All I want to know is, do other readers think the governor was in on it, as alluded to by his chief of staff, or was that a ploy in an attempt to get off? Perhaps we'll find out in future books, which I'm reading in order.

It wouldn't make sense to send in Joe unless the Governor wanted something to happen. Even if Joe got killed which was likely, something would get stirred up.(less)

Bill Jenkins He killed them for money and the reason was they all knew about the coal gasification. But you're right, the reason for killing was weak. The company already had approval for what they were doing but I suppose the folks killed could easily have blown the whistle on the corruption, given that the board of the company included those approving the work.(less)
