Great follow up to her debut novel, "Extant". Chymist picks up where Extant left us wanting more and delivers even more internal turmoil for our series heroine as she follows the clues to her past and unravels the lies of the world. Chymist is great as a fast fun beach read, but is also able to withstand a deeper reading, providing meaning to the reader, especially those young readers striving to find their own power in the world of adults.

My favorite part of the Coelacanth Project series is the teen friends and their interactions, they feel so genuine and seem to have both a façade and a depth just as personalities in the real world do.

This is another ending that is both satisfying but also really has me asking for the next installment... now please.

Chymist is a force to be reckoned with: even more world-building, political intruige and page-turning scenes. I felt all the feelings.

I leave you with this quote from Chymist: "Through interlaced branches overhead, a sea of stars blinked down an eternity away from her. They were beautiful, but to shine they had to burn.ÌýÌý Perhaps pain is the price of existence."

Book 2 is every bit as good as book one. An amazing author. The development of the characters is extremely well done and the plot is a real page turner. I would highly recommend.

Even better than book one, the last 100 pages just kept building and building, I didn’t want to put it down. This book our heroes began to figure things out and go on the offensive. The character development was very impressive, and every time you get answers.there are more clues to where the story is going but you find yourself with new questions! Can’t wait for book three!!!

I highly recommend to any age group.

This book is even better than the first! I thoroughly enjoyed Book 2 of Sarah Newland’s series, getting to follow Natalie and her friends deep into enemy territory, learning about Nautilus in a way we’ve never been able to before. Indoctrination, power, fear–Nautilus continue to be masters of politics and up their game at every step. Newland does a remarkable job of subtly pointing out that it’s those in charge that can tend toward evil and that those in the recruitment halls, those following orders, could really, honestly be there because they think Nautilus is leading the world to peace. There was one time where I started wondering if Natalie and her crew might have got it all wrong, maybe Nautilus were good? Such is the powerful writing of Newland.

Newland also does an amazing job of hooking you in, building tension and upping the stakes. My heart is racing just writing this as I think about all the adrenaline-filled scenes where I just hope they escape/survive! And it’s worth noting that there will be tears. There are times where this book yanked at my heartstrings. But as Newland writes, “perhaps pain is the price of existence--and falling in love with characters!

I loved the dual POV. It’s always fun as a reader when you know something the characters don’t, and following Leo separately to Natalie was super fun. I enjoyed seeing their storylines start to converge and anticipating if/how they’d meet again. And I thought Edwin was a fantastic character to add. Somehow he brilliantly added levity and seriousness to the novel, someone who knew more than our protagonists and who was more than the reader realized.

I’m hoping we find out more about Brant’s betrayal in the next book as I didn’t feel like I totally understood it. Like, I get he feels an obligation/connection to his father but he also has an incredibly strong connection to the friends he’s grown up with, they are kind of his family. So I’m interested to learn more about his motivations and decision making on this one. I must say that I loved the way Newland had us thinking Brant is trying to confess his love to Natalie when it’s actually something very different!

All the descriptions of tacking are magical, they make me smile and wish I could tack. I mean, wouldn’t that be amazing?!

I can’t wait for Book 3, to see how this all wraps up and what questions Newland leaves for us to answer ourselves. As we know by now, question everything!

Book 2 of the Coelacanth Project brought us deeper into Nautilus and even more confused about what the Coelacanth Project is and why it's so important. Lives are lost, hearts are broken and so many lies are told you don't know who to trust.
In Book 2 we find Natalie struggling with placing the blame for everything that has gone wrong on herself, which is a dangerous game to play. Without much guidance and puzzle pieces being added to her pile almost daily, lines blur and nothing makes sense.
Author Newland kept me on my toes as Natalie, Leo and friends raced across the pages trying to figure out what seemed like a million secrets before time ran out on their parent's lives and whatever mysterious future that lay hidden just beyond their reach.
I am excited to see how this all continues in Book 3!
