Meh. This started out interestingly enough, but then it just draaaaggged so it took me a while to finish this. I also feel like it introduced magical elements, rules, objects, people etc. and then didn't define what they do or mean. I ended up bored because I was ignoring that the "rules" of the world didn't make any sense because the rules or world building were never established. Why devote entire chapters to another country where this hotel isn't allowed to go to negotiate a visit and then never return to that place or any of the info brought up? What even were Jani's powers? WTH is a Fabricant? It's never explained. Cool idea. Bad execution. ]]>

The book I've been calling the, "My friend is dead, book." I loved it with sad, knowing breaths. There are passages in this book that I wanted to stop, write on a post it, and plaster all over my house as a way of helping me through this grief. But I didn't stop, I kept reading, vowing to return to that page the next day with a highlighter or a pen. That didn't happen either. Maybe I'll read it again one day and do that. In the end, I'm not sure what I got out of it, nor do I think Crosley knows what she got out of writing it, except just another way of talking about, thinking about, and loving our gone friends. ]]>
