Today, being Sunday, and having nothing better to do, Saint-Tropez being quite sad without the famous walking bikinis, I decided to write about the books I read at the time when walking bikinis seemed to me as interesting as a solar eclipse by night. So, why not this book, which now - at the peak of my neural maturity, raises certain question marks for me, which disrupts my vision on the ethical system in incidental situations. So, let's recap. One day, while wandering through the forest - the beach in Saint-Tropez being unsuitable for someone wearing more than a bikini - Snowhite stumbled upon a quaint little cottage. Inside this cottage, lived seven dwarfs, each with a personality as unique as their names : Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Happy, Bashful and Sneezy. Snowhite, being the curious soul she was, ( some argue that this would be a specifically female trait, which I completely deny, I being the living example of the opposite ) - decided to stay with them for a while. In this point, I'm already losing the thread, and I can only ask myself some legitimate, common sense questions : 1. Was there an ethical debate among the dwarfs about whether or not to let Snowhite with them, considering the side effects of a woman living with seven unknown men ? How many bathrooms were there in the cottage ? 2. Did Snowhite ever consider the ethical ramifications of her stepmother's obsession with beauty standards ,and how it affected the dwarfs' perception of her ? 3. How would Immanuel Kant's categorical imperative apply to Snowhite's decision to live with seven males dwarfs ? 4. How would Karl Marx view the economic dynamics of Snowhite living with the dwarfs - an example of communal living, or exploitation ? 5. How would Simone de Beauvoir critique Snowhite's role among the dwarfs from a feminist existentialist perspective ? And one last question - admitting the humanistic aspect - to what point can the limits of a woman reach ? Otherwise, I have some suspicions that Snowhite would pee, actually - standing.
Summary: This is the traditional Disney story line of Snow White. A young girl is running away from a huntsman who is in search for her heart. She finds a cottage and decides to take shelter there. She soon realizes that seven little dwarfs live there too! They bond and soon after they became friends, Snow White is encountered with an old lady. This old lady offers her an apple, and she bites it. This was a poisonous apple and made Snow White go into a deep sleep. The only way she could awaken is by true love's kiss. She is asleep for a long time and she is eventually found by the prince! The price kisses her and she awakens from her slumber. They run off together to his castle. Evaluation: I used this book in a book study unit in my Kindergarten placement. It was a digital version of this story book. I rated this book with five stars, because it was a very good depiction of the tradition story of Snow White. Also, it was very easy for the students to understand and they loved seeing the dancing and singing animals. Teaching Tip: I used this in a book study unit. We read every version of Snow White and even the "Rose Red & Snow White" book. We compared the story lines and how the key components of the story did not differ too much. The teacher was teaching the students main idea, characters, setting, problem/solution, and lesson learned (moral). At the end of the unit, we had a popcorn party to view the Disney Snow White movie. As they watched the movie, we discussed each part of the story line and it's significance.
In Walt Disney's story of Snow White, we learn about flawless Princess Snow White who lives in a castle with her wicked stepmother the Queen. Sadly, Snow White's father, the King, has passed away leaving her no choice but to live with the Queen. The Queen was very jealous of Snow White and always competed with her to be the fairest one of all of the land. The Queen would always ask the Magic Mirror 'Who is the fairest one of all?' Then one day, the Queen's vanity got the better of her and she sat out to kill Snow White. Snow White escaped through the deep forest only to stumble across a cottage. But it was not any cottage. It was the cottage belonging to the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White counted on these Dwarfs for friendship and they soon protected her from her evil Stepmother but they were also a pathway to help her find her Prince.
I think that this book appeals to all ages. The visuals and the simple text means that it can be enjoyed by KS1 as well as KS2 children. The brightly coloured visuals set the scene for fantasy tale.

I like the book since I can convey some important common sense about personal safety, which is that do not open door to a stranger and eat anything from the person you do not familiar with to my daughter while I was reading with her. The crucial information will be used on my students in someday. The book-Snow-white is Chinese version. Most of the storyline is the same as English version. This book does not only focus on the story, but also requires children to seek out some certain objects in each page in order to practice and improve their concentration. While I am reading the book, I would interpret the story to the children due to Chinese only. And they can learn easy words, but see how differences of the writing, pronunciation, and the order of a sentence in Chinese. I think children are interested in the book because they can play games, which is finding some hidden things in the book. They may response how to deal with the same situation as Snow White when they face to. However, I will emphasize the part of seeking objects and communicate with children how they handle the same circumstances.
I read the Disney picture book version of this story, and just out of curiosity I read the Brothers Grim version of the story. I had a friend who told me about how the original translations of their stories are pretty insane, and seemed to have been written to scare young children into good morals. I think the version I read was still cleaned up a bit from the original, but there was still one part that was included that I can definitely see why it was cut out of the Disney version. The stepmother ordered that Snow White be killed, and that her heart be brought back to here. The man she ordered to do this spared Snow White's life and instead brought back a wild boar's heart that the stepmother ended up eating. That part disgusted me, but fascinated me at the same time. Now, back to the Disney picture book that we're all familiar with... I think it's really cool how they gave the seven dwarfs personalities and everything. I just realized that that's not something that was in the original version. I gave this book five stars. How could you not LOVE Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?!
