Former Secret Service agent and star of Bravo’s Spy Games Evy Poumpouras shares lessons learned from protecting presidents, as well insights and skills from the oldest and most elite security force in the world to help you prepare for stressful situations, instantly read people, influence how you are perceived, and live a more fearless life.
Becoming Bulletproof means transforming yourself into a stronger, more confident, and more powerful person. Evy Poumpouras—former Secret Service agent to three presidents and one of only five women to receive the Medal of Valor—demonstrates how we can overcome our everyday fears, have difficult conversations, know who to trust and who might not have our best interests at heart, influence situations, and prepare for the unexpected. When you have become bulletproof, you are your best, most courageous, and most powerful version of you. Poumpouras shows us that ultimately true strength is found in the mind, not the body.
Courage involves facing our fears, but it is also about resilience, grit, and having a built-in BS detector and knowing how to use it. In Becoming Bulletproof , Poumpouras demonstrates how to heighten our natural instincts to employ all these qualities and move from fear to fearlessness.
Evy Poumpouras is a former United States Secret Service Special Agent, co-host on Bravo TV's series Spy Games, author of Becoming Bulletproof, and national media contributor who covers national security, law enforcement and crime. Evy has an MA in Forensic Psychology and an MS in Journalism from Columbia University. She is an adjunct lecturer for the City University of New York where she teaches Criminal Justice and Criminology. Evy is also the recipient of the Valor Award - the Secret Service's highest honor for her acts of heroism on September 11th.
Part memoir, part self-help book. The author does a great job helping the reader sort through normal fear responses, what's behind them, and how to respond with intuition rather than panic.
The book is divided into three sections: 🦕Protection (smart mode rather than fight or flight) 🦕Reading People (lie detection, intuition, etc) 🦕Influence (commanding respect, integrity, kindness)
This is a secular book that ends on personal power, though it's grounded on solid moral principles.
I love this woman. A Greek, 5' 2", 48-year-old, unbreakably fierce, former United States Secret Service agent shares her insights into being the strongest version of yourself. We're talking mental resilience, reading people, detecting deception, influencing others, commanding respect, establishing rapport, and not allowing fear to confiscate you. From now on, Evy will forever stay with me as a silent guide on how to lessen the energy of my own apprehensions.
It was a book I enjoyed until about half way. I enjoyed her story more as a secret service agent rather than her bulletproof tips and recommendations to live a successful life that were generally common sense measures. I expected more out of this book and will probably not read another by this author.
My son sent me a link to a podcast entitled The Diary of a CEO. The host of the podcast interviewed this author. I found the interview interesting and decided to listen to the audio version of this book. Highly recommended.
I started this book with low expectations, but boy was I wrong. Perfect mix of Secret Service talk, safety, self defense, communication advice, and people reading skills. Excellent read for all to enjoy, definitely recommending to others!
Had some interesting tips and tricks on interactions with others, as well as personal stories from her time in the secret service. Interesting and practical advice
Purchased on Amazon: I loved the book. I plan to re-read the book in a few months. I loved the way that she wrote this book. It is written with so many trial and error instances that makes her style so genuine, informational and still so human. I am for sure an Evy fan after reading her work!
