The bestselling author of "Real Moments" and "Are You the One for Me?", Dr. Barbara DeAngelis shares her unique and inspirational ideas about confidence. Readers will learn the true meaning of the word "confidence" and how they can find its source inside themselves.
Barbara De Angelis Ph.D. is one of the most influential teachers of our time in the field of relationships and personal growth. For the past twenty-five years, she has reached tens of millions of people throughout the world with her positive messages about love, happiness and the search for meaning in our lives. As a best-selling author, popular television personality and sought after motivational speaker, Barbara has been a pioneer in the field of personal transformation as one of the first people to popularize the idea of self-help in the 1980's, and as one of the first nationally recognized female motivational teachers on television.
Unless you have embraced failure, you are not confident. I'm kind of digging that whole idea. . .
Also, think of reasons why you should be happy with yourself RIGHT NOW, as opposed to that whole thing where you are happy conditionally, or when you accomplish said goal.
Anyway, well worth the four bucks and an afternoon I spent reading it.
My boss recommended this book and I picked it up without really looking at it beforehand. Fortunate for me, because I think I might have passed on it had I read the back cover.
This is a super quick read with a message about the silliness of basing your confidence on past performance of specific tasks. Like along the lines of, I taught a DITA class and was successful, so now I'm confident teaching DITA classes. The author points out that this is awfully narrow. We should focus instead on the fact that we were faced with a hurdle and we did everything within our power to overcome it and therefore we should have confidence in this ability. Subtle, but I like it :)
I've been reading self help books lately because my self needs help. Unfortunately, much of my experience in the genre has been glowing testimonials about how transformative it is to develop/have/find whatever the book is about, cheerleading, and vague suggestions like "have more faith in yourself" and "listen to your inner you". This book is only a hundred pages, talks about harmful adapting tactics, why we choose them, how to stop, and a few helpful suggestions--even if I can't follow all of them.
This is the second time I read this book. The first time, it was my first foray into the subject. I still find it incredibly valuable and helpful. However, now there are other books that have complementary information that is also helpful. I like the processes she offers along with the delineations of the three different types of self confidence (behavioral, emotional, spiritual).
I ordered this book on Amazon as a used book since it wasn't available as new. The real book's title is 'Confidence: Your Ultimate Guide to Finding It and Living It.' The book was published by Hay House in 2004 but was written in 1995, almost 30 years ago. It consists of 5 chapters and 99 pages. This is more of a booklet than a book, as you can read it in 1 hour. The last chapter is interesting. The author should have developed her concepts further with real case examples.
