Sue Smethurst It always tends to start with a 'wow, how did you overcome that?' moment. Each book I've written including Behind Closed Doors, Blood on the Rosary, A Diamond in the Dust and my latest book The Freedom Circus, tells the story of an inspiring woman, someone who has overcome incredible odds to achieve what others couldn't contemplate. With each of the books I've enjoyed conveying how these women triumph over tragedy and the worst of circumstances that life deals them, and the lessons we learn from them along the way. Each of these stories inspires us, teaches us about human fragility and just how strong and courageous we can be in the face of adversity.
Sue Smethurst I still have 50,000 words to write. I am a month passed my deadline!
Sue Smethurst Just do it! You can't be a writer if you don't write anything! Writing is hard, there's no two ways about it, but there is no greater buzz than finishing a manuscript, it is an extraordinary sense of achievement. Make time for yourself to write each day, allocate the time in your diary if you need to, and let yourself go. But a word of advice, the first draft is never the best! Re-write, be critical, and go with your heart. When I wrote The Freedom Circus, I was 30,000 words into the manuscript but felt like the story wasn't singing in the way I wanted it to, So I ditched what I'd already written and started all over again. Immediately I knew I'd made the right decision - even if it meant I was way behind my publishers deadline. I submitted a book that I felt was the best I could do. Give it your all, and never leave anything on the table!
Sue Smethurst Oh gosh everything! I feel so privileged to be able to bring incredible, inspiring stories to life, stories that touch our hearts, inspire us or make us think about the world we live in. Everyone has a story to tell.
