This series continues to be engaging and fun.
Excuse me, I have to go and get some kamra, and feed pastries to the buriwok.
The book does expect you to have read #1 and #2, and lays more groundwork for future books, but there's nothing that leaves you hanging and frustrated.
I'll continue this review in a minute, but here is the courier from the Glutton Bunba with Third Dinner.
We have some further developments in Max's magic. You have to wonder if Frei plotted out all the books ahead of time so the overall story doesn't overbalance itself.
Whew, this review is hard work. I think I'll have some Elixir of Kaxar.
You know, as long as we're stopped, let's have some kamra.
OK. Let's drive across town so I can brag about how fast I drive.
We're there! Time for some more Elixir!
I think one of the things - pass the pastries, please - I like about this book is the slack-jawed gullibility of all the non-magicians in Max's world. It goes nicely with the many character names and other things that make you read the whole book with a small smile.
Well, that's the end of my review. Shall we go to the Skeleton for Fourth dinner?

You may have deduced that I am commenting on the heavily padded nature of these books. This 319-page story could have been told in 200 without the kamra, elixir and pastries. But somehow these parts remind me of Steven Brust's Phoenix Guards:
- Would you like to hear a story?
- Yes, please.
- Good, then I will tell you a story.
(pause)
- I look forward to hearing your story.
- That's good, because I am about to tell it to you.
- I am listening carefully.
- And I am about to start my story. Are you glad?
- I am very glad.
- I'm glad you're glad. I will tell you my story.

После первой книги немного боялся того, что герой сильно простой и черезчур ребяческий, однако после прочтения этой книги приятно осознавать свою ошибку. Герой взрослеет как и его отношение к жизни, меняется мировозрение и его жизнь в общем, очень приятно за этим наблюдать и быть частичкой этого.

I've heard a lot of great things about this author and this series so I was very excited to check it out. I was quite disappointed by the repetitive writing and how the author tried to make every single sentence sound quirky and original. I got tired of it quickly and even though I liked some parts of the two stories in this book, I don't see myself reading more of this series.

Это крайне интересная и необычная серия. Вот так, чтобы кинуться и кричать "это мои самые любимые книги" - так не будет. Сказать, что это проходные вещицы, где все постоянно едят и юморят - тоже язык не поворачивается, хотя чисто теоретически я понимаю, откуда растут ноги у таких высказываний. Одним словом, цикл о сэре Максе ставит меня в тупик - почему же я с превеликим удовольствие читаю эти книги и покупаю их для своей домашней библиотеки? Наверное, лучше всего причину опишет название этого тома, "Простые волшебные вещи". Автор так светло и мудро пишет о простых, но важных вещах, что и книгу, и персонажей хочется с блаженной улыбкой затискать, как умильного котенка. В моей случае "химия" этой книги сработала и я попала под влияние волшебного очарования этого мира. И я от всей души благодарна автору за то, что она напоминает мне о том, что так часто теряется в потоке забот. Вот, например, об этом: "Счастливая возможность удивляться по пустякам так переполняет жизнь, что можно позволить себе не желать ничего иного".

Это уже начинает надоедать.
К третьему тому протагонист наделен возможностями к совершенно необыкновенной разновидности магии, которой не владеют даже самые ловкие пользователи магии обычной, он смертоносен словно скорпион, обаятелен, окружен друзьями, его любят пожилые леди и всемогущие мудрецы из других миров, он очень вкусно и обильно ест очень вкусную магическую еду, получает очень много денег, непрерывно занимается сексом с верной прекрасной подругой, очень быстро ездит на самобеглой повозке и путешествует между мирами.
Как всегда, интереснее всего исследовать травмы автора, которые этот терапевтический текст должен излечить - и тут к уже знакомым нам (голод, неустроенность, одиночество) внезапно добавляется ксенофобия, которая обогатила текст книжки натуралистической сценой магического избиения целой армии "цыганок".

Продолжаем путешествия по Ехо, волшебному и чарующему миру. Мы узнаем, что вещи, так же как и люди, которые попадают в подходящие условия могут измениться и стать во истину уникальными и великими. Даже что-то простое, вроде отвлекающей накидки, может стать плащом-невидимкой, особенно если попало в Сердце Мира.

This series feels like a sitcom, the main cast is the main attraction, team dynamics is what this series is loved for. The characters change over time, which makes it all the better.

