Noxus City is full of criminals, and Lucian Hyun is one of them.
He parades as the city’s prosecutor, free from judgment, while inside, he’s as corrupt as those he condemns. Until he makes a mistake that indebts him to the kind of man he would otherwise prosecute. As part of said debt, he’s sent to retrieve the man’s fiance. Just another of many tasks.
That is until he meets her.
The one who he was only meant to collect.
Noxus City is full of innocent faces, and Sabreena Accardi is one of them.
Born to a world she isn’t made for, her light and spirit dwindle in the cramped confines of her ivory cage. Bartered off to marry a man by the will of her family, she’s certain the life she never truly had, is all but lost.
That is until she meets him.
The one who was only meant to collect her.
Two sides of the same coin, though one side is damaged and the other pristine. To take a chance on love would mean losing it all.
But with everything to gain, it just may be worth it.
Hey there! My name is Lee. I like to think of myself as a bibliophile who belongs to the Ravenclaw house. I write romances that can sometimes be sweet and spicy or deadly and kinky. I'm a firm believer in happily ever afters and men who always make sure their woman is satisfied first. When I'm not writing, I'm drowning myself in a good book, losing track of time on the Nintendo Switch with my kids, and laughing or yelling at one of my husbands practical jokes. Chances is done (for the second time) and now live! Thank you to everyone for your patience as I reworked quite a few things to mesh with the direction of the series. While so much is the same, there is so much that has changed!
Welcome to Noxus City, I hope you enjoy your stay.
Mafia romance inspired by DC villains? IM DONE. #obsessed
I’ve read a LOT of mafia romances and this was such a breath of fresh air! I loved Lee’s spin on this genre!
Lucian is a mafia lawyer and Sabreena is his boss’s betrothed. Lucian is also the one tasked with “obtaining her and is constantly on babysitting duty.
They quickly form and UNDENIABLE attraction. And…come onthey speak on the phone every night for hours until she falls asleep! How is that not the cutest?! My ship was well sailed by that point.
The spice starts off as a lot of as forbidden tension and when it finally snaps, Lee gives you all the spice!
Plus we get a SMUTTY AF pottery scene. If you know, you know.
This was a great forbidden mafia romance and the ending REALLY surprised me!
[Also, after this quote, how can you not relate to Sabreena?
”Maybe I can just live off the grid? Be a tree lady? I can totally see myself in an expansive treehouse, making clay pots to sell so I could expand my house to like five trees.
Omsggsgs! 😩 Lee has reworked on this novel again. Ugh, I can't wait to read it once more. It was my 6th book, and I loved it so much! 💓
I was literally in love with Lucian when I read this book, and Sabrina was my favorite female character. She was so strong, and Lucian was incredibly attractive. I swear, they had the hottest scenes! 🥵
The pottery scene remains vivid in my mind, and it even includes BDSM! 🤭🥺
Also, I'm incredibly happy that the second book is finally being released. Y'all, I waited a whole 10 months for it. It's going to be released on July 18th, and my exams will be over by the 21st! 😎 I just can't wait for it. I'm 100% sure it will be about Dominique and Alexi's brother.
why was this better than any batman adaption ever? and i say that with my entire chest, even though heath ledger as joker has my whole heart. which begs the question of how will i survive when he's the gotham villain getting his inspired retelling in the series? it will never cease to amaze me when an author manages to capture both the grittiness of a mafia romance and still make it soft. and how this entire story developed around a man's therapy sessions and dealing with his trauma is just pleasantly surprising.
So I read this book for my book groups BOTM. I had put it off for a while because it didn’t jump out to me. Unfortunately this was the same while reading it, I hate to say because it had such great potential but I thought it was okay?
There was no real depth into the mafia world, Sabreena or Alexi, everything just kind of touched the surface and never went any deeper. I hope we get a book about Alexi and why he supposedly wants out of this world so much. However, during the “arrangement he did not for a second act like it.
Then there’s Lucian, we learnt so much about him & his meetings with Dr. Hayes and that bloody coin. Now I really liked Lucian, even though he’s in the mafia world he was quite sweet, especially to Sabreena but bringing that coin into the bedroom? No thank you, wasn’t feeling it.
