From the internationally bestselling author of The Heartfulness Way comes a journey to the center of our consciousness, mapping a path for readers to connect to their highest self through Heartfulness meditation and guided chakra practices.
When we think of wellbeing, we often think of our physical and mental health—tending to our bodies and minds to find peace, purpose, and connection in our lives. But as Kamlesh D. Patel (affectionately known as Daaji), spiritual leader of the Heartfulness Organization and fourth in line to the raja yoga tradition illuminates, there is a third system we too often overlook: The Spiritual Anatomy.
Acting as a sort of atlas for consciousness, the chakras—the centers of spiritual energy that comprise our spiritual anatomy—lead us back to our hearts, ourselves, and the sustainable happiness and meaning we crave. Along the way readers will learn:
- The role and importance of the chakras - What blocks our chakras and how to clean them - Meditation techniques that bring you closer to the heart’s center - How connecting deeply with our charkas can open our hearts, minds, and souls
As grounding as it is groundbreaking, Spiritual Anatomy is a must-read for seekers, meditators, and anyone who wants to cultivate joy in their life.
Born in Gujarat, India, Kamlesh D. Patel showed an early interest in meditation and spiritual growth. In 1976, as a pharmacy student in Ahmedabad, he met his Guide, Shri Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur (Babuji), the founder and first President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission.
After graduating with honours in 1980, he moved to the US and practised pharmacy in New York City, while also continuing the Raja Yoga system of Sahaj Marg, with great devotion. He continues to excel in both his material career and spiritual life.
Kamlesh continued to follow Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari (Chariji), the second President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, after Babuji’s passing, and has held a number of increasingly responsible roles as well as offering his support to the growth of the Mission worldwide. In October 2011 he was proclaimed as Chariji’s successor, and in August 2012 was appointed Vice-President of SRCM with the full powers of the President, due to Chariji’s failing physical health. Following Chariji’s passing on the 20th of December 2014, he became the spiritual Guide of the Sahaj Marg system, and the third President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission. He is often endearingly referred to as Daaji.
Daaji and his wife have two sons. These days he is constantly travelling, conducting meditation with yogic transmission for seekers worldwide, and speaking at the Mission’s many centres and ashrams, as well as to the general public through newspaper articles, TV and radio. He is a vital role model for anyone wanting to evolve as a human being and expand consciousness. A spiritual catalyst, displaying the perfect blend of the Eastern heart and Western mind, he is able to connect with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, giving special attention to today’s youth.
The idea of a project is that we set a goal and achieve it. For that we develop a plan, understand the landscape and traverse it. Spiritual Anatomy Project is a self discovery project which includes self development, self transformation and finally achieving our best version of self. It is a great inspiration to read this book and embark upon the spiritual journey of the self to realize it’s potential self.
The various centers we go through and the challenges we overcome is nothing but simply adventurous. It is more of an inventure!!
This book is more useful when we practice a system of meditation along with reading this book. Good luck on your spiritual inventory and project of your self !!
If the initial content and galley copy is an indication, this one is a keeper - Imagine ancient scriptures and their wisdom simplified to be applied for daily life and enabling one reach their highest potential with mental, emotional and spiritual stability. Just what we need in today's world. Everyone should have this by their bedside. Can't wait for the release day.
This book is an astonishingly delightful and rewarding read. We all know the importance of structures and anatomy of physical things. A clear understanding of the anatomy enables us to maintain, troubleshoot, and to enhance the structure. Daaji makes us aware of the spiritual anatomy of our being which hosts our vibratory properties such as empathy, sympathy, inspiration, intuition, love, stress, fear and anger. The well being of our physical body is intimately linked to our spiritual well being. The simple and clear writing describes a practical method to attune our vibratory properties to be able to feel and prove to ourselves the Absolute vibration of this creation and go beyond.
The blossoming of Sahaj Marg into Heartfulness that has occurred over the last decade or so is much like the progress of a human from a child to a teen to youth to adulthood. With this writing of Spiritual Anatomy, Daaji has Consecrated Heartfulness and made it available for one and all to evolve from Human to Humane to Divine.
I had an opportunity to read the pre-released version of Spiritual Anatomy and I must say that it is a simple, practical, and easy to understand book from Daaji on the complex topic of the spiritual journey and the system of chakras. A great guide to understanding the basis of spirituality and topics like self-development, mental wellness and consciousness for beginners and veterans in the field of spirituality.
I had the privilege of gaining early access to this book while eagerly awaiting my pre-ordered copy, set to arrive in just a few days. With over two decades of my experience in practicing Heartfulness meditation, this book has been an illuminating guide, shedding light on the correlation between my meditation journey and life experiences.
I loved the opening parable, which mirrors my current struggle in balancing work and life. It brilliantly emphasizes that achieving harmony between these aspects is not akin to a simple act of balancing weights on a scale; instead, it underscores the need for an integrated lifestyle. This insight was a revelation for me.
