What is the ethnicity of the protagonist?

Becky BBB&S is a fantasy novel so there's no exact correlation to real word ethnicities. (That said, Jae and pretty much the whole cast are black/brown skinned.)

The original seed of the idea came from examining rape culture and the consequences of dehumanizing people - how we'll allow terrible things to happen to people because we don't really view them as *people*, and how that problem is systemic. The themes of oppression really grew from there - I wanted to write about characters trying to topple the whole system, not just defeat a single villain.(less)
