[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, werewolves]

Ten years ago, Darren Hart was rescued from a fall by a gorgeous man that tells him an outlandish tale. Once he returns to civilization, his memories blur and he begins to believe the voice in his head is a figment of his imagination.

Now, Darren is a successful veterinarian who believes he is just a bit crazy. After years of therapy and medications, he has learned to live with the sexy voice in his head. He even carries on conversations and occasionally fantasizes about the voice. When he's attacked, Darren doesn't know what to think, but when the voice comes to rescue him in the form of the most gorgeous man he's ever met, Darren is positive he's lost his mind.

On the run from a killer, Darren has to come to terms with the fact that the voice is real and has a name. Asher Stone is the alpha of a werewolf clan and claims that Darren is his alpha mate. Can Darren believe in Asher's promise that they were meant to be together or will an unknown assailant kill him before he realizes that being the alpha mate is what he desires most in the world?

I really liked this book. It was a nice variation on the 'finding your mate' idea, with a long separation and several obstacles before the main characters finally manage to get together. Or are forced together, rather, because the danger to Darren, a vet, becomes too great for Asher, a werewolf alpha, to leave him unprotected any longer.

I loved Darren. He was incredibly strong to have survived for 10 years, thinking the voice in his head was a left-over effect from the fall he took. Being told he was crazy, even going on medication, and still being able to function made him an alpha in his own right. It also meant that he took no shit from Asher, stood up for himself and gained his respect much more easily than had he just been the 'weak human' who was introduced to the pack.

Asher was also a wonderful character. His suffering, though he knew all along that he wasn't crazy, wasn't any less than Darren's. He knew his mate was out there, even stayed in touch with him, but could never be close. He then had to go through his mate adapting to the idea that he was real. I loved that this wasn't easy on him, that it took him a while to understand how Darren had suffered.

If you like reading about two strong men learning to live together, facing external enemies as well as uncertainties in their relationship, and learning how to love together, you will probably like this story as much as I did.

Stormy Glenn is a bit of a conundrum to me. She's not a very good writer, but her stories are interesting. Maybe she's one of those people who would be great at telling a story around a campfire, but she runs into trouble when she has to put the words on paper. I'm constantly finding mistakes in her books, not just typos, but the wrong words being used. For example, she once used "perspective" when the correct word would have been "respective", then used "prospective" when it should have been "perspective". I've also spotted several incomplete sentences. It's frustrating and happens frequently in her books. On top of that, her characters tend to be rather stereotypical and sometimes insulting. I love her ideas, but her writing is so mediocre that I can't in good conscience rate her books any higher than two stars. Are they worth paying money for? Definitely not. But if you can borrow them from a library source or friend and are into m/m (and sometimes m/m/m) shifter/vampire romance, you might enjoy them.

Slightly cheesy Siren book but I gobbled it up. Why is that? There's something about this book no matter how ridiculous that made me happy. No crying or heartbreak....I think that must be it. I can fly through these books and just have a grand 'ole time. This was is the first in the series and we have Darren, a vet who's pretty sure he's crazy and Asher, the Alpha who saved and mated him (and can talk through the link which is why Darren thinks he's cray cray). Darren had slipped and fallen 10 years ago and doesn't remember even meeting Asher but Asher knew Darren was his mate so he saved him. Anyways, Darren is under attack so Asher has to finally go get him and tell him what's going on. That's basically what the rest of the book is about. Can't say that I won't read the next one, I probably will. :)

You can’t expect much from Stormy Glenn. She has some very good ideas at times but the execution of them feels often very unsatisfactory .

Heart Song was very similar in this sense. The book had its interesting moments but in the end still felt just too MEH for me.

The fact I’ve started reading this book on December 10th and managed to read the first 55% the same day only to then completely abandon the book for almost 2 months... speaks for itself I think.

The book was readable. It was manageable. Stormy Glenn’s book usually are easy and not too complicated read.

If you’re looking for that, you’ll like her books fine.

But! If you’re tired of the depressing amount of shifter books that are still the saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame ...

...and have nothing new in them at all, and want something different and refreshing... look for a different author .

One thing was especially annoying in this book:

My god, the cover is just awful .

Why do authors even pick these covers? Or the publishers?!

Ugh.

Why do I read these things again?!

At least it’s not a headless cover.

IMHO, Heart Song DOES NOT deserve four or five star ratings I’ve been seeing from the other reviewers. It really doesn’t. Not even if it IS a shifter story which I usually go easier on from the rating point of view.

2.5 Stars!

The guy success in being the Alpha and bringing the peace between the different packs and cry all along the story. Not really coherent with what you expected of a Alpha, but it's go with the genre of the book.

Don't like the used of 'Bitch'.