Often, I find myself overwhelmed by the technical jargon and esoteric concepts present in many spiritual books, especially those related to chakras and energy points. However, in this book, the author offers a refreshingly simple and concise map, making these concepts remarkably accessible and demystifying them. It has provided me with valuable insights into my meditation journey, making it much more comprehensible.
As I continue along the path of meditation, I am looking forward to re-read this book as I progress in the path of meditation. I would suggest this book to anyone who is interested to learn about meditation and get practical suggestions, guidance and steps on how to start, continue and progress your life changing path via meditation.
The concept of the soul's journey and the chakras has deep roots in various spiritual and philosophical traditions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and New Age spirituality. These traditions often suggest that the soul evolves and ascends through different levels of consciousness, with the chakras representing energy centers within the body that play a role in this journey.
I have read about half of the book to date through a pre-launch access of the draft and this book seems to be both enlightening and thought-provoking, offering us a new perspective on the mysteries of human existence and spirituality. I am excited to see what else gets unfolded in the balance of this book. I can already say it is a must-read and a must-keep for anyone who has an interest or even an inclination to know more about how we can advance in our spiritual pursuits with a scientific, rather than a blind faith approach.
Inspiring and transformative. We know very little about the consciousness and its potential. This book describes in detail about the soul's journey and evolution of consciousness, blending that with the chakras, various sub points and their locations. It was fascinating to know the story of the soul.
"The Spiritual Anatomy project" - This book motivated me to explore this further and start conducting my own research, on myself, using the suggestions and practice mentioned in the book. I was amazed when I correlated my experience with the material in the book and so far, it has been very encouraging and enlightening. The assessment tool in this book is practical and insightful. This book is a compilation of an incredible research and should be a reference manual for all meditators and yoga enthusiasts. I feel this will open a new door for the research on consciousness.
This book really makes me look inside myself and see where I can grow and improve myself. The stories he uses to illustrate his points are captivating and stay with me so I can remember them in real life situations. I can feel transformation in my approach to life happening already! Looking forward to gifting this book to my friends and family too!
TL;DR: MUST Read. Great book on self discovery and self transformation.
Original Text: It was a pleasant afternoon while I had a chance to get a copy of this book, I am not a big fan of reading but there was something that sparked in me to read this book, I couldn't wait to be home & get started. Finally as I started reading the first chapter, I couldn't stop myself from continuing. It felt like it was quenching my thirst, it was answering me everything, even those lingering questions that never dared to come to the surface.
I believe each person lives two lives, one the external manifestation of the universe and the other is the journey within oneself. This book delved into the exploration of one's inner self and how harnessing the inner world can enhance our ability to gracefully navigate the external aspects of life.
This book is not just about theoretical knowledge but it provides various practical techniques for integrating into your everyday life. There are also several exercises, self reflection questionnaires that lets you think and introspect, and most importantly Pause! Just being in the present moment, feeling your heart's rhythm, listening to your breath, observing your inner world, thoughts, feelings and needs.
So, here is what I did, I followed all the instructions and techniques in the book as-is, as if I am following a cookbook and very curious to know the result. As I continued reading, I observed something very unusual in me, my approach to handle the daily mundane tasks started to transform. I was approaching life situations with a more calm and clear head that improved my decision making, eventually leading to better life decisions. I was filled with more joy & much kindness, I was able to see the same life situations but with a different perspective, a more empathetic one. I was becoming more observant in the external world so far but as I further continued with my daily practices as prescribed in this book, I was able to observe changes in my internal world too. Example: when I previously sat for meditations, I was either lost in thoughts or had gone so deep that I had no awareness of where I was, what’s happening inside me. But now, I have become a lot more sensitive and observant of what happens inside me while I meditate. With all these new and positive changes in me, I felt like a better version of me was coming to life. And with that, my experiences and enthusiasm kept on further increasing as the clock kept ticking.
This book has something magical, it brought me closer to myself, unravelled a new-Me. I genuinely embrace and cherish the progress I've made so far. It gave an elevated yet simple approach to living life. I am definitely going to firmly stick with the daily practices as prescribed in this book until I unravel the final version of Me.
I am very grateful & thankful to the author for writing this book & enabling others to also explore their inner worlds.
This book offers a new perspective of understanding my personality in relationship to the Spiritual Anatomy within each of us.
As I continue to study the methods laid out in this book, I find again and again that what appears as reactions to circumstances in life is actually an aspect of a chakra that is responding to the situation. What sometimes feels like a mood change is most often in direct connection to the characteristics of the chakra system. Daaji's ability to share his research in a such a simple way has been life changing for an average person like me.
So much joy has emerged upon the development of new awarenesses in grasping how the inner and outer journey actually work together. But it certainly is much more than self-development.
I've written lots of notes and highlighted many passages. Looking forward to the hard copy being released.
