Well, hell. I think I could use some of Mrs. O’Reilly’s waterproof mascara. I look like Alice Cooper right now. My heart hurts and my nose is stopped up and I’m fairly pissed off.

This appears to be Ms. Delport’s debut novel and damn WHAT. A. RIDE. I knew it was going to hurt, and it did. Sort of spoiler-->

Paige’s pain is beautifully written and so real it’s palpable. I ached for her. Hard.

Bottom line: Unique plot with medium angst, tears began at 80% and never let up.

Wow! I read about this book on a popular romance blog and was immediately intrigued. It was described as having gasp-worthy plot twists and a crazy ending, and I knew I had to read it.

This book is not for the faint of heart. If you have to read sugarcoated romance novels with predicable HEAs, I don’t think this book is for you. But if you are like me, and sometimes want a crazy surprise and want to cry like a baby, this book is right up your alley.

First things first, GO IN BLIND! Avoid reading any spoilers, because this book will rock you to your core and it’s absolutely fabulous. I loved every heartbreaking bit of this book.

It’s about a woman named Paige, who is still recovering from the death of her fiancé and struggling to deal with her father’s Alzheimer’s. She meets a gorgeous and charming man named Adam and they fall fast in love. Until one day she catches him with another woman. Trying to heal from her broken heart, she is visited by someone that reveals something about Adam’s past and convinces her that she is the key to helping him. “How far would you go to save the man you love?

Books like this don’t come along very often. I can usually predict what’s going to happen. Not with this one. I loved it and I hated it. I wanted to throw my iPad against the wall. This book made me feel every emotion on the spectrum. I can’t recommend highly enough.

March- the month of the Marmy. The month that makes us *feel*. Being the T-shirt entrepreneur and card carrying member of the Marmies, I am not afraid of these books that some tend to shy away from.
It is more the problem of working them in with the rest of never shrinking TBR pile. However, Maryse and Amy told me I *had* to read this one...and they were so right.

Rainfall had been on my radar, and every time I had seen its name hinted at, I would quickly scan over it and try and avoid all mention, so as not to.be spoiled. Mission accomplished- I had *NO* idea what I was walking into.

I've had Rainfall on my TBR for so long, I still have the old black umbrella cover, which I just adore!

Let's start with the good. For what I've deduced is Ms. Delcort's first novel, I want to give her a standing ovation. Well done! You created such an intricate world, so different from what is currently littering the literary landscape that my hat is off to you.

The not-so-good, there were some editing/formatting issues that may very well have been fixed by now; but like I said, I read a much earlier copy that I had purchased and I prefer that cover and don't want to update. The pacing was off a bit as well and it dragged a bit in parts but, overall not enough to detract my interest.

The great! Your twists were inspired! Anyone looking for spoilers won't find them here... I will just say, I guessed some and not others.

Very well done! 4.25 drink the cheap red wine and dance in the rain stars!

Wow! I really not expecting to like this book at all. The blurp promising something sinister and mysterious. The beginning of this book is so slow. With so many unnecessary things.

Then the author suddenly pulls out the carpet in the last minute. Thats when my heart break. Really break. I stopped for a while because I have to take a deep breath to calm myself.

When I continue forward, I finally understand. Sometimes love never meant to be. And when everything seems ended, hope coming from inside of ourselves.

This book is utter perfection. Be patient reading it. At the end it really worth it.

“The universe is cruel. Life is not fair. Our ability to feel and to love is our weakness; this is what it means to be human.

My emotions are all over the place. This book hurt.

I liked this book because it proved me wrong. How? Well, the blurb doesn't give anything away, but when I read those first pages, at 19% I already knew what was the problem. I thought I knew. To my surprise, I knew just half of the problem.

The writer did a good job. The story is original. It's a love story. A tragedy. It's about moving forward. Letting go. Learning. I can't give much details because I don't want to spoil anything, but if you want to read something different, I recommend "Rainfall"

I never hated a character so much in my life. Simon. Like I said I can't say much, but if you read this book, you will understand why I hated him so much. Even knowing he was right.

I don't even know what to say about this book. I couldn't put it down because I was so intrigued, but I was struggling in the beginning. Just when it started to pull me in, BAM it took a twist that I honestly didn't like! Wtf! If it wasn't for the epilogue, I probably would have thrown something (not my Samsung Note though..... that would be stupid.... haha)!

