I’m so happy, this was absolutely gorgeous! I was worried because I just read Noticing, which after high expectations (noticing is one of my very favorite things to do in life, and Kobi Yamada a favorite thinker), only came together in the end. The same lush movement in the art work now pairs with an exalting read.

Exactly what I didn't know I needed.
Not sure kids would get into this, because I feel like it will need some life experience to really resonate. A kid might just think adults are being preachy.
But I think this is perfect for graduates, for folks who have experienced a setback or a hiccup in their plans...

My heart! This book has beautiful illustrations and an even more beautiful message! So good for this recovering perfectionist’s heart, and I imagine would be equally fantastic for kids as well 😂 but sometimes even we adults need simple reminders of important things that we don’t hear often enough 💓

Another inspiring story to teach life’s important lesson by Kobi Yamada. I absolutely LOVE the illustrations by Elise Hurst. I want to read this book over and over and over again.
I do think this would be a fantastic book to gift to graduates or friends starting out on new journeys in life or those that fear beginning new journeys.

This story was amazing! Erin Phillips read this to me over Facetime, and now I'm forever changed. The message is so sweet and spot on, and I definitely cried at the end.

Beautifully illustrated life lesson. Mr. Yamada encourages a reader to TRY and try again even if we fail. Its the only way to get better and to take steps to where we want to go.

Versuchen ist ein wunderschönes Buch für Kinder ab 6 Jahren. Wobei ich es ehrlich gesagt eher nicht als Kinderbuch sehe.
Versuchen hat gerade einmal 48 Seiten, davon sind alle großflächig illustriert. Den Stil von Elise Hurst kann man schon am Cover erkennen. Die Zeichnungen sind zum größten Teil schwarzweiß und eher wie mit einem Kohlestift gezeichnet, leicht verwaschen und nicht so detailliert. Mir haben sie sehr gefallen. Ich finde aber auch, dass das Buch etwas düster dadurch wirkt und ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ein 6-jähriges Kind das Buch so ansprechend finden würde. Sei es von den Zeichnungen oder der Botschaft.
Denn ich glaube, die Botschaft kommt bei Heranwachsenden und Erwachsenen viel mehr zu Geltung. Da diese in der Regel kopflastiger sind und sich oft selbst im Wegstehen. Anders als bei Kindern, die noch viel experimentiert freudiger sind. So finde ich, ist das Buch ein super Geschenk an Menschen, die vielleicht zu viel nachdenken und davor zurückschrecken neues auszuprobieren, auch wenn es sie sehr interessiert. Oder an jemanden, der etwas neues Versucht hat, dieses aber gleich wieder aufgegeben hat.
Ich glaube da kann dieses Buch inspirierend sein und es ist eine schöne Geste. In Versuchen geht es nämlich, wie der Name schon sagt, darum etwas zu versuchen. Und da gehört auch dazu, dass man scheitert und Fehler macht. Wie heißt es so schön, es ist noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen. Leider machen wir uns oft aber selbst druck. Wenn wir etwas nicht gleich können, dann sind wir halt zu schlecht dafür und lassen es. Was wirklich schade ist, besonders wenn unser Herz dafür blutet. Dies behandelt Versuchen am Beispiel eines Bildhauers.
Fazit:

Wer hat es nicht schon erlebt: Man probiert etwas neues, doch das Ergebnis fällt nicht so aus, wie man es sich gedacht hat. Ein Gefühl des Versagens und der Enttäuschung stellt sich ein, man ist entmutigt. Ganz klar: einfacher wäre es, die Sache auf sich beruhen zu lassen und aufzugeben. Allerdings ist noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen, Fehler sind menschlich und absolut okay. Man lernt sogar noch aus jedem Fehltritt und wird nur durch Übung besser.

I’ve cried multiple times reading this book. It teaches you a great lesson about how you should keep trying and never give up on yourself. Failures are only proof that you tried.
There is a quote in the book that stuck with me.
“The truth is, we are all failures. The dreamers, the doers, the creators…Being a failure means you loved something. You cared. It means you stepped forward and you didn’t hold back, you tried.�
This was touching and it always inspires me to try things I always thought I could never do. Another great book by Kobi Yamada ❤️

Wonderful story about a young boy who learns about the value of persistence and learning from mistakes from an accomplished sculptor who takes him under his wing. The illustrations are AMAZING! Kudos to Elise Hurst.

I love this book.
The illustrations are stunning.
The story and message are beautiful but in certain parts, it does feel rushed/forgotten. I wish there was more to this story.
Overall, it is a great story for young children and reminds them to keep trying even if they have failed. Failure is a part of the process of learning.

Kobi Yamada deserves an award, I don’t know what, but he does. I wouldn’t say it’s the typical children’s picture book because of it’s realism. While other authors skirt around the moral/meaning of the book, Yamada attacks it. He brings words to the struggle in this book and clearly tells the reader what should be done in response to the struggle.
Love his work. Respect to Mr. Yamada.