I loved all these Disney books when I was a little kid and today I woke up and said to myself why not reread them! I will always stand by my opinion that you're never too old for kid's books! Mainly because of those gorgeous pictures :D After reading through all these kid's books in one day I'm starting to realize that each book has some kind of disturbing element: Cinderella (child abuse), Sleeping Beauty (arranged marriage), Beauty and the Beast (Stockholm syndrome). But after all, Snow White wins the first place in this creepy contest and that is because of that kissing strangers element... Just why??? Couldn't she at least meet him before. Also all the Disney stories lean very heavily on the instant love factor which can be fun at first, but no really after a while :\
As a child this was one of my favorite disney movies, so I thought i would read the book. I love how the book and the movie are similar. However in the book I like the context between the characters more than I do in the movie. Snow White was a beautiful princess with an evil stepmother. Her beauty was what she was known for and her step mother tried taking it away. With the help of the seven dwarfs and her prince charming, snow white survived the step mothers poisonous apple. Today, they recently came out with a movie called Snow White and the Huntsmen. It is a playoff of the original Snow White, but with some twists here and there. I agree with the two girls who had their presentation this week on fables, fairytales, and myths, that these stories do get turned around into more elaborate stories than they were before. Overall, I still enjoy hearing the story of Snow White every once and a while.
Me encantó haber leído este libro a mis primitas y sobre todo sus comentarios durante la lectura, volví a ser niña de nuevo y me entró la nostalgia, los niños tienen una mente brillante.
This book is about a princess, Snow White, who hides in the forest in the house of seven dwarfs to hide from her stepmother. The Queen is jealous because she wants to be known as "the fairest in the land," and Snow White is way more beautiful than her. The dwarfs grow to love their unexpected visitor, who cleans their house and cooks their meals. But one day while the dwarfs are at their diamond mine, the Queen arrives at the cottage disguised as an old peddler woman and persuades Snow White to bite into a poisoned apple. The dwarfs, warned by the forest animals, rush home to chase the witch away, but they are too late to save Snow White from the poisoned apple. They place her in a glass coffin in the woods and mourn for her. The Prince, who has fallen in love with Snow White, happens by and awakens her from the wicked Queen's deathlike spell with a kiss on the lips.
I gave this a 5 out of 5 because it is a classic and fun to read.
I read the book "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". Snow White's stepmother was jealous of her beauty. She hires a huntsman to kill Snow White. The huntsman couldn't kill her, so he let her go. Snow White ran through the woods and came across a small house filled with dwarfs. I liked this story because it shows love, hate, and compassion. I would recommend this book to kids who are learning to read, because it is an easy read.
My kids and I love Disney books. Another good one for bedtime stories. Snow White finds a home and decides to eat their food and sleep in their bad. (kind of sounds like the Three Bears right? Nope) So an evil witch who wants to be the prettiest in the land goes after Snow White as she is known to be the fairest in the land by the magic mirror. Let's just say the story is good, with apple's, dwarves, animals, and a prince. It is a must read.
Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is a fantasy book written by Walt Disney. This story is well known throughout generations and has even been made into a movie. The appropriate age rage for this book is between three and seven years of age. I give it that range due to its colorful imagery that helps young children follow along with the story. At the same time this story requires a young and vivacious imagination which is perfect for young children. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is a tale of a beautiful young princess with an envious step mother. When they princess life is threatened, she is left with no other choice but to flee into the woods where she meets a group of interesting new friends.Through series of events she is rescued from her stepmothers clutches forever. Overall, this book is very well written and due to its cruel nature at some points it provides a great deal of opportunity for classroom discussion. I gave this book four out of five stars, although it is a great story told throughout many years it has advanced terminology that may be difficult for the younger readers to comprehend. Such as the discussion with the huntsman and when they discuss the queen being envious. This will require the instructor or reader to provide the children with additional information about what those words mean. I would read this book to an Elementary class and I believe they would enjoy it, especially with the colorful pictures throughout the book. I also like that the plot of the story can be manipulated into real life situations to an extent. This story can used when discussing other topics such as jealousy and showing the children it is not right to treat others poorly. Despite all of Snow White’s hardships she continued to have a positive outlook and cheerful personality.