I always thought well-being was restricted to our mental and physical existence. I am an ardent believer of “Healthy Mind leads to Healthy Body. However the notion is changing after reading this beautiful work from Daaji. He adds another dimension to it where he targets the spirit behind healthy mind and healthy body which is the very cause of our existence. This books deals with fascinating concepts like chakras (energy plexus) which fuels the soul or spirit in me. It gives practical experience of each chakra through meditation techniques and will certainly serve as a hand book for life.
This is a book for anybody who wants to experience true joy , peace and love in their lives, those who have everything yet lacking a purpose, those who wish to expand consciousness for a refined existence.
This book was very insightful to me, and it cleared a misconception I had about self realization - commonly it is spoken of as a binary state and just happens (e.g. somebody meditated under a tree or in the mountains for a certain period and in the end got enlightened). Reading this book, I can now better understand all the stages involved in the beautiful evolutionary journey of a soul, and I am now convinced it's not mere intellectual understanding but experience and transcendence that takes one to the higher stages. In this book, Daaji gives a clear description of the conditions and spiritual states one experiences along the way and this for me is a super useful map! I also get hope, encouragement and confidence by reading this book that I too can cross all of these stages during my lifetime through sincere practice of meditation and guidance of a capable guru (a guru is a true friend, who serves without any expectation)!
I am a practicing allopathic doctor and wondered how could spirituality have its anatomy. I also wondered how can evolution of consciousness happen. As per the entire scientific world, a human body has its anatomy and flora and fauna undergo evolution as per the Theory of Darwin. This book came as a surprise to me and an eye-opener about topics i had never encountered or thought to exist. Now that I have read the book as a non- practitioner of Heartfulness way of meditation, it's a feeling of eureka for me as regards human body, mind and soul. The soul's anatomy seems more interesting and the journey seems to be even more adventurous rather inventurous in Daaji' words. This book has motivated me to practice this way of meditation out of curiosity and I am glad I attended this reading session out of compulsion from my wife who is an avid practitioner.
If a person like me who has only scientific bent-up of mind can get impressed to explore, experience to evolve and enjoy, then guess all the readers would feel the same. I recommend this book to be read by one and all for the sake of knowledge, experience and expedition into our inner journey like I have already started with one introductory sitting from a heartfulness trainer yday.
So, go and buy your copy, read and enjoy, Do and feel, Meditate and transcend - the mantra of human existence.
I have just finished my first reading of the book ‘Spiritual Anatomy by Kamlesh Patel, ( Daaji) , Global Guide of Heartfulness Movement. My first reaction as I read the book, was ‘As an Indian, as a Hindu, I had no knowledge of the Chakras in the human system. What a revelation this book is! As I continued reading it I could not help thinking, Every Indian, every Hindu, who claims to be follower of Sanatana Dharma, probably should have knowledge the Chakra System. But really speaking Daaji’s writing goes much beyond the scope of the seven traditional Chakras and even the traditionalists would appreciate the new ideas beyond the ancient concepts contained in this book. As one continues to read, the simplicity of the ideas and language, backed by serious research, keeps one fascinated. But when I really reflect, I have no doubt, that this book goes beyond narrow channels of religion, culture community etc. It’s applicability is universal and in that I think lies the beauty of the book.
This book transcends mere belief in chakras by offering a practical method to discover these energy centers within you, understand their qualities and work with them to progress and expand your consciousness. It is more of a practical guide than a theoretical one. It is pretty amazing. You can actually experience a significant shift in your inner state, by cleaning and purifying these anatomical points on the spiritual (energetic) body. Highly recommend giving it a try!
In our pursuit of well-being, we often focus on nurturing our physical and mental health. Yet, Kamlesh D. Patel, affectionately known as Daaji, unveils a crucial aspect often overlooked: the Spiritual Anatomy. As the spiritual leader of the Heartfulness Organization, Patel illuminates the significance of the chakras, the spiritual energy centres within us, in guiding us towards inner peace and fulfilment. “Spiritual Anatomy serves as a guidebook for understanding and harnessing the power of these chakras, offering insights into their role, methods to unblock them, and meditation techniques to align with our heart’s centre. Groundbreaking yet deeply grounding, this book is essential for seekers and meditators seeking to cultivate joy and connection in their lives.
The creator, Daaji, gets motivation from his own Lord’s compositions on otherworldliness and makes sense of in plebeian’s language how exactly find them in the body. The way cherished daaji is introduced here is marvellous and motivating. This book isn’t like history, yet it gives the perusers arrangements on the most proficient method to push ahead throughout everyday life and utilize the present as an amazing chance to develop. It additionally features the nature of each Chakra and its significance in integrating it into our character to make conceivable the advancement of our cognizance to the most noteworthy.
As one keeps on perusing, the effortlessness of the thoughts and language, upheld by serious examination, keeps one interested. This book profoundly shocked me and a shocker about subjects I had never experienced or remembered to exist. Since I have perused the book as a non-expert of the Heartfulness method of reflection, it’s a sensation of aha for me as respects the human body, psyche and soul. I suggest this book for every otherworldly searcher and for individuals who are keen on being familiar with the brain and reflection.
