Just as in the garden of Eden, Eve is tempted by knowledge. In Lyra's case this is knowledge of love and the other adult emotions she is yet to experience. The tempter is Mary and the Fall is Lyra becoming aware of love and adult desire. The allegorical feeding of Will by Lyra again echoes the garden of Eden. This is all matched by the falling away of her innocence. Lyra goes from being an innocent child oblivious to the world around her, to a courageous young women with the ability to make a difficult moral decision about what window to leave open. The fact that she can't easily read the compass at the end of the series is also another sign that she has lost that spiritual purity or innocence. In its place she has been given the opportunity to actually learn how to use it, to gain knowledge through hard work and determination. In this way Pullman presents the Fall as a natural and good thing to happen, which is in stark contrast to the biblical version. He doesn't say it's easy but he does believe it's right.(less)

No. Phillip Pullman very cleverly includes a line near the end of the book which goes somewhere along the lines of,
'And even when Will was 60 years old, that is how he would still picture Lyra,'
This is pretty much concrete evidence that Phillip Pullman does not intend to reunite them even in the new trilogy of the 'Book of Dust'.
However, I know that some people are hoping for a epilogue in the final book, which reunites them in death before they walk through the window that they made together in the world of the death.
However, I don't believe Pullman will do this. I love the characters very much and I cried for days after the ending, but they were only about 13, 14 at the end and still have an entire life ahead of them. So though it is sad and we all wish they could have lived 'happily ever after', to answer your question, it is very very unlikely and I don't believe we will ever see a Will and Lyra reunite.(less)

I'd say that Lyra actually decide NOT to fall since she and Will capitulate to the Authority instead of continuing the rebellion and getting rid of the Church: /review/show...(less)

The republic on heaven is not a viable political option, but I don't think it is meant to be. If we all behave like a citizen of heaven should behave, then very soon our reality will resemble heaven.
2) way above my pay grade 3) I can only speak from my perspective, as a Christian. Christ teaches that we are in this world, but not of this world. Therefore we should be fully in touch with whatever problems our world is facing but also fully aware that we are called to leave the world a better place than we found it. I know that many Christians turn their face away from real world problems, but I disagree with that approach. 4) We can't change where we are. Well most of us, anyway. So all you can do is try to make your reality a better place.(less)
