I'm surprised I have an overall positive impression. A lot of the storyline felt too young to me. I was also pretty triggered by the emotional and verbal abuse. I know people found the fmc thoughts and actions annoying, but abusers work super hard to get you to make you believe you aren't worth squat. And the abusers believe it. And hoo boy does it piss them off when you come out on the other side and you walk away with love they tried to make sure you don't have.

I haven't seen too many authors realistically showing how people recreate the abuse from family of origin. ]]>

As an almost retired person, please put me in a care facility if I'm like this. Yes, the mother is a person deserving of love and care, but this just feels like unnecessary martyrdom. They can't properly care for her, and tbh, she won't know.

No one should have to live like this family. When are we going to rebel against the oligarchs? We pay so much for health care so the owners and CEOs of healthcare providers and insurers can get richer and richer. We get almost nothing but bankruptcy back. It doesn't have to be this way.

The angst of being apart got tedious in this book. It was too repetitive and nothing happens for about a third of this book. ]]>

Interesting that we can take different things from a book. Yes, he blames big pharma AND poverty, AND the inequity in our health care as well as crowding, availability and ability to get to treatment. Also, so much more including how the rich treat poor people. This isn't just a big pharma rant. ]]>

My reaction is to some of the reviews - she shows ruby abusing her on almost every page. Hitting, pinching, smacking, temper tantrums. Getting punished for showing emotions. Being told over and over she isn't worth being nice to. And that's just the start

I'm honestly scared for some of y'all's kids. ]]>

Loved the author. The book, though, was more like a series of essays with bits and pieces of time missing. The framing around books that she had read was much stronger and some chapters than in others. ]]>

Liked the characters, the magic, the story was decent. Really disliked that it didn't finish the story. I super dislike the trend of publishing a part of a book. You can make a series with each book being complete, even if there's an overarching story arc. ]]>

It lagged a little in a few parts, but gets an added star for having the balls to do this! And I admire Flatiron books too.

It was interesting, I learned a lot - I've never been a Facebook user, so I didn't follow their evilness. It was entertaining in a jaw dropping way.

I'm always amused by people slamming memoirs because the author didn't do what they wanted. Keyboard warriors who would be so morally strong, 🥱 I can enjoy the memoir without the author having a full moral reckoning.

I saw one Facebook ex employee trying to defend Facebook and especially Joel (who the defender shared political and moral leanings.) She starts by saying she never saw him sexually harass anyone - well ok then, I'm sure it never happened 🙄 thanks for torching your credibility up front. And she didn't refute anything of substance. ]]>