Is Asher gay or it's a gay-for-you story?

Asher Grayson looked over at the man casually leaning against the desk in his study and scowled.
page.19

And now sudenly his name is:
“Ash! Asher Stone, don’t you dare walk away from me.
page.72

“What’s he doing? Darren whispered back.
They talk in their mind....how can he whispered?

One of the good point of this writer, even if she write cliche personage it's that she try to make them switch or at least, they try to be. Not that it's an obligation but the percentage of switch in real life and in LGBT book's not equaly represented.

A lot of small plot ideas, sentences, etc are used and reused in his book. It's redundant.

I love the 'torture' scene. Laugh a lot.

After a re-read done 5/16/2016, I revised and updated my review:

What a great beginning to a new series. I felt for Darren, because I certainly would have thought I was crazy, too, if I'd been hearing a voice in my head for the past ten years. I really enjoyed the intrigue and machinations going on, and Darren was a great help in this area. I adored his snarky sense of humor, but his compassion and loyalty, as well. Plus, he saved puppies!! His reaction to finding out he was now the alpha bitch was priceless, but he got his brother-in-law back:

"Ash, I don’t understand what just happened, Darren whispered as he leaned closer to Ash. “Is Dean staying here or going home with us? “No, baby, this is Dean’s home now. He’s Silvanus’s mate, and because Silvanus is the alpha, Dean will live here with him. Darren was silent for a moment then he started laughing. He reached over and smacked Dean on the arm. “Who’s the bitch now?

Terrific start to another shifter series. I really liked Asher and loved that Darren was not the "little woman", although the "Alpha Bitch" and "Clan Queen" stuff seriously had me laughing. Looking forward to more in this series.

I found Darren to be a trip.. totally lovable MC, compassionate, animal lover, healthy amount of fear when needed, and knows when to dish to his alpha mate.. what else do you need?

Ash on the other hand.. all in all good MC but i found myself frustrated with him. To met his mate think he was crazy.. not try to explain things to him.. to wait 10 years to make a safe place... if you use this excuse you could use it indefinitely.. When would it ever be 'safe' to bring his mate home?

As far as who's behind the plot? I didn't find it terribly mysterious.

Seeing as I'm way behind on starting this series, I already know we aren't getting a 'behind the scenes' look into Dean and Garrett settling in. Bummer! Would have been awesome to jump right into that, but either way I really think I'm going enjoy this series.

I read this book 2 years ago and am adding a review to it now as I just read the 5th book in the series.

This was the first m/m romance story I ever read and it instantly got me hooked on the genre. Darren is such a lovable and exiting MC that when I compared him to see of the heroines of other books I read he came out on top. After reading his and Asher's story I then immediately went on to read the rest of the series then the rest of stormy Glenn's work and then moved on to other m/m authors and have been hooked ever since.
Even after 2 years i can still say Darren is my favorite character and that I will never forget his and Asher's story (they do say you never forget your first lol). On occasion when I am bored and what to revisit some old stories just to cheer myself up this is one of the first ones I'll go to as it always makes me smile when I think of how I first reacted to finding out it was a story between two men (I though that there was just a lot of editing errors, I didn't realize until the first sex scene that it was an m/m book lol)
I will always be glad that ideas this book and will always be a huge fan of this author.

Sorry that this isn't really a true review of the book I just thought I would write down how this book affected me :)

I like the storyline and the slightly originality of the storyline, as well as the very creative ideas about planets and such. I find it a problem at Hassen seems like a desert tribe/middle Eastern culture based character (him and his people) and yet most of the things I imagine of him is very English. The character description was vague and it wasn't up into more than half way through the book that I actually got the more accurate visualization that Rayne had long hair. The sex smut was lacking, but the romance sure was not. In some ways I think this combo works pretty well (personally). The writing could be polished a little more so it doesn't feel like I'm reading high school Creative Writing work, but that's just me and I hope no one considers that too harsh a review on my end.
I think my greatest problem was that the character personality and traits was very bland. Rayne could easily be switched from a "he" to a "she" and no one would know the difference. The mentioning that he might just be a little less manly or more female like would have helped. In the end I had to read through this wondering when I see the slightly more male (or testosterone-induced) acts from Rayne.

Huh. This was actually one of the best books I've read by this author. Well color me surprised. I was instantly drawn to it soon as I read the blurb but, hey, not the first book I've been excited about and been disappointed afterwards so I wasn't all that hopeful. Glad to be wrong this time around. I actually liked the characters. The world-building wasn't very complete but it was interesting and captivating and the mystery regarding the assassination attempts gripped me 'till the very end. I gotta say Aunt Sarah wasn't that much of a surprise but still good to read about. Overall, I liked it. The writing was better and I can tell the story was worked on and improved. Some effort was definitely made.