3-я книга подряд - это, пожалуй, немного перебор.
Всё также хорошо, но без восторгов второй книги.
Выделить какую-то повесть нельзя, они одинаково равнозначно вызывают интерес.
Некоторые моменты бывают затянуты, но следить за взаимоотношениями основных персонажей становится всё интереснее. Сделаю перерыв и возьмусь за Вершителя.
Всё также хорошо, но без восторгов второй книги.

The more I read the more I get confident all the characters are quite the same. And the dialogues are all the same. But I still like the stories they tell.

Продолжаем читать про приключения Макса.
В этой книге всего два рассказа, зато каких! После небольшого разочарования во втором сборнике я боялась приступать к этому. Но, к моему счастью, оба рассказа о??азались одинаково интересными и захватывающими. К концу первого я была так рада снова оказаться в Ехо и переживать приключения Сэра Макса и всей их честной компании.
В общем, много вопросов и нетерпение поскорее выяснить - что же будет дальше?
За вновь разожженный интерес - 4/5☆

Was similar to book two in the fact that I learned more and more about the characters and Echo. But in this book I started to not just learn the characters but had a true sense of who they were. Like, “oh that’s just Max being Max, or Lonli-Lokli being Lonli-Lokli.” The only complaint is the constant and repetitive food breaks, I kept wanting the book to get back to the good stuff. And a felt like when excitement finally took place it was over so quick. Like a case would take dozens and dozens of pages to build up, only for it to be resolved in just a few paragraphs. Overall, I enjoyed.

This book is mind blowing. It is a novel that took some effort for me to read because of the detail that Frei gave to his work. Max Frei’s world is thoroughly described. A maximum amount of detail is given to everything: characters, descriptions, language, and settings.
All this detail means that many readers will have an easier, more enjoyable experience if they start with the first book in the series. There is a lot of background that needs to be explained and because of the language barrier, it takes a minute to figure out. After the reader is caught up with the new vocabulary though, the action, humor, and excitement will have them loving this series.
Personally, I wish I had read the first few books, but I was definitely able to love The Stranger’s Magic as a standalone. In this novel, Max must save the world. He and his comrades face-off against the bad guys who are threatening their world. Anyone could love these books.
All this detail means that many readers will have an easier, more enjoyable experience if they start with the first book in the series. There is a lot of background that needs to be explained and because of the language barrier, it takes a minute to figure out. Another story in the world of Echo. It picked up right where the previous left off. Max's powers continue to expand. The format of this book was slightly different than the previous, focusing on mainly 3-4 characters instead of a large scene with all the members of the Secret Investigative Force. Melimori was barely mentioned. My favorite three were though. The only real problem I have with the stories: Ella and Armstrong were supposed to have kittens in the first book, or the second book at the latest. The king was interested in owning one. When Max was pulled 'home' for a year and returned, the kitten storyline was never updated. Did they have kittens? What happened to them? Still loving these books. Looking forward to reading book 4, and however many more were translated from Russian. ^^

I've said it before and I'll say it again; I really wish those interpreters could work faster!! (Three down, and six to go!)
Max is back in two humorous, engaging, and insightful tales, along with his beloved crew, to save The World once again from a nefarious ex- Grand Magician and Ordinary Magical Things :) Fans of Frei may agree that it was not as in depth as The Stranger, or even The Stranger's Woes, but it's a great addition to the series nonetheless.
No spoilers! But I will say this; I felt as if this was an installment meant to build up backround/context for the next book. Some authors can pull that off in an extremely entertaining way and Max Frei is most definitely one of them. Can't wait for book four!! Love you Max!

Having read the previous two books, The Stranger and The Stranger's Woes, it was impossible not to read this third one. It's funny, it's entertaining, it's thought-provoking. And when it ended I was disappointed there wasn't a fourth book available to read yet. Echo is a milieu that's richly imagined, where people live such long lives and where magic is in evidence in daily life. Sir Max's adventures can't end here! (I check Svetlana Martynchik's wiki and it shows there are other books in the Labyrinths of Echo series, so I just have to be patient.)

Silly, but quite entertaining
Silly, entertaining, at times inane, Max has a startling ability to sweep you up in a bubbling, joyful laugh at the absurdity and wonder of life even though her stories are set somewhere altogether apart from the modern world.
I waited years to read this third book in the series, and now all I want to do is read the next. Beware, fellow reader, lest you get sucked into the same whirlpool of fond enjoyment.

Although I'm always thrown by the somewhat idiosyncratically flat feel of the translation, every Frei book captures me within a very few pages; this is no exception. Max's world and story is growing steadily more layered and complex, and his relationships with every aspect of his context (animate or otherwise) are fun and organic - genuinely evolutionary storytelling. More please.
