The dog was only the beginning. Within days the town was like a writhing carnage house, and as I sat at the wheel of my truck I came to understand there was only one way to fix things.

Sorry I missed this one for so long! I had A Court of Silver Flames on my reading list (It didn't disappoint! ;) I also had Julie Cross' Chasing Truth (amazing - excellent for fans of Veronica Mars!) and Ben Aaronovitch's False Values (book 8 in the Rivers of London series). But there were so many more amazing books!

"It bit." How's that?

I'd love to visit the version of the U.S. in Ilona Andrews' Hidden Legacy series. Or any of the worlds that writing team comes up with. Truly spectacular, weird, terrifying and yet oddly wonderful!

What a great question! I like to think I've plotted it already -- within the True Born Trilogy. My great grandmother was an identical twin, separated from her sister at a young age. She actually took on her twin's identity and didn't realize it until she was an old woman!

If I can't pick Lucy and Jared from the True Born Trilogy?.... For the past few years I have had a 3-way tie. There is the classic fictional couple that I keep turning back to: Lizzie Bennet and Mister Darcy (Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen). There is something so remarkable about these two. Lizzie is just so darned smart and strong, and though Darcy is an ass, he's also kind of remarkable. Then there is Sookie Stackhouse and Erik Northman (Sookie Stackhouse novels, Charlaine Harris). Like Elizabeth Bennet, Sookie has this really clear, independent spirit that I love so much. Her counterpart Erik is bizarre, hilarious, so wrong and yet so right, and therefore, so hot! And finally, I absolutely love Kate Daniels and Curran "Beast Lord" from the Kate Daniels novels (Ilona Andrews). Kate is a thrilling character -- incredibly strong and smart, yet so vulnerable. I love how Curran is outrageous with her during their "mating rituals," how he is driven by his instincts, in the same way that Erik is driven by his. This makes them imperfect characters--they show their flaws, and I love that about them. I suppose what all of the women characters have in common is their rich intelligence and independence (and in Kate's case, her bloodthirsty way with a sword).

True Born was a whole hodge podge of things I have been mulling over for a long time now. The state of our environment, all the cool stuff I've learned from some of the world's top scientists. I was even inspired by some of the research I completed for my PhD. But I was also inspired by a family story - my great grandmother, who was a twin and who 'forgot' her own identity and took on her twin's when she was separated from her family as a very small child. She lived her whole life with her twin's identity - and I wanted to know what it was like to be that close to someone... so Lucy and Margot Fox were born!

What a great question - and I'm not sure how to answer it. I think I'm very lucky in that I am an extremely imaginative person. So much so that it's a little distracting at times, to be honest. I find writing stories helps me curb some of my more imaginative tendencies. The real question is: how do I get inspired enough to do anything else?!?

I'm working on Books 2 and 3 of the True Born Trilogy. Book 2 already has a title - True North. Yay!

I'm not sure this is a popular answer, but I'd have to say: treat writing like a profession, like a business. Writing is a craft and vocation you need to work at it constantly and you can be the greatest writer in the world, but unless you have a plan to get from the page to the bookshelf you're not doing yourself any favors!

You can be anybody you want. You can do anything you want. You can lead extraordinary lives within the pages of your mind. It's total, dizzying freedom, and utterly addictive.

I don't think writer's block is much of an issue for me. Knots are the way you figure out you need to go back and untangle something, and getting things right (like finally combing through a snare in one's hair) always feels good!
