Combining some good points, with some pseudo science, the book presents a kind of pseudo-religious prosperity gospel, which results in the potential for a type of moralising elitism.

The focus on meditation, mindfulness and the importance of managing your thoughts, makes some good and significant points. These are evidenced ways of improving people’s feelings and attitudes and it is helpful to remind readers of them.

The book becomes more problematic in its portrayal of ‘visualisation (8%). Science has evidenced that visualising success can ‘work, because it brings an alignment of ‘inner states, thus making the mind and body work in better harmony.

But the book jumps from this fact to assert that visualisation can change the ‘outer world around us. We hear that emotions can change reality (59%). But there is no evidence for such a claim. Visualising an (inner) pile of gold in your mind cannot make an (outer) pile of gold appear on a table. Otherwise, why would commercial companies waste time and money digging mines?

A significant part of the book is an attempt to explain this odd idea, showing how ‘inner states could create ‘outer outcomes.

The first suggestion is that Quantum Mechanics shows that reality consists of vibrational energy, so if we vibrate properly in our ‘inner states, we can change the vibrations of the ‘outer world.

This idea is a misunderstanding of Science. The central problem for modern science is that reality seems to behave differently at large scale, and at quantum scale. The central insight of science is that you cannot generalise truths from the quantum realm to the realm which we are familiar with. But this is exactly what the book does. So, it is appealing to pseudo-science.

The book tries a second strategy to explain how ‘inner states create ‘outer outcomes, when it appeals to the Law of Attraction. We ‘attract what we feel (8%) so if we are full of positive emotions, we will attract positive outcomes. But this idea is based on the fallacy of equivocation, using the word ‘positive in different senses. There is no evidence that thinking (ie ‘inner states) can directly cause ‘outer outcomes, like piles of gold to appear. So, it is pseudo-science to assert otherwise. This suggests that when people appeal to examples from their own life to justify it, they are confusing correlations of good fortune with causation of good fortune.

A third attempt to justify how ‘inner states could cause ‘outer outcomes takes the book into its odd semi-religious doctrine of manifestation. Described as ‘a meeting of science and wisdom (5%), it is the claim that the universe is an entity, like a person. It ‘responds to people (39%) and sometimes ‘tests people (51%). Thus, it is the universe which changes people’s ‘inner states into ‘outer successes, ‘as if by magic (2%).

The author is careful to avoid identifying the universe with a ‘god, but she does occasionally use the word ‘divine. We hear, for example, that ‘Divine timing is the timing of the universe, of an energetic force greater than ourselves (81%).

So, ultimately, the book’s central idea seem to become a kind of religious idea with a godlike universe, which converts people’s ‘inner states into ‘outer outcomes.

Unfortunately, this version of religion has some ugly implications, as it makes ‘salvation dependent upon your own efforts. You, and you alone, are responsible for making manifesting work. You must avoid being ‘vague (8%) and you must avoid ‘fear and doubt (17%). ‘You can only manifest what you truly believe you are worthy of attracting (14%). You must be proactive, otherwise it will not work (38%). And you must be ‘grateful (63%). Then, all you must do is have an ‘unwavering faith in the universe and you will definitely receive the ‘magic of manifesting (79%).

This is an ugly moralising elitism which early Christians dismissed as ‘Pelagianism. It makes the person solely responsible for their own outcomes (59%). So, it has the consequence of meaning that victims are essentially to blame for their bad outcomes. If victims were to just try harder with their visualising and manifesting, then they wouldn’t be suffering bad outcomes like being a victim of abuse. If they tried harder, the universe would be rewarding them by transforming their lives with manifested positivity.

This is wrong, and its implication is repugnantly unfair when it implies blame for victims. Sometimes the world can be against people, whatever they do, and no matter how hard they try to change their circumstances. This is because the book is wrong. 'Inner' states do not directly cause 'outer' states. So, people cannot be solely responsible for thinking, visualising or manifesting themselves to success.

Ultimately, Manifesting is based upon pseudo-science and it implies an ugly model of moralising elitism underlying its claims. It is not a set of ideas which can be recommended.

3.5 stars rounded up

This book has been everywhere amongst the influencer community I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it would be a lot of “hype. I bought this book for research purposes as apposed to wanting to learn about manifesting, however I was pleasantly surprised.

The word “manifest is so overly and misused that it didn’t appeal to me at all. I have always seen it as a term people use to attract “material things they want without any action at all. However this book took you through a step by step guide of some important self development steps such as gratitude, limiting beliefs and self love that allow you to become magnetic to attracting what you deserve.