My review of Spiritual Anatomy is based on an Advance Reading Copy. I have read literature from the guides of Heartfulness for many years. I am writing this review with that experience, practice of Heartfulness and a certain commitment to practice.
My experience in reading this book is to feel peace and settledness. The book gives me orientation at my stage; at my condition. It is helpful to me to locate myself and when I pick it up what I find is clarifying and supportive. Maybe my review of this book is helpful as a description of what is within and how it provides it so that you might try reading it.
Spiritual Anatomy is not Daaji's first book. What differentiates this one is not the general direction. All his books are practice orientated and about taking your own evolution in hand. This book expresses the wide scope of spiritual practice based in rajayoga. It is a wealth of experience put in a way that relates to an individual's own experience to allow development of sensitivity and awareness to our own condition. The book is divided into 3 wide areas of spirituality, its goals, and personal evolution that are titled 'Read and Enjoy', 'Do and Feel' and 'Meditate and Transcend'. The first gives context for spirituality and rajayoga. The second is about practice and engages Heartfulness and describes its form of rajayogic practice, introduces chakras and discusses personal burdens and barriers on the path. The third section is a rare description of the journey through chakras' characteristics and their characteristic unfolding and interactivity.
This book is a very pragmatic look into such practice in light of the way we are arranged. This is not arrangements of bones and muscles, or psychology or how we move or our actions. This book is a matter of fact look at the subtle energetic structure of consciousness and how it will influence us as its centres, its chakras, are unfolded what that even means and how our awareness is influenced. This book expresses the relationship of those energetic centres, their interconnectivity, and how they influence how we feel, think, move and ultimately how we evolve. Spiritual Anatomy gives us a threshold to experiences of personal evolution, where to look for that, what we might expect to happen and what we might feel.
Many books are static expressions of chakras, as if they are a terrain that we traverse. Daaji describes this as if it is living, the transforming chakras influencing us and how we influence the transformation of chakras. Our selves have created their energy and we have the capacity to change it. Thus, this anatomy is a fluid space as both our actions and what the chakras do, through which we form our personal way. He paints a picture in Spiritual Anatomy that shows how this is simply another form of natural growth, but one that requires our volition. It locates us at a threshold to enter such a path.
A founder of the practice, Shri Ram Chandra of Shajahanpur (Babuji), published two books over 50 years ago entitled Commentary on the Ten Maxims and Towards Infinity that explore the content of this book as two areas. The Commentary on the Ten Maxims discusses the evolution of personal thought, emotion and feelings. Towards Infinity expresses the state of consciousness at each stage according to the same chakras as this book. The content includes what these two books cover in a different way, and includes four lives' experience, including the author's. Spiritual Anatomy links practice with our energetic structure and the descriptions of stages on the path. It is written in a style reminiscent of a typical popular pocketbook and many self-help books. The tone is like a 1:1 conversation using the pronoun 'you', not 'we and 'our', and not like a lecture nor is it academic. The way it is written makes it very accessible while reflecting experience that is of very advanced attainments.
At the beginning of Part 6, 'The Secret Ingredient', Daaji narrates a story that begins with, "Once there lived a seer who lived with great austerity. One day a young seeker was touched to see the seeker drowned in meditation. Out of reverence he bowed and offered his greetings in silence. ..." A reader might already grasp why austerity is positive, value being "drowned in meditation", and feel reverence for anyone who seems to have such attainments, not just famous persons. Many readers will need to learn what all this means for them. This is a good book for that. In a note at the beginning Daaji points out that the reader has chosen this book, rather than innumerable other activities to use their time.
Does Spiritual Anatomy offer something new? Yes. It brings together an approach that touches daily life within very attainable methods and the spiritual anatomy that represents the whole, pointing to a very high level of attainment. I find that it contains knowledge that is very hard to find like this in a straight forward manner. It is suitable for anyone to develop their own way to step through the threshold to begin their own evolution at a level of full intensity. The knowledge that is represented here will also support experienced people and it gives that in a down to earth way.
Spiritual Anatomy is an extraordinary adventure, where our self-consciousness undertakes a hobo to the verges of certainty and way farther. It also offers a deeper understanding of the inner meanings of consciousness and jot down the roadmap via innumerable practice and endurance. In other words "Spiritual Anatomy" is a hand-held guide with renditions, methodologies, suggestions, pointers, and so on.
This book was presented by Daaji in three aggregates 1. Read & Enjoy 2. Do & Feel 3. Meditate & Transcend
Read & Enjoy is intended to guide you with the significance of Spiritual Anatomy & Soul Origin. Do & Feel talks about Heartfulness practices, demystifying the Chakras, and counsels the consciousness limitations. Meditate & Transcend is dedicated to in-and-out about chakras and corresponding experiences plus constraints that arise in respective spiritual espouse.
