostWalkers and their various powers but the writing kind of annoyed me. I'm not sure if it's just the kindle version I read, or if it's in the actual book but I found a few errors, missing words from sentences, and mis-used words for example, using 'insure' instead of 'ensure,' or using 'then' when it should be 'than' - these should have been picked up by the editor/proofreader.

The dialogue came across a little forced and didn't really have a conversational flow, plus the main characters used each other's names way too often, it felt like it was almost every interaction and sentence in some passages, and people don't really use each other's names that much when talking to each other, after a while it grated on my nerves.

Some of the dialogue and the passages were also quite repetitive, I get it, she makes you feel something you've never felt before, move along, and the energy finds you, okay, we all get it now please stop saying it, and these repetitions were worded so similarly that more than once I thought I had accidentally managed to tap back to an earlier section.

It's a shame that it bothered me so much because I did like it, but the errors, forced dialogue and repetitiveness detracted from my overall enjoyment.

I'm really enjoying the reread of this series. I'm surprised at how little I remember. But I'm definitely having fun learning this world again.

I liked Dahlia a lot. She's been isolated her whole life and really doesn't think there's any other way she can live. Her talent makes it nearly impossible for her to be around any other person without going into overload over their emotions. She becomes a bomb of fire waiting to happen.

Nicholas is as cool and remote as they come. Even his own team has trouble identifying with him at times. He's a pool of ice. But Dahlia's presence is tossing his world up in the air. Whoever is after Dahlia and trying to end her life has an in with those she's been working with for years. They've got a mole, because that's the only way they would have all the details of her life and they're coming in hard and fast. But with Nicholas protecting her back maybe they have a chance.

Of course these two have a crazy volatile connection. I did enjoy the last section of the book the most once all the rest of Nicholas' crazy GhostWalker team joined them. Still everything about this was a fun action packed ride as they stayed one step ahead of the crazy out to get them.

3.5 stars.

I am starting to enjoy this series. I don't normally read multiple books by one author, but I like Christine Feehan and wanted to give this series a try.

I don't love it as much as I love the Carpathian series, I do enjoy the world she has built, and the characters she created in this series.

Dahlia and Nicholas were a good match. They both were very closed off, and lonely. It was good to see them open up to each other and fall in love.

It was so cute to see Dahlia and Lily reunite.

Content: Sex (explicit), violence / death, mild cussing, a few typos.

3.75 stars. I enjoyed Mind Game for many of the same reasons I enjoyed the first book in the series. Loved the evolving plot, the suspense kept me guessing, and I enjoyed the camaraderie among the ghost walkers. Of course, I loved seeing Dahlia begin to trust in Nico's love for her. Feehan did a nice job portraying their developing relationship.

My heart went out to Dahlia -- I was happy to see her find peace and love and belonging. Freehan did a good job describing Dahlia's sense of isolation, exclusion, betrayal. Her seizures!! Rocking and crying in her sleep! Loved Nico's protectiveness and tenderness with her. Loved the scene when Max hurt her feelings, and Nico stood up for her in no uncertain terms, telling Max off. Loved the way the Ghostwalkers joked around with her.

The setting in the bayou was particularly well described, but I really cannot imagine anyone living in there, with gators on your front yard and sink holes surrounding your house.

Loved the early scene, when Nico first rescued Dahlia, single-mindedly bringing her safely out of the swamp. Loved the scene where Nico and Lily helped Jessie Calhoun. No spoilers, but it was a special scene, and important to the characterization of Nico.

The happy-ever-after scene in the swimming pool at Nico's mountain ranch? Sweet! J

Why Not 5 Stars?

In my view, Feehan diminishes her suspense line with an overabundance of lovemaking. Sex and thoughts about sex interrupt the plot and slow the pace, sometimes making me nervous about Dahlia and Nico's safety (when snipers were hunting them in the ____ and they stopped to make out, for example.) And the flaming during sex didn't appeal to me. Silly. Hard to enjoy the moment worrying about the curtains catching fire.

Nicolas underwent a major character change from book 1 to book 2. In book 1, he was truly ghost-like, silent, watchful. He stayed in the shadows. Still waters running deep, etc. In book 2, he talked a lot!! I was disappointed, because I was looking forward to a man who showed his heart -- his love, loyalty, and devotion -- but didn't talk much about anything. (But I still enjoyed Nico in this book.) And IMO, that's a much tougher task for a writer. Ellen O'Connell did it fairly well in the native-American historical western, Dancing on Coals, where the hero doesn't speak to the heroine for the first half of the book. See .