Once upon a time, there had been a girl called Snow White. She was born in the snowing day. So, her mother named her Snow White and her mother hoped her skin could be as white as the white snow. The good time always went so quickly. Snow White’s mom died soon. Then, her father had a new queen. The queen was very jealousy of beautiful things, especially beautiful girls. She had a magical mirror. The mirror could tell her who the most beautiful girl was in the world. No matter how many times she tried to ask the question, the queen always got the answer: Snow White was most beautiful girl in the world. So, the queen decided to kill her. She found a hunter and let the hunter bring Snow White into the woods and kill her. The hunter was so nice. He let Snow White run away; he found an animal heart to replace the Snow White’s heart and then gave it to the queen. The Snow White started her escaping journey. In the woods she met Seven Dwarfs and started living with them, helping them clean their houses. During this time a lot of interesting things happened. But, when she noticed Snow White was still alive, the queen decided to kill Snow White by herself. So, she pretended to be an old lady selling Snow White the poisonous apples. Snow white died after eating the apples sold by the queen. Then, the seven dwarfs put her into a crystal coffin. The prince kissed Snow White and Snow white woke up. This is a very classical story with nothing new and attractive. But inside the book are very vivid and colorful pictures. It’s really suitable for kids. The whole book picture is basically drawn by cartoons. The pictures are so attractive that the kids can easily go into the story and enjoy reading it.
This is the modern version of the folktale Snow White. This book is for young readers between the ages of two and seven years old. It is about how a young woman is hiding from her evil step-mother with seven dwarfs, who are miners. Throughout the story, the dwarfs help Snow White defeat her evil step-mother.
This modern version is used to simplify the events of the original folktale. It was made for young readers to understand the basics of the story. So, with the book being simplified it takes away the dramatics of the plot. This is why I deducted it one star in the rating. This folktale is a classic and I feel the young readers are missing the drama and what makes it more interesting. So instead, the author of the modern version uses bright colored illustrations to keep the young readers interested. I feel that young kids should challenge their brain and get used to lengthy books.
Other than that, this modern version did get the basics of the events in the original folktale. The author also conformed to modern day society where bold colors and short texts is what attracts an audience. Therefore, that is why I gave this book four stars.
If you've seen the film then you know what to expect here. I let my nearly 6-year-old daughter listen to the CD whilst reading the book. The CD has two tracks which run 15-minutes in total. The first track is the reading of the story and has chimes ringing for when the page in the book needs to be turned. Track two of the CD is the classic Hi Ho song.
And the voices of the characters are like the ones in the film.
The book is well laid out with nice full page pictures running through with pages of text next to them with plenty of white around the text so that it isn't too much.
The CD itself fits into the front cover of the book with a plastic covering holding it in, and the book is hardcover too. This means it isn't as flimsy as some other books that come with CDs where the CD holder gets ripped out by little hands.
Most of all I think this book is ideal for girls who are familiar with the Snow White film and are learning to read, so that they can give their parents some quiet time as they go off somewhere to listen to the CD and read the book.
Might have to get the other ones in the series now.
This is a Happy book and there is no need to feel Grumpy about it as it is just what Doc ordered and don't be Bashful abut saying so! And there's no need to think yourself Dopey ii you do enjoy it but if you do feel a little Sneezy, you certainly won't feel Sleepy as you enjoy the well-known story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Beautifully illustrated by the Walt Disney Studio (from the film it looks like) the wicked stepmother is jealous when the mirror she looks in says that Snow White is the fairest of them all and when she sees a handsome prince come along and pay attention to her that puts the tin hat on her emotions.
There was only one option, Snow White had to go! And go she did and found the dwarfs cottage, which she tidies up and lives happily with them - for a short time anyway. Because once stepmother gets news that she is still around she takes steps to change the situation. And she does with some heavy disguise and a magic spell.
But Snow White can't be got rid of that easily as the handsome [prince finds her again and, well, you know the rest and it is a Happy read!
We own four of these little Disney books that retell the stories of movies, and this was the last one for me to read to Natalie. I didn't think the illustrations captured the beauty of the film as well in this one as in Sleeping Beauty, but they still tell the story well. I didn't like how Snow White was so trusting of the witch when she had just been warned about strangers. Also, of all the classic fairy tales, this one does have the most limited view of women - evil and vain or pretty, sweet homemakers. I felt the romance was more rushed than in the other classics as well, but maybe that is because there just isn't as much story to work with? Anyway, the adaption from film to movie was fine, the short comings I have are really just for the fairy tale itself.
I would recommend this book for the primary grades, second through third grade, due to the lengthy pages. I would categorize it as traditional literature fantasy.
This is a classic story that I grew up reading, and eventually watching. I always found it so interesting that she was comfortable walking into a random house. My parents always taught me the "stranger danger" phrase, so I would have never done that. I think that the dwarves are super cute, and they were always my favorite characters. It's crazy that there are so many alternative endings/versions of this story. This one is totally appropriate for children, but some are not.
Someone who doesn't have the intense nostalgia that I have for this movie will probably be a bit bored. Most of the illustrations are rough black and white drawings from preproduction rather than full color illustrations. My one complaint is that the text on the page doesn't always really match up with the pictures. A lovely book and a lovely gift.