The above dissection is presented in Eight elegant parts illustrating the concepts of "Spiritual Anatomy". Every part divulges the essence of spiritual anatomy and its applicability. With the proven ability which Daaji owns this book is unique and quintessential towards the deeper insights of higher consciousness.
#bookTone This is a perfect hardbound book that concentrates and focuses on the spiritual health of human beings. With an emphasis on consciousness, this book offers a handful of recipes and strategies for heartfulness. Daaji's way of elucidation sets a riveting pitch in mastering our brain through spiritual literacy and practices.
#targetaudience This magnificent book about "Spiritual Anatomy" targets everyone who wishes to bring joy in their life through meditation, emotional aid, spiritual transformation cum stability, heartfulness, consciousness, and striking the inner potential. If you are a seeker, meditator, or someone who loves to attain inner apprehension this book is a blind choice.
#chakras: I can bet on this book, none of the recent books I came across has given in-detail explication about the common traits of the chakras, Daaji took an entire chapter and spoke exhaustively about sixteen chakras ( and their elemental constitutions, colors, movements, location coordinates, interconnect, conditions, resonance, ecstatic caliber. He also accentuated the chakra's role in the spiritual anatomy thereby he focused on the levels of chakra and its flowering stages.
The author deep dives further into different regions and respective chakras in the Meditate and Transcend chunk where he unveils the important aspects of the collective consciousness of the human condition via multiple regions. With his thorough knowledge and deeper understanding he presented his exhaustive perceptiveness about chakra regions viz., Heart Region, Mind Region, Central Region, and three additional chakras (root, sacral, and navel chakras).
I am truly honest to admit many of the topics that Daaji illustrated made me flabbergasted and astonished about human anatomy, especially from the spiritual front. Every chapter/unit accompanies three interesting sections that help to revisit the learnings and this feeds an alluring trait for the upcoming chapters and the suggested practices tabloids. I like the "Ask Daaji" section at the end where Guruji answers interesting questions that commonly arise during that chapter.
#illustrations As an ardent book reader, we often relate our reading with the applicatory graphical images, the book that speaks about spiritual anatomy has ample supporting illustrations about chakras, anatomy, and key elements. This is something I call a standout point among those books I went through about chakras, and consciousness in my recent reads.
#mygrasp This book reminds me of the quote "The Human Body is the best picture of the human soul". Kamesh D Patel ji provided various conceptual examples and commendable effort penning the use-cases and real-life examples along with his personal experiences to make this book interesting and equally intriguing centric on self-consciousness and spiritual anatomy. This book iterates on the need and demands of practicing heartfulness, meditation, relaxation, and awareness to attain the ultimate consciousness.
#accolades With forty-plus years of profound experience in meditation, heartfulness, and research under his belt and representing as a spiritual guide for the global Heartfulness movement, Daaji's Spiritual Anatomy unlocks the inner consciousness and enlightens our soul to pave the way for self-transformation.
#endnotes With so much to offer in "Spiritual Anatomy", this book offers extensive knowledge that can be inculcated in our daily lifestyle and march towards spiritual literacy and find a deeper meaning in our life. Let's read & enjoy, do & feel, meditate & transcend. I pledge and promise daily meditation and help me debouch towards self-realization & self-transformation with aggrandized knowledge of chakras.
Feel so humbled to be part of the early reader group! This book on navigating our Spiritual Anatomy, sort of Atlas for Consciousness, by Kamlesh D Patel (Daaji) is indeed 'Grounding and Groundbreaking' at the same time. Like a VR headset immerses one into a virtual world, reading through the chapters of the book immerses us into an Anatomy world helping us understand where we are and where we ought be in our inner journey!
Not sure where to start but will start at the beginning where the revelations and thoughts on 'Origins' and 'Story of the Soul' in the first few chapters is truly eye-opening as we get to see our origins/roots that helps us to understand our way forward better.
As we read through, Daaji's mastery on the Self can be seen in his sharing of his Mastery on Analogies and Anecdotes as in every chapter those analogies made the reading so much more enjoyable and easier to grasp, that at one point I was cruising through the lines and pages just to get to the analogies, and then I would go back to re-read the actual content again! What fun! As Einstein says 'No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it' and these analogies serve that purpose!
Along with enjoyable reading, comes along simple one liners like 'Fear is often the result of estrangement between the heart and the mind' (from initial chapters) and 'Purity is the absence of any contradiction' 'When we have everything then we need nothing' from later chapters, makes one peel layers after layers of understanding/wisdom just by contemplating and meditating on those!
For those that look for inspiring quotes, the book is replete with splendid ones like 'Prayer is a state of being, a song that hums in the humble heart' 'The way is open, the method is available, the means are simple, and the field is prepared'
And tips like 'Postpone anger to transform it into a sweet compassion for self-improvement' and 'Practice AEIOU to remain meditative through out the day' are invaluable and make the reading practical implementation worthy!
