J. Kyle McNeal Your publisher signs the second book of your epic fantasy series. Two weeks later, they fire all their employees and quit responding to emails on the way to bankruptcy.
J. Kyle McNeal Yes, Birthrights is Book 1 of the 4-book Revisions to the Truth series. Book 2, Broken Oaths, is scheduled for release in early 2018 (exact date TBD). I've promised to finish one book per year until the series is complete.
J. Kyle McNeal I draw inspiration from many sources -- books I've read, movies I've seen, places I've traveled, people I've encountered, and many more. The world is a wonder-filled, magical place that brims with sources of inspiration.
J. Kyle McNeal Hunger for criticism -- the blunter the better. Cheerleaders are wonderful for maintaining motivation, but sharp-tongued critics are who will push you to be better.
J. Kyle McNeal Creating -- spending my days (and often nights) developing something that will endure. I enjoyed (most of) the years I spent in the business world and believe I had a real impact on the companies I touched. But the permanence of the written word carries an allure that I found irresistible.

A very close second, is being able to work from home during my daughter's first months and years.
J. Kyle McNeal The concept for the series (Revisions to the Truth) has been rattling around in my head for 20+ years. I even wrote some of it (all later completely rewritten) during my university days. As I've experienced more of the world, the story has taken new turns and the details have filled in.
J. Kyle McNeal I'm currently writing Broken Oaths, Book 2 of the Revisions to the Truth series. It is slated to be published in 2018.
J. Kyle McNeal On those days when I just can't seem to create something new, I go back and edit previous chapters. I find that fine-tuning written chapters (or even red-inking the heck out of them) works to get my creative juices flowing. Oh ... and 5-Hour Energy ... that helps, too.