Libro que he disfrutado mucho :-)

For a HUGE portion of the book, I felt like it dragged quite a bit. It wasn't until the last 30% of the book that things really got interesting. The originality of the story and that WTF plot twist was 5 star quality. I mean it was so shocking and I was completely caught off guard by it. But that didn't negate the fact that so much of the book was ho-hum. I skimmed a lot. The heroine also grew to be VERY unlikeable.

***Rant alert***

Whenever I read a book, I want to be lost in a world that seems real. I want to believe that these are real people dealing with problems and experiencing life even though I know I'm reading fiction.

So when an American character uses a distinctly British word, it takes away from the authenticity of the story and I'm drawn outside of the world I'm trying to become immersed in. In Rainfall, the main character is an American living in Long Beach, California and repeatedly uses British words and expressions that I NEVER hear Americans use. Here are some examples:

"I want to slap her face and tell her to bugger off"
"I can't tear her away from the telly"
"I am so gobsmacked that I just sit there"

I just finished a book a few days ago where the same thing happened. The book was written by a British author but the main characters are Americans living in San Diego, CA. The guy says he's never had a "proper girlfriend." There's no way in hell a young SoCal guy would say that. It would be a "serious or real girlfriend." These uniquely British words popped up the ENTIRE book. I just think that if you choose to make your main characters American, it should be edited by an American that is familiar with the vernacular.

Don't get me wrong! I love these British words and expressions but please make the characters British to match the language.

How is it that I never rated this book? I loved it, and I hated it. Never has a book hurt my feelings as deeply. I never saw the twist coming. As it was revealed, I remember throwing my Kindle down, yelling "It's Not Fair", and walking wide circles around it for like an hour before I could go back in.

When someone can make me feel so much, especially given all the books I have read in my life, and to even have the mention of just the title bring all those feelings back so vividly...well played, Ms. Delport, well played!!!

Shit! What a ride! Definitely not your typical romance. I figured out the first twist pretty quickly based on some similar stories but certainly not the rest. Talk about emotional.

Go in blind and expect an emotional roller coaster! I don't know what to start next because I can't stop thinking about this story. The last book that did that to me was Verity by Colleen Hoover. I'm still thinking about that one too.

Rainfall is a book that I really wanted to like, but sadly, that was not what happened. When I read the book, it felt like there were too many things crammed in the first 10% of the book that I wondered what would be left to tell. And since it was full of narration, it was like everything was just being "told" and not "shown."

The romance progressed too fast for my taste in this book. In the first 10% of the book, they were pretty much in love already, which I hated. I wouldn't have continued with this book were it not about Dissociative Identity Disorder. The only reason I had to continue was because I wanted to soak up every information I could about the disorder because I felt like it was really interesting and informative.

I think I liked the story alright, but I didn't like the writing style. I liked the plot and where the book was going, but I just didn't feel connected to the characters. There were also some transitions that didn't have chapter breaks, and I had a problem with those.

I started liking the book at around the last 5% or 10% of the book. Before that I yell and shake some sense into the main character at times.

I've seen other people's reviews of this book and many of them seemed to like it. It's still worth giving a shot for that reason and for the great plot. I guess I'm just the bad sheep in this one.

Spoilers :,

I’m tired so I’ll keep this brief.

I thought it held promise at the start. But no. 40% in I skimmed to the end.

Firstly I felt no real connection to the characters.

Secondly, I hate investing in a story, in a couple, for them to not end up together.

Thirdly, the thing that ruined it for was the inaccurate depiction of DID. Alters can never “die. When integrated that’s exactly what happens. The alters integrate to become one. The new alter has the memories of both. And has the personality traits of both. They become a whole new “personality melded of the two previous alters. So Adam would not have just disappeared. And there is no one alter that owns the body. No alter is any less valid than the others in the system.

The whole thing has just left me frustrated and annoyed. Please, if you write a book on a mental disorder, at least portray it correctly!

This is a very difficult book to review. Not because I didn't enjoy it as I thoroughly enjoyed it but because it's impossible to write anything without giving away spoilers. All I can say is that it's a love story with complications and as long as you can suspend your belief whilst reading, it really is a lovely, warm and emotional story. My advice would be simply don't read any reviews, just read the book.