One small thing I was hoping to read more about and wasn't covered is about the remaining 14th, 15th and 16th chakras but I am sure that would be covered somehow somewhere or may be I missed it. Another reason to re-read the book :)
Overall, I am still so soaked in the book and planning to hit on some of the underlined content for a broad and deeper swim! Thank you to the publisher and the Heartfulness team for making me part of this early readers group! Wishing everyone and especially Daaji the best with the book.
A path-breaking book for all enthusiasts of Spirituality! It depicts in simple terms how the soul practically travels back to the Source in an ‘inventure.
Since you are reading this, I’m sure, you are familiar with or knowledgeable about the 7 chakras in a human body a concept that has been existing right from the Vedic period of 1500-500 BCE. Much has been written and researched on these chakras.
What this book reveals is far beyond the traditional chakras and it identifies a total of 16 chakras in the human body. The author, Daaji, derives inspiration from his own Master’s treatises on spirituality and explains in commoner’s language how to precisely locate them in the body.
Rather than delve deep into the theoretical aspects and complex terminologies, the book keeps a single-minded focus on the journey of the soul back to its original Source. It describes how you can realize your true potential by elevating your consciousness, with a balanced appraoch to both material and spiritual life.
Daaji helps you figure out your “as-is state through a simple questionnaire which could be used at any time to measure how far you have travelled in the transformation inventure.
He divides the journey into 3 Regions: Heart, Mind and Central. It is a surprise to note that the Heart is not represented by just one chakra but the region has a constellation of 5 chakras characterized by “duality. The Mind region has 7 chakras some of which have not been traditionally reported earlier. One has to carefully note that only attributes such as Selflessness, Surrender and Humility help you navigate the Mind region.
The Central Region has just one chakra but has 7 rings of splendor and the soul is then supposed to keep on swimming towards the Infinity.
Surprisingly, the lower 3 chakras (Moolaadhaar, Swadishtana and Manipura) have not been considered as a part of the road map, since the system believes that energy from the higher chakras naturally flows down and nourishes them anyway.
Each of the other 13 chakras has been elucidated in detail with respect to its condition, what one experiences, how to work on them and how to mitigate the possible challenges that may arise, before moving on to the next chakra. Of course, there is an abundant caution that the journey is not a linear one and all the chakras are interconnected and they have mutual influence over the others.
There is a “Do and Feel section where the author describes the Heartfulness practices and how they practically help one undertake the transformational journey. It also explains how the karmic samskaras are formed and how they condition our emotions.
I smiled when I read “If you think the Center is far out of reach and wonder, if you need to know all this, you do. You belong there. It is the rightful place, and your real inheritance awaits you. Wow. Such encouragement!
What are you waiting for? A long journey starts with a single step. Ready, Set, Go!!

In 8 parts and 28 chapters Daaji, also known as Kamlesh Patel who is spiritual guide of global Heartfulnesw movement, shares his philosophy and techniques to reach the potential of human life through meditation. This journey Daaji says starts from Human - Humane - Divine - Beyond. Spiritual master calls it a story of “Inventure in which our consciousness is the main character. “Your inventure is the journey to actualize the endless potential says master. Daaji calls this entire journey an Spirutual Anatomy project. Describing human potential author writes that it means our spiritual capacity, the core that makes us human and which brings us closer to love and connection.
Soul- One of the things I love about this book is explanation of soul. Author says that our soul has its components like chakras, Koshas and subtle bodies. Chakras are key focus of this book which are explained by author really well. Koshas are sheaths around the soul (physical, energy, mental, wisdom, bliss). Subtle bodies are many life (thinking, intelligence, ego, consciousness). Author explains origin of soul and impact of its components on it. Explaining chakras Daaji says that the chakras are the spiritual energy centres of the soul, we can locate their positions on physical frame. Daaji says that their Heartfulness movement has identified 16 chakras in human body. Daaji explains their location in our body, their nature and how to work on them.
“The yatra takes us from religion to spirituality, from spirituality to reality, from reality to bliss and from bliss to nothingness.
Author also shares some techniques in this book which are called relaxation, morning meditation, evening cleaning and nighttime prayer. In chapter five these techniques are explained really well. A good spiritual book is the one that doesn’t sound much preach and also gives something meaningful to practise in order reach the place it talks about. Daaji’s book has a lot of philosophy but also tips to improve our lives on spiritual scale and beautiful explanation of chakras.
I love this book, after the autobiography of a yogi I think this is the second best spiritual book I can recommend to my friends. I always tell people that spiritual books are matter of faith, read it with belief and experience the journey it takes you on. I love the way “nothingness, Ego and chakras are explained in this book. I highly recommend reading this book if you’re into spirituality.