Overall, the book felt a little rushed and there was no real depth to the story or to most of the Characters. Maybe in Dominiques books we will find out a bit more or will hope it is better written. Still not sure if I will read it.
Mafia? Check. Forbidden? Check. Pet names? Check. GHOST LIKE POTTERY SCENE?! DOUBLE CHECK. DC VILLAIN THAT GETS THE GIRLLLL?! TRIPLE CHECK. And the steam was amazzinnggg. Communication is key!
I knew I was going to like this one before I even started it. I’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve read of this author so far and the fact that the characters are loosely based on DC villains?
SAY LESS 💸💸💸
I hope that we get a book for literally all the DC villains. I cant wait for more in this series. We get a teaser for the sequel being released in December.
No excuse me while I go panic about which cover I’ll be spending my money on 😈
It’s not a secret that I am fucking obsessed with Lee Jacquot.
Her books ALWAYS reel me in and I just can’t get enough. I was ecstatic when I found out I was getting an ARC of her newest book and holy moly this one was good!!!!
I don’t read too much mafia but this was a fun dabble into the genre! LUCIAN IS SO FREAKING AMAZING AGH I love him. And did I mention he’s hot af??? Because damn, a lawyer with a dirty mouth…IM HERE FOR IT.
The ghost/pottery scene if you know, YOU KNOW. This book had some fun kinks thrown in and it’ll definitely make the 🐱 happy. Honest ;)
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶
TROPES: Forbidden romance Grumpy x sunshine Forced proximity Mafia romance Villain gets the girl
I really enjoyed this one, and it’s a great start to her new standalone series.
What I loved: 1. Lucian is a great hero, and I loved seeing his back story and how that played into the coin flipping. 2. Sabreena was good heroine, and I loved her development. She got stronger as the book went on. 3. These two together are fire, and I loved the play between the two.
What I needed more of: 1. I wanted there to be more inspiration from the Gotham word. Seemed to me to be just the coin flipping for two faves. 2. It didn’t seem like a lot actually happened with the storyline. There are in this mafia world with threats and impending war and it never happened. 3. It was all resolved very easily.
I did enjoy this book overall, and I’ll definitely pick up the next one. I think I’ve just loved so many of her books, this one just didn’t live up to the hype in my head, even though I loved Lucian and Sabreena so much.
if i don’t have my own personal lucian, i will genuinely cry. i’m being so fr. but the way he’s so attentive to sabreena no matter where they are or the situation is everything. he’s caring, cautious & very hot. lucians personal thoughts were so funny to read as well. we know the way lucian loves one thing. control. IN EVERY SITUATION;)
sabreena essentially was put in such a difficult position, being forced into an arranged marriage. but seeing the way she remains positive in all situations is something we can all take from her. the way she cares for lucian no matter his state & understanding him without many questions just goes to show how mature she is but how good of a person she is.
i love the way this book represents mental issues in men. it was beautiful to see lucians thought process and even more beautiful to see him open himself up. i love seeing how vulnerable he allows himself to be and therefore finding the love of his life.
THE POTTERY SCENE. i don’t think i was breathing while reading it and when i tell u my jaw dropped several time🤭
there is so much tension between the two of them & i love watching it all unfold. the secrets they had to keep just to be together. they are the perfect fit for each other & brings out the best in each other no matter how broken they’re.
My first book after a month hiatus and it was so delicious. I read this in one sitting and devoured it like no other. Seriously I'm convinced Lee Jacquot puts some kind of spell on her books which makes it impossible for me to put them down.
Talking about the characters, Sabreena was a really strong FMC. Even after she gets forced into an arranged marriage she doesn't lose her backbone. She fights back in any way she can. That was honestly really refreshing to read.
Lucian on the other hand was what made this book delicious. My god the things he says and the things he does made me so weak in th knees. But he wasn't just a hot MMC, he's background story was also so amazingly written and so heartbreaking.
