Nell in particular is inspired by real-life hisâ€¦m´Ç°ù±ðThanks for this question! The main characters of the book â€� Charlotte, Nell, and Evie â€� are fictional. Nell in particular is inspired by real-life historical women who were part of Philadelphia's Black elite in the 19th century, and who were members of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society, and who were involved with Pennsylvania Hall. The three young women at the center of the novel also interact with a number of real-life historical figures in the story, mostly well-known abolitionists like James Purvis, Hetty Reckless, and Lucretia Mott.