“When we open ourselves to love, it creates a beautiful world within our hearts, where we are filled with a sense of lightness and joy. “Know thyself becomes “Forget thyself and in that process higher self is revealed. Much love ❤️

Kamlesh D. Patel, widely known as Daaji, is a renowned spiritual guide and the fourth spiritual guide in the Sahaj Marg system of Raja Yoga meditation. His influence extends globally, reaching millions who follow his teachings on heartfulness and meditation. Daaji is celebrated for his deep insights into the human mind and spirit, which he shares through his writings, workshops, and the Heartfulness movement. His unique approach integrates ancient spiritual wisdom with contemporary practices, making him a significant figure in the world of modern spirituality.
"Spiritual Anatomy: Meditation, Chakras, and the Journey to the Center" delves into the intricate world of meditation and spiritual anatomy. The book serves as a comprehensive guide, detailing the importance and functions of the chakras, and how meditation can lead to profound personal and spiritual growth. Daaji presents a roadmap for spiritual seekers, outlining practical exercises and theoretical knowledge that aim to help individuals align their physical, mental, and emotional well-being with their spiritual path.
Central to Daaji's teaching is the concept of the 12 chakras, each representing a specific aspect of spiritual and personal development. The book meticulously explores these chakras, offering detailed descriptions and practical methods to activate and balance them. Additionally, Daaji introduces the idea of the 13th chakra, which he describes as 'nothingness'. This state signifies the ultimate spiritual goal, where one transcends the material and conscious world, achieving a profound sense of unity with the universe.
Daaji's writing style is both clear and accessible, making complex spiritual concepts understandable to readers of all levels. He combines personal anecdotes with practical advice, creating a relatable and engaging narrative. However, some readers might find the content a bit repetitive and the pacing slow, especially when the book delves into theoretical aspects. Nonetheless, the thorough explanations and holistic approach ensure that "Spiritual Anatomy" is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of meditation and spiritual practice.
I so regret giving a book a negative review, but the truth must be stated. The chakras (pronounced chuck-ras and not shaakras!) have always been taught to be centers of energy. They, the chakras, are dependent on, and governed by, the mind and emotions. The chakras DO NOT control the mind in any way. It is like saying that a car's wheels control the steering wheel. This is why acupuncture is mostly hit or miss. That being the case, the entire reasoning of this book is flawed. The traditional teaching is that there are SEVEN chakras starting with the tailbone and ending above the head, with 72,000 strands of energy radiating out of them. Anatomy and physiology teach us about nerve plexuses and networks of the autonomic nervous system, which is incredibly sensitive and active every micro-second. I do believe that this is what the ancients were talking about; they obviously sensed the activity of the autonomic nervous system. This book insists on telling us that we have SIXTEEN chakras with thirteen all over the head and chest, three in the lower body. Or something like that: I find it impossible to keep count! Each one apparently governs a state of mind or emotion. It makes no sense; I could not help but reject the entire thesis of this book. But please, do read the book by all means and come to your own conclusions. Also, most of the stories presented there come from the Indian tradition, and none of them are original. Even the story of creation presented by the author comes from one of the Upanishads; I wish the author would have quoted that source. It was just yet another creation myth. And as to the heartfulness that the author and his organization teaches, I think that compassion meditation as taught by the Tibetans has been scientifically proven to generate powerful gamma waves in the brain, and is what I believe is worth learning and practicing. Practicing the radiation of compassion makes one "all heart" anyhow!
For someone who only knows about the number of chakras inside us. I’d say this book will be my ABC to learn more about it, how to locate it, and how to mitigate it. When we talk about well-being we often get to think and act only on physical and mental well-being. But I used to wonder when people keep talking about spiritual wellness, what would that be and why is it being discussed by many? Well, this book made me understand why and why not I should give it a go. Gone are the days when we presumed spirituality talks were only for older people. This book changed my perception and if it is anything about wellness, I’m game. When I started reading this book, it raised a lot of eyebrows. Being an avid reader, it has been habitual for me to carry it along, so the book traveled with me during cab rides, and play dates, and were not. So, when I mentioned raised eyebrows, it was all the presumed notion of why is she reading about spirituality at this age. I laughed it out, because rather than wasting time on explaining why to them, I’d rather enrich myself in the words of Daaji. The book is divided into three parts Read and Enjoy, Do and Feel, Meditate and Trascend. I was impressed when I read the introduction, the idea of consciousness to be taken on a journey fascinated me. The simple and natural process as explained by the author will promise you that you can achieve it. Read and Enjoy: The chapters under this topic explore the significance of spiritual anatomy and the origin of the soul. Do and feel: This section will give you an overview of heartfulness practice, and explain the chakras- their characters and tips to overcome limitations on consciousness. Meditate and Transcend: Throughout the spiritual journey, it could be made easier with an atlas, as it gives you a picture of experiences and the conditions during the journey.
