Sometimes, I get my inspiration for the crimes in my books from documentaries. For instance, when I saw a documentary years ago on sex trafficking, I used that as the crime in "Inn Keeping with Murder," the first Old Maids book.

I've been reading a lot of biographical true crime. Right now I'm reading Marcia Clark's book "Without a Doubt" which gives you a behind the scenes look at the O.J. Simpson trial. I'll be interviewing her for my December issue of "Let's Talk About Murder" so they sent me a copy of her newest book "Trial by Ambush" to also read.

I have a new series coming out based on the Old Maids of Mercer Island series. I've taken Julia Applegate, the protagonist, and her brother Ben (who shows up in the 5th and 6th novel in the series) and created a mystery for them to solve when they were kids. It will come out probably November 2024. It's great fun.

Fortunately, I don't get writer's block. Since I'm also a freelance writer, I write constantly, which making working on my books feel like therapy.

A friend of my oldest brother killed his wife in his kitchen when she was staying with him. She and the friend were separated, and she was seeing another man. Her husband waited for her outside my brother's house until she came home from a date, followed her inside, and killed her.
