The "Cooking the Books" podcast gave me the excuse to develop the recipe--here it is:
Where by "develop the recipe" I mean that I described the thing I was imagining to my householdmate Nora (a considerably more skilled baker), and she kept revising until it tasted right. There's a "water" version and an "air" version depending on how salty you want your saltcakes, and they keep fresh for weeks, suggesting that they were probably originally created for sea voyages. There's a further link at the podcast with recipes for holiday fish stew and fried apples and potatoes as well.

Sorry to answer belatedly--I missed the notification and just found the question now! I've written one more Tikanu drabble for my Patreon, and it's now reprinted in Imperfect Commentaries. I'm not specifically planning anything else, but expect that I'll keep doing the occasional piece in this setting--Tikanu is close to my heart, and the one certainty about mint is that it will always spread.

My next book after Deep Roots will be in a different setting--but I'm happy to write as many Aphra books as my publisher will buy! I love series like the Vorkosigan Saga that follow characters as they grow and change over years and decades, and have always thought of the Innsmouth Legacy along those lines.
Anyway, if you want to see more, tell Tor.com, and tell your friends to pick up hard copies of the existing books. :)

On it! I just can't do with fanfic to bridge the gaps. My spouse and I are digging this series and would love to see it go as far as you're interested