We have a lot of spiritual books that talk about energy centers or chakras which constitute the evolution of the soul. However, I make bold to say that this is the only book which has gone in such detail to talk about the chakras. Most of the spiritual systems end with the Sahasra Dal Kamal which is akin to bliss. This book has detailed descriptions of the journey through the chakras even beyond SDK which has never been discovered in the history of human evolution. There are details within details in such simple words which makes this book accessible to common man interested in divine pursuit.
I really liked the table at the beginning of each spiritual point chapter describing its unique attributes. It provides a very clear framework which reinforces easy comparison and distinction between various points. A short story or parable and a few personal experiences of the author touches the heart, elevates the story telling and keeps the book lively.
The spiritual endeavour is a realm where we start with "feeling". And we all know how difficult it is to put words to any feeling which we experience. However, this book dives four more levels deeper, which are becoming, being, non-being and finally nothingness. The clarity and simplicity of words with which all these states and conditions are described makes it a very relatable, perceptible and refreshing read for anyone reading this book.
While the book talks about the loftiest of goals and the pinnacle of the infinite spiritual pursuit, it also gives a lot of hope and motivation to the reader that all this is achievable in a human lifetime under the guidance of a capable Guru.
This book is a keeper and I am sure I will enjoy reading it over and over again.
You will need some time, peace and mindset to get the book in all its essence. And as Daaji himself says many re reads and applications in your life to gain from this book. However if you can sit down with a pen and a notebook, starting with the self evaluation section at the beginning and go on to take in step by step the interventions mentioned to understand and clear your chakras , I believe a great consciousness can be achieved leading to overall spiritual progress which ultimately is linked to wholesome happiness. . We really often ignore this third aspect of being, that is spiritual Anatomy and Daaji makes this accessible to us in a clear and concise map, making esoteric concepts remarkably understandable. By simplifying these ideas, the book becomes a practical guide for anyone seeking to deepen their meditation practice and embark on a journey of self-discovery. . Chapters start with an example story, go on to explain a concept and then is followed by how we can inculcate that into our lives and practice it. So, what truly sets this book apart is its emphasis on practical application. Rather than simply offering theoretical knowledge, the book provides readers with a plethora of techniques and exercises that can be seamlessly integrated into daily life. From self-reflection questionnaires to mindfulness exercises, each tool serves to enhance the reader's understanding of themselves and their place in the world. . I plan to re read this with time and deserved appreciation when I can actually implement at least half of it into my life meticulously. I hope I will find myself approaching challenges with newfound calmness and clarity, leading to improved decision-making and a greater sense of joy and kindness
Daaji is the current guide of Heartfulness, a Raja Yoga-based system of meditation.
Spiritual Anatomy is based on Daaji's own spiritual experiences and the writings of the preceding teachers of the Heartfulness Way.
In Spiritual Anatomy, Daaji, using simple language and with heartwarming stories and vignettes, tells us about the chakras: the energy centers in our body.
This book is a vital roadmap for spiritual seekers as they journey through the chakras through meditation. Whether someone is a curious beginner or a longtime meditator, Spiritual Anatomy offers a way for meditators to understand their spiritual progress better and find inspiration to march on more zestfully on the road to infinity.
Here are few of memorable lines from this book:
"Emotional and mental flexibility comes from the openness of the heart."
"To avoid guilt, do your best with all sincerity... Regret is a powerful tool to dissolve guilt."
"Generosity is acceptance of reality."
"While empathy acknowledges the duality between self and other, compassion dissolves this separation."
"Surrender is nothing but handing over the baggage to the guru so you can travel light on the journey."
"...Remember what you seek is within you."
As consciousness expands through meditation and we journey through our spiritual anatomy, Daaji writes, "You no longer resist life experiences; instead you imbibe the lessons from the roadblocks you face... The result of such a transformation is happiness."
I wish everyone success and happiness in their own Spiritual Anatomy projects.
This book truly has something for everyone. Spiritual Anatomy is a must-read for anyone on a spiritual or meditative journey. Daaji masterfully blends inspiring anecdotes with actionable tips, making meditation approachable for all. The Ask Daaji sections were a personal highlight of mine, offering direct, thoughtful responses to complex questions.
The Meditate and Transcend section of the book dives deep into the world of chakras, their qualities, how/where to observe them in our bodies, and what they teach us on our spiritual journey. If you're already familiar with the traditional seven chakras in yoga, you'll find this book intriguing because it expands on this existing knowledge and provides a description of 13 total chakras (and various sub-points) that we cross along our meditation journey!
Highly recommend overall. Loved the design of the hardcover version. My only wish is that they would have kept a few blank "notes" pages in the book. Spiritual Anatomy feels more like a workbook that you can go through again and again vs. a traditional novel that you read only once.
I'll leave you all with a quote from the book: "Acceptance means allowing movement, change, and evolution. Instead of imposing your will on the Universe, acceptance helps you channel the Universe's will to allow you to grow and evolve. Acceptance is a wise counselor and saves you valuable time on the journey."