ASK yourself this: How far would you really go for the one you love?

Paige’s has lost most of her father to Alzheimer’s and its on the really good days that he may remember who she is. On the other days, which there are many, she is nothing more than a stranger popping into his daily routine. Her second major loss is when her fiancé is shot and killed in a store robbery gone wrong.

Paige’s character is so strong-willed that she fights her way through depression and looks at life through new eyes. She finds a way to make the most of each day, whether it is something as exhilarating as bungee jumping or as simple as dancing in the rain.

On her way to visit her parents, she bumps into the frighteningly handsome Adam and the two begin a whirlwind romance. That is until she catches him in bed with another woman.

The book takes on a darker tone as she learns Adam’s best-kept secret and Paige throws her all into helping him receive the treatment he needs. Again, how far would you go to help save the love of your life?

The protagonist's character is beautifully written and there is no need for her to be surrounded by a cast of strong support character’s to add to or boost her already vivacious personality.

Without any spoilers, just know that Adam’s character has quite a few layers, and not many of them are as palatable as you’d like.

Rainfall is engaging, intense and will have you gripped from the first page. While I may not have needed any during my read through, tissues are recommended.

Every now and them we come across a book that gets into your head and jumbles everything up. When your finished you sit back and think , Did that just happen? How am I supposed to feel about all of this? Rainfall is that kind of book. Staring this book I figured this is going to be a cute love story. You know boy meets girl , girl likes boy and they fall in love and we follow them to there HEA. Well I was so wrong this book takes you down many roads as they find their way. You meet Paige who is a fly by the seat of her pants kind of gal living each day to the fullest then there is Adam Parker and he is typical charming boy who sweeps the girl off her feet. They develop a connection pretty quickly and everything is beautiful they have a great chemistry they fit together. Things take a turn for the worse and there relationship is sent into a tailspin. Along the way your going to meet a few other men her life some you will like and some you will hate. They will all be necessary and serve a point in their journey. Your head will spin as you try to take all of this in you will feel love , anger , confusion and peace. This book will not end the way you think it will when you started it. It will show you that along the way to your happily ever after there will be bumps in the road and detour signs along the way. Hold on tight and keep going we all deserve to reach our destination

This was a book that I suspect suffered from the over hyped problem. Quite a few people have raved about this book, unfortunately, it just did not work for me. The first few chapters definitely impacted on my ability to become fully invested in the story and characters. It was hard to get going with reading. Paige seemed to always be carrying around this woe is me attitude...even in the midst of the wonder that was her burgeoning relationship with Adam.

Then she takes many actions that were wholly incompatible with what she tells us is important to her. Her actions make no sense at all. This starts from when she shares about her adventures, to her first and subsequent actions with Adam. I'm uncomfortable with the use of serious mental health issues being used to drive plot points, and this books uses them a plenty.

The romance element with the use of mental health issues, just did not sit well with me at all. It is a very different take, but not for me. I much prefer Melissa's Guardians of Summerfeld series - something that you should check out to really appreciate this author.

I couldn't breath during the last 5%. My heart hurt, my eyes were wet and it was perfect.
Paige- she is a beautiful character with all the attributes I crave. Strong, gentle, afraid, and fearless all in one. Her life hasn't been perfect, but she takes lessons from each and every crap shoot life threw her.
Adam- COMPLEX. There is so much more to him than I can say because I don't do spoilers.
Rainfall takes you through love, loss, finding yourself, love, fighting for love, and what will happen when that love isn't yours anymore. Paige and Adam have a love that is unique and rare. Stands the test of time, and falters due to no fault of theirs.
It is withstanding love, years and circumstances can't even break the bond. READ THIS!!

I must say that this book shocked, surprised and left me speechless. This story was beautifully written and different from other books I have read. This book had a twist and a HEA that I was surprised by. This story broke my heart in so many different ways that you would have to read the book to understand. Paige was a phenomenal in all that she endures in this story.

Highly recommend because it is a great story.

I was hopeful and in deep despair. I loved it. I hated it. There was an OMG moment that made me shake my head and think WTF?! Definitely not a typical HEA!

