I've read this one several times, and it ought to be a much better book than it is -- mysterious identities, Balkan politics, and the appearance of Wolfe' (adopted) daughter. But it's something of a mess that doesn't satisfy either in the telling, in the characters, or in the conclusion.

4/2017 Update: Still agree with the above (though I've bumped it from 2 to 3 stars). There are some good character bits, and extending the action to take in (quaintly pre-US-in-WW2) European intrigue has its moments. But false trails are all resolved too abruptly, and the final conclusion feels like more of a reach to find a way to conclude the tale than anything else. Still worth a read.

Hmmm. Maybe I will leave it at 2 stars.