“And just like that, hearing him say my name is the nail in my proverbial coffin. If I thought his laugh was something, my name is molten lava. I have to hear him say it again. I need to hear him say it again. - Sabreena
“It’s in this moment, I know. Sabreena is mine. For tonight, tomorrow, and every other day she doesn’t wear a band on her finger. - Lucien
If I thought I loved this the first time, I didn’t know what love was 😅
It’s been a while since I read it the first time so I don’t know everything that was new. However. I liked Alexi much more in this one and I am OBSESSED with Lucien being a LOT more *stabby* even knowing what was coming, the ending had me DiStRaUgHt. WHEN SHE SAID RED I FELT AN ACTUAL KNIFE GO THROUGH MY HEART. Start to finish I was completely hooked (just like I was the first time).
Mafia Man (Alexi) needs to marry Mafia Princess (Sabreena) and he sends his lawyer (Lucian) to “collect her. Lucian and Sabreena fall into a forbidden romance, as one does, and it’s absolutely everything.
The innocent way their relationship starts was so wholesome. There is something so comforting about talking to someone until the early hours of the morning. My only question is when does this man ever sleep?? He’s up until like 6am on the phone with Sabreena and then is a lawyer during the day and helped Alexi with his “jobs at night?? Man’s superhuman.
Okay let’s chat spice. OFF THE CHARTS. The scene of them in her pottery studio 🫠🥵 the scene in his apartment??? 🥵🥵🫠🫠 Lucian flipping a coin to decide if she gets to finish? CRUEL. He also constantly asks her for her consent color which we love. We Stan a man who understands consent. His praise was amazing and him calling her little bird melted my heart.
100/10, seriously. If you like mafia, go read this
I wish I enjoyed this as much as everyone else, since mafia books will always have my heart but sadly it wasn’t for me.
One take I did enjoy was Alexi and Sabreena did not like each other, it wasn’t just another mafia romance book that once they spend time together they fall madly in love. That was the only part I liked.
I couldn’t get my mind wrapped around Sabreena, I felt that she was a little dull, nothing was happening. I was bored. Even with Lucian, the over protective and how he felt the need to say how dangerous he was. I didn’t think he was scary, he used to put bad guys away, and lost his cool once. Killing someone doesn’t make you this scary monster, especially if it was for a good cause. So I couldn’t find it in my heart to find him scary or dangerous. So them as a couple felt forced and something underwhelming.
I wasn’t excited because we knew the ending from the very beginning.
But the writing was fantastic. This is my first book from this author and won’t be my last. This story was just not for me and that’s ok.
I just want to start off by saying that I am completely and utterly obsessed with Lucian and Sabreena. I can't get over this book. I got lost in this world and I never want to leave it. I wanted to stay reading more and more of Lucian and Sabreena.
Lucian is told that he needs to go get Alexi's new wife. What he doesn't expect is to be completely captivated by Sabreena and her blue eyes. As soon as their hands touch when they shake hands they both feel that bolt of electricity go through their body. Sabreena doesn't want to go and be married off because she doesn't even know who the guy is and isn't interested. What Sabreena doesn't expect is to feel drawn towards Lucian. She knows that she should not feel drawn to him because she is supposed to be married off to someone else but she can't help it.
The more and more time that Sabreena and Lucian spend together feelings start developing between them. Lucian doesn't expect Sabreena to want to act on the feelings but they do. Boy, do they act on their feelings towards one another and holy shit the spicy scenes are just hot 🥵 the mouth on that man is wow I needed to cool off.
I honestly just wanted to smack Alexi because he was just a jerk and I hated the things he said to Sabreena because he didn't even make any effort to try and be nice to her.
I can not get enough of this book. Once I started it I could not put it down because I just needed to know what was going to happen. At one point my emotions were all over the place because I just wanted Lucian and Sabreena to be together.
I found the book to be underwhelming in some parts.
Like when I read a book I take it in with my heart and soul but it just wasn't hitting for me. I liked don't get me wrong but the characters are forgettable, to say the least, I found the spice tame and didn't like how she wrote it felt mechanical and didn't flow for me. I get the metaphor of the coin but not in the bedroom don't want to be brought to climax and suddenly we flip a coin to see if I can. That pissed me off.
Alexi - I don't know if we gonna get a book about him later but he was an arrogant prick with no redeeming qualities at all. For life, he wants out of so much you think he would sympathise with Sabreena a little. Just vile and rude to her. The end chapter with his POV is just a pig.