I liked how this was broken down, the steps / lessons were all ones I was familiar with through my own self development journey but it was nice to see them together and I had some thought provoking moments.

I think this book could be eye opening for someone who isn’t familiar at all with self love, gratitude and visualisation but perhaps those who are this book might not offer too much.

It was a very short read (150pgs), but I think for the stage I am in of my own self dev journey it lacked substance around the science behind manifestation that I’d have loved to have read however I do think this book is geared towards complete beginners to self development and in which case science may be a little too much to read about if you’re a newbie!

All in all, I’m a big fan of Roxie’s and think she’s done a great job at making some key self development lessons accessible to all in a digestible format!

Privileged, rich and attractive woman tries to convince readers that her success is down to manifesting.

I read a lot of self-help books and, for the most part, find some use in their pages and some affinity with their writers. This, however, is the exception to that rule.

Roxie Nafousi is privileged, comes from an affluent background, and is trying to convince her readers that they should listen to her based on her own ability to manifest a future- helped ably by her rich father, free home, connections, and attractiveness.

Whilst there are a few scant mentions of techniques which are beneficial to self-development, these are but rip offs of those who have done it far earlier and far better.

One to avoid.

Reading in between the lines I can’t help but ignore signs of a conceited author.
Setting out to be a socialite says she wanted to be associated with high profile famous people. She hasn’t changed much from her days of getting with the wealthy artist as she claims, she then got with an actor. She still only associates with influencers or famous people. She wants to be in that world. You can only stay in that world if you also make something out of yourself and have status yourself. So from becoming the nobody girl with no talent she made herself a motivational coach/author, so now she feels she’s part of that clan and feels like she fits in. This is the influencers world. Very hollow, superficial, insecure and chasing fame and money.

All the examples she gave of manifesting was not due to manifesting, it was her reaching out to her contacts. It was not hard for her to manifest these things at all. She was able to use the examples to sell the concept of manifesting.

She also got into selling the idea of manifesting at the right time when the market is booming and self development is on the rise. She is excellent at convincing as most motivational speakers are. There’s a lot of vulnerable people who seek comfort in this form of entertainment. She could not sing or act like her fellow peers, so this is her gig and her talent. Her claim to fame and getting to feel like a famous celebrity that she so longed for.

Her wanting to help people is her talking BS. She’s also said “I know I’m a good person so don’t care what others think on her Instagram stories. A good person never has to state they are, they just are. She also has said in a podcast “I feel like I come across self centred to which the host comforted her and said she she definitely didn’t. She loves people telling her what a good, humble person she is. These are the people she surrounds herself by. If she is so conscious of coming across self-centred, why does she continually keep posing and posting superficial things about herself on Instagram? Do we really need to see 5 outfit changes a day? It’s because she needs compliments and attention.

Trust the Universe

I feel grateful that I came across this beautiful book. A book that now stays on my bedside table, and I look up to it every time I am in a tough situation.
@roxienafousi shares the 7 steps to manifest and live our best life. While she shares about how we have the power to create and live our Dream life, she shares about how our perspective plays a big role.
I loved the way this book is created, with apt examples, exercises, questions for readers and a practical approach, it's an inspiring read that will help you while you manifest.

While there are many things to learn from the book and quotes and lines to look up to, here are the things I learned from the book and are going to stay with me forever.

🌻on the road to manifesting your dreams, don't forget to enjoy the journey that takes you there.

🌻Notice the little things.

🌻Where attention goes, energy flows.

🌻Our vibe matters.

🌻the universe knows you are worth more than the thing you desire.

🌻sometimes, when things are falling apart, they are really falling into place.

There are many other things to learn from the book while we begin our journey of manifesting. Reading this book gives positivity and a new perspective.

A a light, candid and perfect read.

I've listened to a couple of books about manifesting and this one had extremely high ratings on Audible. All the more reason to give it a listen, right?

Although I do believe in the power of our minds and that everything we do and achieve comes down to our mindset, I think manifesting is definitely not for all of us. Especially the last chapter of this book confirmed one thing for me about manifesting and that is that it all comes down to having faith. According to Roxie Nafousi, the author, there are seven steps, all, with the exception of the last one come down to having the right mindset and letting go of your fears and doubts. The final step is about having faith in the entire idea of manifesting. What I really dislike about this is how that final chapter is basically a disclaimer telling the reader that: "If manifesting doesn't work for you, it's because you don't fully have faith in manifesting and the Universe." I think this is a very cheap way to ensure that when manifesting doesn't work for a person, you can just say, "Yeah, I just don't believe that you have enough faith, or maybe fears or doubts are holding you back from fully manifesting your greatest dreams."

