爻亘丨丕賳 丕賱賱賴 I have no words except may Allah bless Ibn Qayyim (RA)
Such a beautifully written book. It gave so much insight into each aspect of salah with beautiful parables and metaphors. It made me realize that my khush奴 is lacking. That I truly haven鈥檛 grasped the blessing that is salah. This is a read that you don鈥檛 just read once in your life. I will come back to this again and again (inshAllah) when I feel that my heart is not longing for salah the way this book made me long for it.
Finished my re-read. Love this book, one of my absolute favourites. Based on the topic of salah and music, how the immorality of the latter prevents the excellence of the former. Though, it is very beneficial to learn about each stage of salah and read how a great scholar of Islam felt about salah and the Quran.
鈥淭he secret and essence of salah lies in the inclination of the heart towards Allah alone and focusing attention on Him while praying.鈥
Inner Dimensions of the Prayer is an essential read for any Muslim. It delves into every aspect of the ritual prayer, explaining why we pray in the first instance, the significance behind the specific words/duas we recite, the wisdom and implications of the bodily motions (qiyam, ruku, sujood), it delves into the beauty of Surah Fatiha and explains the rationale behind the staggered nature of the five daily prayers.
This work reminded me both in title and content of Imam Ghazali鈥檚 鈥淚nner Dimensions of Islamic Worship鈥, however Ghazali鈥檚 work was a tad longer as it covered all five pillars not just the ritual prayer.
I read the ebook version of this and it was a bit poorly formatted but easy to read. I would recommend to anyone wanting to enhance their salah especially if you struggle with concentration and want a deeper understanding of why we pray the way we do.
鈥
鈥淭he wisdom behind prescribing the actions and the statements of salah to be performed several times in succession during salah is because they are the sustenance of the heart and the soul without which they cannot survive.鈥
鈥
May Allah protect us from ghaflah and make us of those who have khushu鈥.
鈥極 worshipper, be in the salah like a man who agreed to guarantee the debt of a person who turned out to be deceitful and kept delaying the payment of his debt. And because you are the guarantor of this man you will be called to pay the debt in place of him, so you call for every form of available help to force this man to pay his debt in order to release yourself from this commitment鈥
(the debt here i believe is our sins and nafs/desires)
- such a beautifully written book. credits both to ibn qayyyim may Allah have mercy on him and the translator. a lot of times translated Islamic books lack the heart in which the scholars wrote in. books which were originally *one* letter to an afflicted person becomes books which read like commandments and I feel that they only translate the rules etc and not translate well the eloquence. arabic is an easy language to an extent but translating it is quite a feat.
definitely need the physical copy of this <3
{ note: finding a quote one of my friends here hasn鈥檛 used in their reviews wasnt as hard as I thought ahah)
I love how this book delves into every aspect of prayer, what it does to you physically and spiritually, the beauty of surah Al-Fatiha, the beauty of prayer, how music effects us in prayer, such a beautiful book that I would recommend to every Muslim. I鈥檓 definitely rereading this every once in a while Here鈥檚 a free pdf of the book 馃馃徎
鈥樷€o that we can pray and relieve ourselves from the hardships of this life, just as how a tired person finds repose as soon as he arrives at his house and settles down in it, breaking away from the hardships and fatigue he endured outside.鈥
May Allah allow salat to always be a source of peace and comfort to us, in our best and most difficult days.
鈥淥 son of Adam, I created you to worship Me, so do not play (i.e.do not be involved in idle pleasures); I guaranteed your provision in this life so do not tire yourself (i.e. seek your provision but do not make it a concern because provisions are already decreed). O son of Adam, whenever you seek Me, you shall find Me. And, whenever you find Me, you shall find everything. But, if you were to lose Me, you would lose everything. Verily, I ought to be the most beloved One to your heart.
This is why Allah, Most High, made the sal膩h the means through which people can be near Him, invoke Him, earn His love and enjoy His Company.鈥
may Allah swt make us among those who fulfil the purpose for which they have been created, ameen <3
i really wanted this to be my first 2025 book! naturally it took a little while to read because it鈥檚 context heavy and i haven鈥檛 had much time, but i鈥檓 so happy to have found this. lemme see if i can find a physical copy somewhere, and i really do recommend this for anyone looking to connect more with their prayers or just islam in general. 馃拰馃馃徏