Dahlia's intense devotion to Lily seemed a bit ludicrous. I know they loved each other as children, but weren't they only about 5 when they separated? ( It's not clear how old they were. I'm not even sure how old they are now, as adults.)

At the end of Shadow Game Lily and the GhostWalkers were determined to find the other children that Lily's father Dr Whitney had experimented on to enhance their psychic abilities. Dahlia is the first of those children that she has managed to track down but after looking at recordings of her training it seems she has a dangerous ability. Nicolas is sent to find her and let her know that they can help her to live a normal life but when he gets to her he finds she has become the target of deadly assassins. He manages to save her from their first attack but her friend has been taken hostage and Dahlia is determined to save him. She is going to need the help of Nicolas and the other GhostWalkers to rescue her friend and find out who is behind the plot to take her life.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and Mind Game didn't disappoint. I find the idea of an experiment to increase psychic abilities really interesting and love finding out about the different powers that the GhostWalkers have. Dahlia has a very unusual and dangerous talent which allows her to do amazing things but it comes at a very high cost to her. Constantly absorbing energy from her surroundings and the feelings of others she is easily overwhelmed and when that happens things become explosive, with Dahlia often setting fire to anything around her. Unable to control her powers she is a danger to anyone around her but Nicolas is willing to take the risk to be with her.

Dahlia has been through a lot since she was experimented on as a child, she has had no one she could rely on and has never allowed anyone to get close to her. Her dream of having a family has always seemed an unrealistic one and she has been forced to spend most of her time alone to avoid the affect that other people's emotions have on her. Nicolas is the most cold and aloof of the GhostWalkers but Dahlia breaks down his barriers and allows his passionate side to come to the front. It takes a while for Dahlia to allow Nicolas in but it's well worth the wait and the heat between them is literally explosive!

I enjoyed seeing more of the camaraderie between the GhostWalkers and it was sweet watching them welcome Dahlia into their family. We've been introduced to some more interesting characters who I'm hoping we'll see more of in future books and I'm looking forward to finding out more about the individual GhostWalker's psychic abilities. This series has a little of everything - action and danger, psychic abilities and a lot of hot romance - and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

So this is the second installment in the Ghostwalkers series and I enjoyed it maybe even more than the first as it was less confusing. I've become better acquainted with the world CF had built and also because the hero and heroine didn't use quite as many scientific terminology that Lily did in the first book. There were some parts that were still a bit hard to follow and I found myself confused at times but it was still enjoyable and didn't put me off.

I really loved Nico. He's portrayed as silent and deadly in the previous book and in the beginning of this book but we see a completely different side of him when he's in Dahlia's company. We got snippets about his past, we got to see his tender side when he realised how significant Dahlia's was becoming in his life and we got to see his protective and possessive side. A prime example of an alpha male. He's silent and fierce but we got to see how important the Ghostwalkers are to him and Lily as well.

Dahlia was an enjoyable heroine who is totally bad ass because of how powerful she is, but the ramifications of her powers were staggering and made me realise that I definitely would not want her power. My heart warmed at the thought of Nico being her anchor. There was so many sweet and tender scenes as well as steamy and hot scenes.

We were introduced to so many male characters that are actually Ghostwalkers who Dr. Whitney experienced on in the privacy of his own home. I'm curious how many people he actually experimented on and of whether they will all get their own stories told. I'm also curious to know if there are any Ghostwalkers females that exist outside of the 12 little girls he experimented on. I guess I'll have to keep reading to have my questions answered.

I'm hoping Jesse Calhoun will get his own book because he definitely caught my interest in this one and with the unfortunate condition he is left in because of what he suffered in this book, my interest has peaked even more. I'm also curious to know if any books in this series so far have a hero and heroine who are completely sure in their relationship and not have to worry about the other slipping through their fingers. Again, I guess I'll have to keep reading.

Yay, the smooth ass talking Gator is up next!

This is the second instalment in the GhostWalker series, and Lily Whitney has located Dahlia Le Blanc, one of the children that Dr Peter Whitney, her father, experimented on. Nicolas Trevane is sent in to track Dahlia and finds that she has become a target of assassins and it is his job to protect her and bring her to safety. But passion and emotions that neither person is used to unexpectedly flares between them drawing them closer together.