Having said this, I do think this is one of the best books on the subject that I have listened to. The steps are helpful and will definitely help anyone to get into the right mindset to manifest their dreams and wishes. What it ultimately comes down to, in my opinion, is having the right mindset and taking risks to make your dreams come true. That means you'll have to work hard for the things you believe in and this boils down to making sure you have a clear goal to work towards to, then working your arse off to make it a reality. Nothing is handed to us by the "Universe".

The Universe is a recurring theme in this book. According to the author we need to have faith in the Universe and it will provide for us, if we have an abundance mindset. This means that as long as you think there's plenty of everything to go around, instead of having a scarcity mindset, that the Universe will provide. This is starting to sound a whole lot like a religion, does it not?

Another thing that started to annoy me about this book was all the success stories of Roxie's clients. These were abundant throughout the entire book and all were pretty much testimonials to her own work, full of circumstantial evidence that her seven steps system for manifestation actually works.

So, despite all these comments on the book, I would still give it a three star rating? Well, yes, like I said, this book manages to illustrate how manifesting works in an easy step-by-step plan. Basically, if you strip down this book to just the steps, without all the testimonials, you have got a basic understanding of how manifesting works. Too bad that the final step is just telling you to "have faith in the Universe", which basically is just a very easy way to explain when it doesn't work for people and another point to prove that manifesting is not for everyone.

All in all, I think I couldn't have done the things I wanted without the right mindset. I do think we are capable of manifesting our dreams, but in my honest opinion this is all about mindset and not so much about having faith in the Universe. The Universe owes us nothing, we are all made of stardust and we have to forge our own destinies, but this all comes down to working hard for the things you believe in and that, to me, is what manifesting is all about.

Honestly bookmarked a lot of pages from this book to come back to. Contains so much wisdom and when put into practice, will genuinely transform your quality of life. This book leaves you with such an inspired feeling to get out there and go create a better life for yourself 😁
I didn’t give the full 5 stars because sometimes it got a tiny bit repetitive or long. But this didn’t take away from how truly great the advice is. Defo coming back to read this when I feel lost or demotivated!

-------------------------------------------------
It's not magic - its constant work with yourself.
The book is very similar to the "Secret" and uses other well known books as the point of reference.
Nevertheless - in the simple 7 steps I have managed to find my knowledge reassurance and small holes that needs patching up.
A book like that is worth reading simply for self reflection.

Patiesībā nav svarīgi, zem kādas definīcijas jūs sev to iebarojiet, svarīgi jau ir savas dzīves uzlabošana.

"Sevis mīlēšana ir līdzsvara atrašana starp to, kas tev nepieciešams šodien, un to, ko vajag tavam nākotnes "es"". (57.lpp.)

Roksija Nafusi pavisam kodolīgi izstāsta galvenos un svarīgākos septiņus soļus, lai virzītos uz saviem sapņiem, neaizmirstot pašu galveno- saprast, ka manifestācija nav mistiska labuma iztēlošanās un gaidīšana, tieši pretēji- manifestācija pieprasa aktīvu darbošanos. Es to salīdzinu ar akadēmiskā darba tēmas izvēli.

(118.lpp.)

This was just what i needed to feel motivated for the new year.
Its a simple, beginner friendly, but not simplistic at all, intro to manifestation with a step by step guide on how to really set foot into it.

My sister gave this book to me for my birthday a few months ago and hadn’t really cared much about it until i saw her last week reading it and suddenly i had an urge to read it (yes i am the younger sibling) and tbh im so glad of my jealousy issues bc this book was rlly good.

I mean it did get repetitive at times and there were a few pages that were the exact same thing but phrased differently but overall it kept me entertained and i even took notes 🙀

I loved that Roxie (the author) took time to not only give an overview of what manifestation is in philosophical terms but also in science and physics terms, logos rlly does for me.

Plus the step by step guide is really helpful. Not many self help or books like these give you a thorough manuel of how to get where you want to go, like ive read plenty that tell you «jumanji is this so do it!!» but i am a master procrastinator so unless you give me step by step within more steps on how to do it, im not gonna.

So yeah, overall good, repetitive at times but good.

I am probably not the target market for this book. It is a very Insta book - Shallow, click bait catchy, pseudo-science, written by an “expert with no qualifications and limited experience of the skill they are writing about, very fluffy.

In her own words “Penguin would be publishing my first book-and I had found out exactly one year, to the day, from when I had hosted my first ever manifesting workshop. Pg 147

How can this author consider herself and expert? The book holds no credibility or authority. It borrows heavily from those who have come before.

There are better books out there to spend you time and money on.