This book totally took me by surprise. I don't remember how I came upon this one but I was under the impression that it was just going to be a fluff romance to fill in between the dark stories I tend to love. Apparently, I've encountered the book that would trigger such opposing reactions from me. I loved it, but I hated it for making me love it, only to hate it all over again. To say I loved to hate it doesn't fit, and to say I hated to love it is not as complex as I felt about this. So yes, I'm not exactly making sense, but there's a reason for that. Although I admit, I'm not quite sure what that is.

Rainfall isn't like the typical contemporary romance I read, or even those with mental illness as its ongoing theme. Of course I was excited to read this because my top favorite books involve psychological disorders, and this one seems to have such great potential. From the first part, I was already intrigued by how Paige handles herself. Perhaps my mind was already on self-preservation mode when I kept reading and I knew that something about this book is different, so I was also waiting for the other shoe to drop. The opening of how she met Adam was quite eerie in some ways.

Whirlwind romance isn't really my thing, and the rational side of me insists it just doesn't make sense. Yet, there's something about Adam that would lure you in, and if I digress the part of their initial encounter, Adam & Paige is really great together. And this is where the other shoe (should I say first of many) drops...Paige catches Adam in a compromising position, while he insists of his innocence. From that part, I've already deduced what's been going on with him; he's not particularly blameless, but he's sincere when he says it wasn't him. All these lead to my theory being true.

And perhaps this is where the whole thing unravels (or fall apart).

Things were already falling into its rightful places, and the past is becoming clearer now to all of them. And as things are already shining into a new light, that's where the other shoe (how I wished was the final one) drops, or in my case, hit me hard. Just as I thought I had things figured out because of my initial thoughts being correct, I've been taken aback by this twist. Everything I've come to love about Paige & Adam began to crumble because the Pandora's box has been completely opened.

This may be one of the times when I totally sympathized with the heroine because of the wreck it all brought to her life. Paige had been experiencing one tragedy after another, and the time when she felt happiest, she had to see things fall apart for her again. It almost doesn't seem fair how it happened, and how it could be. And Adam, he suffered enough by having his life taken by others in a twisted way of self-preservation. As they're both finding their footing, and on their way to recuperate, only for all of these to be taken away again, and this time, for good.

I didn't necessarily agree with Paige's escape plan, but I knew why she did it. For maybe the first time in her life, she wants to think about herself, and her happiness. Likewise, she can't fathom as to how things could get so tangled as such. And honestly at this point, I'm so caught-up with her and Adam, that I'm in for whichever choice she makes. I'm beyond my sanity, and revel in the bliss no matter how temporary it may be.

I guess I can see a bit of myself in Paige, and that's why I understand her pain of being torn between wanting to chase her happiness, and doing the right thing. A pity that the right thing doesn't even seem to be the right thing at all.

Undeniably, the story is incredible and the build-up was intense. If I needed a book that would truly catch my attention from beginning to end, this is a sure one. Even until the end, the whole thing kept me guessing, making me wish for something different, at the same time being happy how things turned out. I really had no idea how to respond to this book because I did love it completely, but, I still wish things could be different.

I can't help but think that despite how everything turned out, Paige still thinks of Adam in the rainfall. It's their thing, and no one else can replace that. That, in itself is the reason why I still can't decide how to wrap this up. For a novel to be about DID, this was created intricately. With all the knots being tied, it was a masterpiece on its own.

It was wonderful, I loved Paige & Adam, yet I have to question whether it was real or not. And honestly, I'm wondering if I can look at rainfall the same way again after reading this.

Rainfall by Melissa Delport
4.5 stars!!

“The universe is cruel. Life is not fair. Our ability to feel and to love is our weakness; this is what it means to be human.

This is going to be a hard review to write because too much will give the story away. This is a book that you will need to go into totally blind. I will admit it is a bit of a slow burner in the beginning, but please give this book a chance, because the further you go in, the more compelling the read becomes.

We first meet Paige when she and her boyfriend are moving into their new apartment, he goes out for supplies and never comes back, he is killed in an armed robbery, wrong place, wrong time, but he died the hero. Losing the love of her life Paige swears off men and instead throws herself into her work and her family, more pertinently her father who is ravaged by Alzheimer’s. That is until she meets…Adam.

“Someone once famously said that we should live each day as if it is our last because one day it will be. And I do. I hug the people that I love and I try to do one thing each month that scares me.

