Thanks Renato. Yes, I'm thinking of joining the Brain Drain read as one of my reading goals this year was to read more Pynchon; I've only read Vineland. It looks like M&D can be read on its own though.

Don't know if you still want to discuss this book. Am reading it and looks like I will finish it. I'm not too concerned with understanding, but just going with the flow of the words. At first I didn't even realize that they were in South Africa and then an island off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic. I thought they were in the West Indies. Now I'm at the part where they are back in England and getting set to go to America. I mean, I have a general idea of what's going on and I read the book as dialogue and the plot is secondary. I don't understand everything everyone is saying or its implications, yet I still get something that keeps me reading. If it wasn't humorous I think it would be more of a chore to read.
