The priest at Xiomara's church offers her some very wonderful guidance and empathy and her best friend follows their religion devoutly and is still able to be supportive of Xiomara and express her concern for her friend in a kind, loving way. Doubt is a normal process for teens who have been raised in a specific religion, no matter which religion and this book tells its readers that doubt is an okay and normal process to go through, but it's easier when they talk through it.

The trouble with Xiomara's mother is not her religion; it's how she treats her daughter and how she inflicts punishment. Would love to hear more of your thoughts. (less)