Heart Song, the first book in True Blood Mate series has a very unique, and very much appreciated, approach to werewolf mating. It is, in fact, the perfect antidote to instantaneous love and instantaneous mating.

I love how defiant and independent Darren is and how he refuses to be put into a traditional Alpha-Bitch role. He's his own human. I had hoped that the story would continue and explore more of Darren's experiences in the pack, but it didn't. Maybe the second book in the series will continue with that thread.

I give Heart Song three stars.

I'd rate it 3.5

I liked both characters equally. This was a nice change since I usually find myself liking one better than the other. Plus the other characters in the book were pretty solid and even likable. I liked that Asher wasn't one of those domineering alphas. And I absolutely loved the rare element added to the mating concept.

I found that Darren's willingness to forgive and fall in the role of 'alpha bitch' was too soon. But this didn't really make me like him less since Asher suffered too! I suppose I was expecting a big confrontation scene. Other than that, I really enjoyed this read.

I really felt this was a good start to the series. The dynamics among the clan and the alpha are good to watch play out. Poor Darren goes from thinking he is crazy(hearing a voice in his head) to being bombarded with information about the supernatural so quickly that it is a wonder he really does fall off the funny farm wagon. Ash did go about the whole mate thing wrong, but then again I could understand his concerns. All in all going through everything they go through is worth it in the end.

Like all of Stormy Glenn's books this was a fun read. I like that the two men were a little more equal than some of the men in Stormy's books. Darren was a strong man to survive and become something even with the "voice" in his head and doctors telling him he was crazy. I felt so for Ash waiting to bring his mate home safely for 10 years and then still having it so unsafe for Darren. The men make the most of it and struggle to figure out who is betraying them.

I am going with 3 stars, but I could see rating this book a 2 or a 4 doormen on what you focus on or are looking for in this story. It is so full of purple prose especially during sex that it actually threw me out of the story more than once. Nothing about the alpha seemed alpha like except his shift into his 3rd form until possibly the end. At times the two m/c's were worse than chick's with dicks they were actual teenage girls. That being said, there was a lot I liked too. The actual story had a ton of potential from the 10yr voice in the head, to the attack at the clinic, to the returning of the pups to another clan etc... The reason Ash covered up why he'd challenged for alpha was sweet and honorable.

It was a great plot idea that could have been fleshed out better. The story felt rushed and not well developed when it could have been so much more. I'm not sure I will continue with this series. I like the authors books more often than not, but...

I dont know how a person who sees a stranger leaning over them the moment they wake up does not get up screaming while swinging their fists. Who would just look at the stranger and be so nonchalant? The beginning was quite interesting and the book was slowly building up but when it hit this scene it completely took a nose dive for me. Such a weird reaction to a situation and the immediate jumping into the sack diluted the relationship dynamics that could have been.

A fairly original take on a typical mating claim type story. I found it quite refreshing and enjoyed it, though it isn't the type that you should analyse too thoroughly.

You can’t expect much from the author. Good ideas but poor execution.
Said that i think this is one of the best of her series. Read the sentence above again. Understand? Ok, we can go ahead. I like maybe the first half of this book. It's cool Asher for a decade being basically ended a war and change rules just to be with his mate. Great idea. Bad execution. I understand Asher's reasons but Darren forgive him way to quick for someone who was thinking for the last ten years that is crazy.

Just reread this and loved it as much now as I did then. For some who read shifter stories the love at first sight thing is hard for them to swallow, but I'm a soulmate, instant love kinda of gal. Not that I don't enjoy other kinds love stories from slow and steady, to I hate your guts before they succumb, but the you were born for me love gets me every time and not many do that better than Ms. Glenn.

Asher and Darren are a little of both I think. Ten years pass between them from the time they meet, and Asher gives the mating bite to initiate a mental link, to the time when Asher actually claims Darren. During that time, because they can speak to one another in their minds, Darren believes he is going crazy. He traces it to a head injury he suffered the actual night Asher and Darren first meet. So for Asher it's the mating love at first sight, but for Darren he's spent ten years getting to know Asher though he doesn't know it at the time. Still it takes a while for Darren figure what's real and what isn't before he falls in love with Asher.

All in all the story runs so smoothly, starting off quickly and keeping a steady exciting pace, as one scene flows into the next. There is no extraneous material to get in the way of the main characters interactions. You know where the story is going from the moment you read the first page and the formula used to get there but that's okay because I just like seeing how they get there and Asher and Darren make it a easy trip. Asher is determined but gently coaxing and Darren is willing to follow but won't go blindly, because when you're mated to an alpha, you have to hold your own.
