Cheer Up, Sleepy Jean

I still have the picture in my mind, even though it's been probably more than 20 years since I was there: my grandparents' living room in Uxbridge, Ontario. They had this semi-detached century house, with glassed-in porches at the front and back. In the living room there were cupboards along half of the wall that attached to the neighbours' house. According to my mom, my grandmother was horrified when she first saw those cupboards, but she finally realized how great it was to have the extra s...

Some Fantastic Reviews for Idol Hands!

I am ALWAYS grateful for readers who take the time to review my book, whether it's on Amazon, Smashwords, ŷ, or any of the other places where people have bought the book, or on their own book review blog.

Lately I've been truly blessed with some reviews that left me speechless (very hard to do!) and truth be told a bit weepy (I cry at anything, I can't help it!). So thank you so much to Chick Lit Plus, Change the Word, and Book Drunkard!

You can read the reviews here:

Favourite Love Songs from a Valentine's Day Hater

I should probably be honest about this right from the start: I hate Valentine's Day (in case you couldn't guess from the title).

It has nothing to do with being bitter, or single and lonely, or single and loving it. I've been married nearly fifteen years and, much to my husband's dismay, I've always hated it. I've tried honest I have but I just can't wrap my head around spending a ton of money for the one day a year that I'm supposed to tell my husband (and kids, for that matter) that I...

Review: "River in the Sea" by Tina Boscha

Book Description:

When a German soldier's dog bolts in front of Leen's truck, in a fraction of a second, she must make a choice: brake hard, or hit the gas.

She floors it.

What happens next sets off a chain of events that pitches Leen, just 15, and her family against the German forces when they are most desperate and fierce. Leen tries to hold her family together, but despite her efforts, bit by bit everything falls apart.

And just when Leen experiences a horrific loss, she must make a...

A Message to All Boy Band Fans

Being a fan of an artist (or artists) who started out labelled as "teen idols" can be very isolating sometimes. Not everyone "gets it", and for some reason those who don't feel that it's okay to mock not only the artist, but the fans. You constantly feel the need to defend not only them, but yourself, as well. I've never really understood where the derision comes from. You don't see that kind of vitriol spewed at fans of any other music, but because a group is labelled "boy band" it...

Review: "Stories I Only Tell My Friends" by Rob Lowe

I know, I know: I said I was going to be promoting indie books, and this is most definitely NOT an indie book. I won't do this often, but a good book is a good book, and this? Is a good book.

I don't give 5* ratings very easily. There are a lot of books that I really like, but very few that I love. This, however, was one of those books.

I admit that I'm a sucker for biographies, and especially autobiographies/memoirs from Hollywood, but rarely do you read a book like this where you can...

"Stay Tuned" by Lauren Clark

I've been thinking of ways to spice up the blog part of the site, and one thought that I'd had was starting to do book reviews. In addition to writing, I also read voraciously, and I'd really like to support the indie author community of which I'm becoming a part. I'd mentioned that in a group for  and so I was approached by Lauren Clark to review her book, Stay Tuned.

Since Lauren sent me her book, I've thought more about the whole idea of reviewing, and decided that I...
