this series as a whole is one of my favorites of all time. probably my actual top series of all time if iâ€™m being honest with myself. i kind of always forget how much i love it until i reread it. and then it just punches me in the gut. it doesnâ€™t take a lot to make me cry but i outdo myself with this series. you might think, â€œthereâ€™s not a lot to cry over in the first book, surely like only one or two truly emotional parts maybeâ€� but youâ€™d be surprised because i started crying no less than 5 times. sometimes iâ€™d cry over something and then 4 or 5 chapters later iâ€™d think about the reason i was crying and iâ€™d start crying again. i just love these characters so much.

every time katniss volunteers for her sister and primrose is screaming and the parallels of rueâ€™s name being called, and no one volunteering for her. and i think of her, what, six? younger siblings watching her. ugh and then thresh. donâ€™t even get me started on thresh but i just love him so much and like this isnâ€™t a spoiler by now but if you didnâ€™t know like everyone dies in this book ok but iâ€™ll never get over thresh dying. i donâ€™t know why it hits me so hard but it does. like almost as bad as rue.

and then also like everything about peeta. iâ€™m 100% team peetaâ€™s happiness and i wish we talked more about him and his family and his terrible mother and the lack of a relationship he has with his siblings. like i just want the series in his point of view sometimes but also no.

and i love how we have this boy. this blonde, blue eyed boy who wins wrestling tournaments and can canonically throw 100 pounds bags of flour around no question. and he cries and he talks about his feelings and he protects katniss but letâ€™s her protect him in return and he knows she can take care of herself.

i love katniss. i donâ€™t have words. i really donâ€™t. but she inspires me and she drives me crazy and she makes me cry because sheâ€™s just so real. and i feel like people downplay how much sheâ€™s been through. like this girl became the head of her family at eleven? her mother was so depressed she wasnâ€™t functioning and katniss had to learn how to keep her family alive. that itself is a big deal. then you add on the hunger games, watching people kill each other, having to kill people, watching someone you care about die. and people complain about her ptsd in mockingjay.

anyways, iâ€™m getting ranty. my point is, i love this book so much. if you still havenâ€™t read it, you should definitely give it a shot. ...more "