Although I found this book slow to start with, once I got passed that, I couldn’t put this book down. It was an exciting mixture of action, adventure, romance and passion. Nicolas and Dahlia were great characters and they both had similar personalities both needing isolation and both needing to suppress their emotions, so I enjoyed watching such lonely characters come together. As always, CF makes her sex scenes hot and steamy, whilst also giving them a romantic edge, no matter how down and dirty the couple get, you can always see the love and caring between Dahlia and Nicolas.

The action was good in this as well, with them both being hunted through the Bayou by persons unknown, it keeps the book tense and fast paced. This book also introduces more GhostWalkers that the nefarious Dr Peter Whitney has created, adding some more characters in to the mix that I look forward to reading about. Another aspect of this book that I enjoyed and was also present in the previous book was the easy camaraderie between the GhostWalkers, giving you insight into each different person’s personality.

This was written in CF’s usual style of wordy and descriptive prose, so if you don’t like her usual style then I imagine you probably won’t like this. However, I like the way she writes so I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next book in the series.

Nicolas Trevane, Nico, is a big mystery from book 1. He's quiet, calm and deadly. He was raised by his Grandfathers in the old ways. His gifts came well before the experiment that released his physic barriers. He just knows when there is danger. And he won't let his emotions get in the way of what needs to done. Well, that is until he meets Dahlia Le Blanc.

Dahlia can manipulate energy to the extreme. Her telekinetic power is impressive but it comes at a high cost. She can't be around people for very long, or around strong emotion without things going up in flames. No amount of Zen living has helped her until she meets Nico.

It's fun to watch two very controlled characters get out of control. And even more fun to see them realize how well they fit together, compliment each other. Their banter was so fun. Nico's used to being in command. Dahlia doesn't do commands. They both had me giggling.

The story is interesting as they try to figure out who has betrayed Dahlia and how to rescue her friend. Their one step ahead of the bad guys using Nico's warning system and trying to keep their hands off each other. Great fun.

More details are revealed about the workings of Dr. Peter Whitney but there is still so much unknown. Good thing there are more books to read.

I think I like this book a little more than book 1. Less world building and more action/fun. If you enjoy a good paranormal romance read, than this one is a great choice.

I must be the only one who gives such low ratings to the books in this series, but so far book 1 and 2 were not of my taste at all, I mean they are not bad, just not as interesting as I would want them to be.

Some parts I loved but others were a bit boring. It's just that I don't find the topic that appealing.

But the romance was pretty good. Sometimes I even got excited about the two of them together, because they actually did have some good moments together but that's about it. There are many things that should get better before I really start to care more about this series. I'll still try another book to see if it gets better, because I think this series has a great potential.

Moved just a little too slow for me. On the plus side, I liked how Dahlia and Nicholas were able to communicate with each other through their telepathic abilities. It's hard to hide your feelings from your lover when they can read your mind! I also liked how Nicholas was completed unashamed in his feelings for and pursuit of Dahlia. Kind of refreshing :)

I realise that I’m in the minority here, but Christine Feehane is one of those writers that I can’t stand. Her characters seem to drone on and on from scripts they were handed. Everything is so artificial.

I read a couple of her vampire books years ago and hated them and then decided to give this one a try and realised I still can’t stand her writing.

Great read! Nico intrigued me in the first book of the series, and I'm glad Feehan didn't make us wait too long for his story. I totally loved that she balanced his stoic, warrior persona with warmth and tenderness. I know some readers said they didn't buy it, but I think his background of being raised by healers who held to ancient and wise teachings made these two sides of his personality believable. You can be quiet, methodical and even dangerous, as Nico is and still have a great deal of passion in you. He's just learned to temper all of that over the years so of course he might come across as cold and closed down when he's really not. I totally loved his character.

I enjoyed Dahlia as well. Again, some readers didn't like her but I think she made a lot of sense. She was very vulnerable because of her telekinetic powers but also because everyone chose to keep her isolated. That made her truly believe she was dangerous, abnormal, unlovable. So in that way, yes she was vulnerable but she never came across as clingy or weak to me. She was very much her own person, proud and capable. She and Nicolas fit together very well I thought. Stubborn almost to an asset.

What I like about this series is there are clearly layers Feehan is going to build on in later books. That works beautifully for me. I like big over arching plots. And the plot in this novel didn't wander around or away from the main problem. I can't stand it when that happens because it distracts me. I also liked how other characters we are familiar with are built on and further developed (I'm very interested in Gator now) and that Feehan introduces new characters in a way that clearly indicates these are going to be key players in the series.

