If you are a fan of the TV series or other adaptation and you want to learn more about the source material, there are many options depending on how much time you want to invest.

There are two complete English translations, one by WJF Jenner, and another by Anthony C. Yu. Yu's has more added material (a long introduction and lots of scholarly footnotes to explain historical and cultural context). Both of these are over 2,000 pages!

In addition, there are many abridgements, including the classic one by Arthur Waley and a recent one with a modern vibe by Julia Lovell.