Sabreena - She had her moments and loved when she threatened her mother she is a likeable character but I didn't feel any real depth, unlike Lucian.
Lucian - I was surprised when his dom side came out I thought he was vanilla kind. His confession at the end and what he eluded wasn't shocking and the fact he gave up his life so she could live her life did make me swoon.
Dominique has one word Queen and she focuses on her second book but I don't know if I will read it.
Themes - Morality hit and miss I get what Lucian was saying about no one being ever good or bad and completely agree with this. Still, it seems to revolve around the coin in making decisions/choices and not the human condition of it all. I would like to see a court scene or more of an argument between his old work buddy Zainab. Also felt that I had only just touched the surface of the whole mafia world and didn't get into much detail just the gangs and vague happenings of going to war.
Little notes No talk of birth control Also being like in Don's estate you think there would like a big old security system with cameras everywhere so they could sneak around so easier didn't feel right especially that night of the storm.

Ah Lee!!!! When she announced she was going to do the divine corruption series and it would be inspired by Batman villians i had a total “oh shit moment. And damn she Lee execute!!!! I absolutely LOVED Lucian. Everything about him was perfection and he needs to be protected at all costs. I really enjoyed the character growth for Sabreena and Lucian too. And uhm the BDSM in this book i realllllly liked that too!! Omg it was great. Of course this book has spice, but i enjoyed the plot as well. I am really pumped to see how this series is going to connect. I am pretty confident Lee is going to kill it and we are all going to be simps for her characters!!!
Whew this was hot. Throw a “good girl in and I’m hooked.
Lucian is all alpha male and I loved every second of it. He wasn’t afraid of Alexi and standing up for what he wanted. Lucian knew Sabreena deserved so much more than what was being offered to her. He knew she deserves to be free.
If you’re just starting out with the mafia genre this is a good place to start. It’s not dark and gently introduces you into that world. Again, I highly recommend!
“Then you’ve never been truly worshipped, Sabreena. Every spot, toes included, would need to be kissed. Caressed. Memorized.
I was lucky enough to receive this ARC from Lee 🙏🏻
I was in bit of a slump and this book pulled me out!!
Lucian and Sabreena where both very easy to root for and their chemistry is off the charters..one word. Pottery 🥵
The story itself I enjoyed because it wasn’t too much heavy on the mafia and really into the main characters life together and their own separate issues to overcome. Which was done very well and was realistic!
I have so many favorite lines highlighted that I either relate to immensely or want to go back and read because Lucian is 🔥
Here she strikes again. First of all, thank you so much for the ARC review. I totally loved this book. Well my bar of expectations keeps increasing. I am not even going to talk about it. It was incredibly written and the forbidden aspect made it more interesting. The things Lu *swoon* that man commands in such a way that has my knees trembling. I loved how she desensitized a few things which shouldn't be ignored or frowned upon. Thank you again for writing such a wonderful book. Looking forward to reading your other books.
And can't wait to read the next series of the book can't say Alexie didn't intrigued me.
This is one of those books where you binge-read it in one session and then completely forget the plot. I enjoyed it at first, but near the end, I was just waiting for it to hurry up and finish.
There is very little plot to this book - basically, she is forced to marry a mafia don, but falls in love with a lawyer. The story continues with them meeting up in secret until her fiance finds out - and does he punish either of them? No. Sure, he forces the lawyer into a contract that will bind him for life, but neither of them are really punished. It seems very unrealistic, even if the mafia don didn't want to marry her. And the pace of the book was awful - it skips weeks at a time with nothing happening in between.
I honestly have so little to say about this book... and it's disappointing because I love mafia romances, and I have read a few other books by this author and enjoyed them. But this was mediocre at best (with too many inappropriate scenes to skip). I definitely won't be reading book 2 - and I cannot believe this is a 4 book series. Literally what else is there to say? Sure, she was attacked at the end, but that was so random and unnecessary. It just feels drawn out.