Favorite quote from this book:
I called you my heart. And you are.

The insta-lust. Ese te-miro-y-quiero-arrancarte-la-ropa. Con-los-dientes. En-medio-de-un-pantano. Con-balas-lloviendo-sobre-nuestras-cabezas. Ahh, sencillamente me encanta.

Ah very good book, very emotional right from the beginning. Its so sad to see how the girls were being mistreated by Dr.Whitney during the experimenting. How they manage to grow up dealing with their powers with no real help. Dahlia has managed to become a very strong person who is used to taking care of herself. She has such a dangerous power and is afraid when she feels too much emotion she sets things on fire, so she is not used to being around people, but her and Nicolas were fit for eachother. He helps her control her energy. I loved them together. They're both stubborn and always keep to themselves. This book had me laughing so many times. I love the boat scene with her breasts and just their antagonistic ways towards eachother. The way Feehan writes her love scenes has my stomach in my toes. I love how theres such strong emotions in this book. Nicolas loves Dahlia so much, he's always afraid she gonna leave him, and he hates to feel so desperate. He's so protective over her, and has a hard time controling his cool calm demeaner. I loved this book and I love all the guys in this series. They're so funny together. Bring on Gator, the little charmer!!

I'm liking this series but this isn't my favorite couple. I actually liked them better apart than I did as a couple. Dahlia seemed stronger when she wasn't around Nico and he was a little too overbearing for my taste. Their relationship didn't seem balanced to me and I'm not really a fan of that dynamic in my romances. But I love the whole Ghostwalkers concept and I'll definitely keep reading the series.

Its always such a pleasure to read from Christine Feehan, of course this is my second time reading this series. I read the first in the series "Shadow Game" and now I have just finished reading "Mind Game" and what a wild crazy ride that turned out to be. Nicolas Trevane has volunteered to go and find Dahlia Le Blanc, who Lily has found. Lily has been searching for all the young girls that her father changed and tormented and then sent out into the world alone. She thinks she has finally found Dahlia who is very powerful in a psychic way. Dahlia has had to live in isolation most of her life, because she has no anchor for all the emotions that bombarde her mind; especially anger which can send her into seizures if she isn't careful. Dahlia also goes on missions for NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigation ) She has just returned when she finds that those that raised her are dead, and one of her few friends Jesse Calhoun is being tortured for information to find her. Dahlia remains hidden, but stricken at the sight. Then she meets Nicolas who saves and conceals her from the enemy. Dahlia has no idea how to react around this strong capable yet psychic man. Dahlia is afraid that he will get hurt because of her. Since it has happened to her whenever she has gotten close to someone. Together they join forces, for they are on the run from people who are hunting Dahlia to destroy her and her only protection is Nicolas, who is highly trained and a professional. But beneath that exterior that they have built between them a explosive passion builds between them, one they can't explain and have never experienced. In the midst of it all, both Nicolas and Dahlia find relief in one another's arms. But there is still a mission to be carried out and with the help of the Ghostwalkers, Dahlia and Nicolas just might succeed if they work together as a unit.

Ever since I read the first novel from Christine Feehan, I fell in love with her writing and capabilities to protray stories that evoke such raw emotions as she does in "Mind Game". A couple weeks ago I just had the urge to re-read the Ghostwalker Series all over again, especially since I love this series. I absolutely adored Dahlia, she has such a inner strength and fortitude. She is contantly feeling pain under the stress of all the emotional energy that attacks her constantly. Its rare for her to find relief apart from when she sleeps. But when she meets Nicolas and the other Ghostwalkers, she finds for the first time in her life relief from all the energy and a way to learn to focus it. A task that has never been accomplished. Nicolas, is the perfect Alpha Male, arrogant, strong, capable, and loves to be in command and in control. Of course he has met his match with Dahlia, who also has to be in control. They go head to head a few times in the book, which was very satisfyingly enjoyable!!! I loved the way that the characters interacted, the bantering, the passions that ignite, and a thrilling supsenseful plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and aching for more. I had no problems with reading "Mind Game" Its definitely one of those that I can re-read over and over, and one you will never be disappointed in reading.

I'm uncomfortable saying I really liked the book when so many things bothered me but I really liked the idea behind the book.