Adam sweeps Paige off her feet, instantly hitting it off these two were made for each other. Although it pains her to admit, her feelings for Adam are much stronger than those for her first love. She loves Adam with a passion, that deep all-consuming love and the feeling is mutual. These two together were so good. I was glad that Paige took that leap of faith, she became spontaneous for a split second and that split second changed the rest of her life.

Her life is changed once again, when she find Adam cheating, but this one hurts the most, this is one that she cannot come back from, that is until she gets visitor and that visit gives her the determination to fight for the man that she loves.

This story blind-sided me, just when you think you know where it is going there are twists and turns that you never see coming, but it is those that keep this story unique. I was totally consumed by their story, I felt the emotion and I had a strong connection to both characters. I had tears galore in parts yet I was laughing in others. This book is an emotional journey, these two have adversities to overcome, their path is not easy, but together they are united. They fight for their love and they need that to get through what lies ahead.

I would love to go into details but it would be a travesty and I really cannot say anymore without giving the game away, but please take a chance and give this book a read. If you are an emotional person like me you are going to love it, if you love the element of surprise and trying to unravel a plot, then you will also love this book. My only little nit-pick was that the characters were American yet some of the conversation was typically English, I am sure that this will be picked up by others but other than that I loved it all. Fantastic read.

“If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that life doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be lived.

I usually don't like 1st person books. I find it difficult to immerse myself in them and it always takes me a while to get into the story and this was the case with this book too. That being said, the story itself drew me in. Its not something I have read before and I was thoroughly intrigued by the psychology of the main characters. Not just Adam and his D.I.D. (Dissociative Identity Disorder) but Paige too. I love her happy go lucky attitude and her total dedication to the man she loves.

As I continued reading and became more immersed in the story and the characters, clear favourites started to emerge (no pun intended). I love Adam and Paige and was rooting for them from the start. I just wanted to hug Jacob and smack Simon. And Kyle... Lets just say he will always have a place in my heart.

I had heard so much about this book before I started reading it. I knew there were twists and turns and that it would be something totally out there. I did manage to guess the big twist but even though I knew what was coming, I still held my breath and lets out a frustrated 'Nooooooooooo, it cant be!!' when I read it.

Grab a box of tissues, a glass of wine (or two) and set aside a weekend to read this book. You wont be disappointed..

Hero: Adam
Heroine: Paige

Twist: Adam loves Paige
Twist: Simon loves Lizzy

“Kyle - He is a very strong personality type; he is highly sexed, as I mentioned, and he is arrogant. He is usually the instigator behind any deviant behaviour; he drinks too much and likes to party. You could call him the stereotypical ‘bad boy.

“Jacob is the least dominant of the four;
represents the younger, child-like Adam. Although he is 24 he seems years younger.”

“Simon is an intellectual, quite a snooty academic. He is very inquisitive and demands to know all the facts about his condition. He believes it is his life to reclaim not Adam’s.

TRUST me on this one. This is a book that you are going to want to add to your book list and probably even read a few times. It made me laugh, sob ugly tears and even want to punch someone in the face at one point. No seriously, that one character is a real douche.

Unlike most of the “romance books out there these days with insecure leads this lead is strong and confident I have no idea how she managed to get through what she did, I think that if I were in the situation I’d have bailed. Maybe. It’s hard to explain without giving away the whole story but seriously. Remember how “Making faces was THE book to read this year? I’m pretty certain this one tops that. Actually I AM certain this tops that.

Melissa delves right into the not so much talked about disorders such as Alzheimer’s in the case of Paige’s father and the books leading man has D.I.D (dissociative identity disorder). It’s a heartbreaking story of TRUE love and how things don’t always go as you plan for them to. This is a love story that gives even Sparks novels a run for their money.

And to top it all off? The Author is local. Yup. A jozi lovely.

I've had this on my kindle for awhile now and decided to give it a try because I really liked the cover. This story was so much more than what I thought it would be.
It takes you on a ride that is so unique, with many twists and turns that left me shocked and saddened. This is the type of book that is best to go in blind and read each page with an open mind. I love stories like this that have you so engrossed that reality melts away and you feel apart of these characters lives. While I was hoping for a different ending once I reached the final page I understood why it had to end the way it did. My heart hurt but did mend by the last page. My hat goes off to the Author & I look forward to reading more by her. 4 Stars!