TW Forbidden, mafia romance, forced proximity, grumpy x sunshine, impact play, praise kink, edging and denial play, PTSD, anxiety attack
This is book 1 in the Divine Corruption Series where we meet Lucian and Sebreena. They’re the first couple in this interconnected standalone series. In this series the MMC are all inspired by the personalities of Batman Villains and we get to experience Two Face. Lucian is in quite a pickle as he happens to fall for Sebreena who is arranged to be married to Alexi, his boss. This is a re-release as Lee has reworked the story to make the series flow better. The plot, characters and spice was great.
In summary this book gave me so much anxiety about the main couple getting caught I was about a page away from a brain aneurysm or cardiac arrest. In the end we get our HEA. I'm excited for book 2.
Wendy is my girl and so is Dominique! 🥺
Alexi is a big ole man child that pisses me off to no end. 💁🏽♀
Lucian deserved better but he slayed the boots house down.
The overall character development, plotline and avid attention to the little things from Lucian to Sabreena were all beautifully executed. 🖤
With all of the reviews talking about this book giving DC/Gotham vibes, I was ready to settle in for a dark and gritty mafia read with some forbidden love thrown in for good measure. What I got was a lame, boring plot where nothing much happened, the big scary mafia head not being scary at all and wanting to quit his job (like that's ever happening), not much substance being put into the characterization of the MCs, everyone talking like they are in the early 1900s but there are random smutty thoughts being thrown in which was jarring to say the least and the whole thing reading like bad YA. So yeah... disappointment galore
BOY CAN'T I CAN GET AN AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT HER BEING BETHORED TO A MAFIA ASS AND FALLING FOR HIS LAWYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not apologizing for the caps, I fucking loved this book. Honestly, Mrs Jacquot could give me her shopping list and I would eat that shit up.
Now the book, amazing. go read it bye. the end, thank you for coming to my ted talk.
for real though, the book has everything! Forbidden romance, dark romance, kinky spicy scenes, tragic past, TWO STRONG AND GREAT CHARACTERS!! The story follows Lucien and Sabreena, Lucien works for Alexei indebted to him due to past mistakes. Sabreena is the only woman in her family and even though she kn ows her place in the family, she never thought she had to marry anyone. When Alexei met the girl he was supposed to marry, they hated each other. Therefore, he needed a new bride, enter Sabreena. Lucien was the one who got to pick her up, and their love was instant. They both felt a strong connection since the beginning, and they actually fought about but when Alexis the douche doesnt even want to be next to Sabreena, they develop a friendship that turns out to be more!
I honestly can't wait to read Nikolai's book. Now, I reallyyy really hope Alexei dies & I'll stand by it. I just hated him so much, he talked so horribly to Sabreena and he doesn't even want to be a don. Therefore, i hope he dies or Nikolai or Lucien get the business.
Both characters are great, and so good! I honestly can't wait to hear more about them in the future, cause it's going to be awesome and i just know it. Like they actually chose each other!!
Tropes: Forbidden romance, age gap, arranged marriage (for her), BDSM, edging and all sorts of fun kinky shit <3
Chances is the first book in the "Divine Corruption" series. Sabreena is a girl who is born into a mob family but the lifestyle doesn't suit her, especially not when she is forced to enter an arranged marriage to form an alliance between families. Hurt by the betrayal of her dad, stuck with a beast as a fiancee and ripped from her life, she finds herself falling for the quiet lawyer, the one who came to collect her, the one working for her fiancee. Lucian is just as drawn to her. He has his own set of problems and reasons for being in this life. Would he risk it all for a chance of her?
I was a bit hesitant to start this book because it's inspired by Batman villains. I don't know anything about Batman or the world, but I was glad to find out that you don't have to know anything to enjoy it. Lucian was really interesting. I really enjoyed him as a character. Sabreena was also an likeable character. She did felt a little bland to me at times, but I did like their chemistry together. The story was pretty fast-paced and I liked how their relationship developed. I did want a bit more showing instead of telling though. The ending was good, the last bit before the confession felt a bit out of left field for me, but I liked how they ended up.
Lee Jacquout has quickly become an auto-buy author for me. I loved all her books, her writing is so addicting and her smutty scenes are really hot. I didn't love this one as much as her previous books, but I still finished it really quickly and it was a good read. The setting seems pretty fun and I'm curious to see who the next book will be about.