I did figure out what was bothering me with Ms. Feehan's writing. She sets up a wonderful portrait of a character then as the book progresses, has that character go completely against his/her nature with their actions. It totally confuses and annoys me! Take Nicholas (the hero), for example, Throughout book #1 and beginning in this book, he is portrayed as a native American Indian (with Japaneese ancestry, also) who has been taught to live a life of isolation, is extremely centered, incredibly loyal, amazingly smart but rarely talks. When he meets Dahlia (the heroine), however, suddenly he morphs into an extremely communicative man who talks easily and has a penchant for sharing and expressing his feelings. Woah..... that wasn't who he was! He somehow turned into Ryland of the first book, all his actions and words were exactly the same!

Which brings me to the next very perplexing subject. The characters (actually the author) repeats herself over and over again. I keep seeing the same words, sentences and thoughts throughout the books, both from the same character and sometimes intermingled between characters (the exact same thoughts Ryland used in book one Nicholas used in book two.) Different characters need their own unique thought and speech! In the first two books the main characters became interchangeable and that was disappointing because I really like the natural differences that had been set up. I liked Nicholas as he was originally meant, a man of few words, mysterious but loyal and would loved to have seen THAT man fall in love.

All that being said, I still want to continue reading this series. I love the precept of this team of "Ghostwalkers" using psychic ability to help others. I love that each character must struggle with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. There is such a wealth of opportunity here that I hope it plays out better as the series continues.

This is not the first Feehan paranormal series that I have read, however I enjoy the depth of plotline found within. I almost did not finish the first book, Shadow Game and almost gave up on the series. I had a problem getting behind the female lead of Lily Whitney, not really liking her and had no buy-in her happiness. However, when I read the back cover of Mind Game, I found the plotline interesting and Nicolas had always been my favorite in book 1.

Nicolas Trevane is the epitome of my image of the Alpha male warrior. He is quiet and has all appearance of being cold-blooded, but inside he is deeply passionate and faithful to his men and duty.

He is lethal in everything that he does, but he does not take life lightly. Both of his grandparents, the Lakota shaman and the Japanese warrior, equally spiritual in their own cultures have raised him with a respect for life. This respect for life and Zen reflection is something Nico inherits.

Normally, I have problems with how one-dimensional the male Alpha lead is in a Feehan book. However, in this case, Nicholas is not your typical sniper, but has a rich background and spiritual philosophy that colors his actions. However, I did find Dahlia rather flat, a typical “female in peril. I got a little tired of her whining about how dangerous their relationship would be and she could never be “normal.

Overall, I loved this book and it is one of my favorites in the series. I recommend this book for any reader who loves paranormal romance with well-choreographed fight scenes and hot romance action.

I enjoyed this book very much. This is the second one I've read by this author, and I liked her to begin with but this book is even better. I loved the heroine, Dahlia. I picture her as looking like Maggie Q from Nikita. Dahlia had an interesting backstory and a unique power that I've never come across before. She was sympathetic and lonely but strong and independent. I loved that her power merged with Nicholas' to make each of them better, and that he could tap into his healing power when he merged with her. I would have liked for that aspect to be explored more. The story opened with a bang and moved quickly. It bogged down a bit in the middle third, although I liked Dahlia's interaction with the GhostWalkers. The hero wasn't as well drawn as the heroine. And why was he raised by his two grandfathers? What happened to his mother and the grandmothers? And his possessiveness got on my nerves a bit. These are mino quibbles; I can't wait to read more of this series.

I've only read Christine Freehan Carpathian series and I enjoyed them but I wasn't enamored with the way the female became weak and needed the 'protection' their beloved male characters could provide at all times. Of course, Dark Slayer, Ivory was at the the only female warrior got a little more wiggle room. Well glory be, Delilah was strong enough to stay on a more equal footing with the boys and boy did she kick ass!
This is the second GhostWalker installment and I feel like I can follow this series. There are plenty of characters with plenty of abilities that could use some special love. So I see a lot of installments to come. Special note, Christine Freehan is still if not even better at describing action scenes.

Not really much plot to speak of, more a series of incidents designed to get the two main characters all hot and bothered about each other, meaning that it seems to move at a snail's pace. Described as a 'supernatural romance', there wasn't a huge amount of either (noticing someone's erection isn't quite in the realm of romance as I think of it). Filled with images of aching swollen breasts and 'hot and wet feminine channels' (channel?? Hmm, sexy), and feeding off one another's 'sexual energy', the many, many sex scenes strangely aren't even very erotic. I won't be bothering with the rest of the series.
