It depends on which aspect of English history you feel drawn to. Both will give you an excellent sense of the place, and stories that unwind over time. I think I've read all of Rutherfurds to date. I enjoyed New York the least, I didn't not like it, it just didn't unroll the picture well enough for me. I didn't become as invested. But perhaps that's because I'm British. The stories in Sarum, London and The Forest are as different as the places themselves. If you are more likely to visit London, or feel a connection, start there. If you love cathedrals and the history of the country, then begin with Sarum. Either way, enjoy the journey! (less)
