Evil Monkey in Review: “Those Were the Days
I’ve finally, with Luis Rodrigues help, created a separate tag and drop-down option for all Evil Monkey posts. So you can , if you so desire. Let’s take a little trip down memory lane, shall we

Evil Monkey on the Writer “Growth Cycle
Another entry I’m posting as a refugee from the old blog. In this case, the context is messy because it’s in response to Jenn Reese publishing the Growth Cycle of a Writer, which no longer on the net. As she says, it doesn’t apply to every writer, so this post was not meant to castigate her for outlining her own course as a writer–what she’s saying is, of course, perfectly valid. (Even though she mixes stuff about career and stuff about the actual writing–which are two different animals that mus
The Stupidity of Writers
…as evidenced by , precipitated by the post set out below. And . Posting now just to archive it on Ecstatic Days.
Evil Monkey:
Wake up! Wake up!
Jeff:
What is it?!
Evil Monkey:
Look at this! Look at it. You ran out of questions, you dumb motherfucker!
Jeff:
I what? I what? Where? What the hell are you talking about? It’s only 7am, you sick bastard.
Evil Monkey:
You. Ran. Out. Of. Questions. Ha! He nailed you.
Jeff:
Gimmee that!
Evil Monkey:
Read it and weep! He’s got you
Monitter Experiment #1
Despite , I’m warming to . Not because I want to monitor anything on Twitter, but because it’s ripe for experimentation.

As I work on Booklife this afternoon, I will periodically check in and see if any of this stuff is within 10 miles of Warren Ellis on Twitter

Bogged Down in an Edit War in No Man’s Land
(A video of some truly messed up looking writers. At least, these all look like writer types to me. See anyone you recognize?)
So…no 60 in 60 restart this week, and probably not next week, either. I’m currently engaged in a glacial edit war with Booklife and, soon, Finch. I’m still dealing with the developmental edit for the former and then the copy edit for the latter. I feel like I’ve got one hand tied behind my back. I can’t start any new major projects until this other stuff is done. All I ca

I Think I Love Charles Tan and Gerry Alanguilan and Ilyn Florese-Alanguilan (and, er, Chickens)
So, I got a FedEx package today from Charles Tan, and in addition to other things I’ll blog about later, it has an attractive box with a picture of some chickens on it. Hmmm, say I. What could this possibly be?
What it turned out to be was a limited-limited edition boxed set of Gerry Alanguilan’s Elmer series of comic books, which you can read part of online, according to What is Elmer? Again, Gordon and his merry crew . It’s a great, finely
Class III Offense Against Reality: Precognition
I just did a . Kaku is the author of the very cool Physics of the Impossible, which ranks SF impossibilities into three “classes, class III being the most unbelievable. Even though the interview is brief, it’s one of my favorites just because a kind of wonderful enthusiasm shines through all of Kaku’s responses.
What’s most surprised you about the reaction to the book? Any specific reader feedback?
What surprised me the most was that
Sign of the Apocalyse: Monitter
OMFG. . I’m going to need monkeys to monitor the monkeys monitoring the monkeys that monitor the intertubes for me. Or, more seriously, this is part of the growing case for turning off and tuning out.
I typed in “ambergris and this came up in the last two minutes:
Good: Got Myrtle Beach or Ambergris Caye 4 place to chill during recession. Bad: Chill-Out is lasting way too long for my own good !

Podcastle Podcast of “Secret Life
’s which includes a section called “Mimic that’s a personal favorite of mine.
There have been several podcasts of my work lately. I am grateful for all of them, but it’s weird hearing this stuff in someone else’s voice. The person reading “Secret Life doesn’t klang–it seems a safe reading, most of it right, but can’t, for example, know that “violet sad soulful eyes is supposed to be sarcastic. A couple of others recently sound odd to my ear, but that’s
